Our sweet little Caribbean style home is a 1 minute walk to the exotic black sand beach, Playa Negra and a 5 minute walk to the charming town of Puerto Viejo. It is an original home, lived in by the locals for many years but recently renovated to bring it up to the standards of comfort and beauty you'll appreciate.
It is the perfect place for families and friends to make dinner and spend comfortable evenings together after a day at the beach.
Casita Azul is on the property of HIDDEN JUNGLE BEACH HOUSE, a small guest house in which I live, own and manage. Casita Azul is a private house with 2 bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with hot shower and lots of living space - a living room and comfortable front and back porches.
Words can't describe how charming this place is, take a look at the photos! Here at Casita Azul you'll have a comfortable and unique place to stay in the best of outdoor living. This little happy house is open, airy and bright. The view out of every window is trees, flowers and jungle greenery. There are lovely front and back yards for children to play, safely fenced in all around. Please note: this house is constructed in the authentic Caribbean style. It is simple and basic. There are no screens on the windows, you sleep with a mosquito net over the bed. The bathroom is on the back porch. The feeling is almost like living outdoors.
Note that even though we have two buildings on the property - the private Casita Azul and the guest house called Hidden Jungle Beach House - there is privacy between the two provided by nice thick palm trees and foliage.
1. One Bedroom has a double bed - for 2 people. (This bed has a special memory foam mattress topper - VERY COMFORTABLE!)
2. One bedroom has a single bed - for 1 person.
3. The living room has a sofa bed - for 2 people. And there is an air mattress if you have 1 more.
Please note that the living room offers no privacy for those extra people. The house is small and not sound proof from one room to the next.
Guests at Casita Azul will have access to:
1. Fully equipped private kitchen
2. Private bathroom with hot shower
3. Good Security provided by a well fenced yard, a good strong gate and two very friendly German Shepherd guard dogs.
4. Free WIFI

I am Lisa Valencia, the owner, manger and everything else here at Hidden Jungle Beach House. I live in the guest house on the back of this property. I'm a writer with a website telling you all about my experiences living in Costa Rica for seven years. I'll give you all the details on your transportation options from the airport, along with photos and instructions. You can even take a raft trip to get here! I can book your transportation and I also offer personal guide service. For more information see my website:
When you arrive I'll show you around. Then you'll have the place to yourself. But if you need anything or have any questions, I'm most always right nearby. I enjoy my guests and am happy to provide advice and suggestions to enhance their enjoyment of the area.
Location, location, location!!! We are one of the very few private homes located so close to the exotic black sand beach and the sweet little town of Puerto Viejo. We are right on the edge of the jungle, so the flowers, the birds and the jungle sounds all mix harmoniously with the ambiance of the ocean waves. We are just a few minutes from nice restaurants, live music and fun little shops yet we live in quiet tranquility. This is truly a place to relax your mind and leave your cares behind.
It is easy to get here. From the airport you can take a bus, a private shuttle, a rental car or you can even take a rafting trip! I'll give you all the details and book your transportation, if you like.
Local car rental is available but you don't need a car to access everything you could possibly want. We have bikes for rent. There are taxis everywhere. The public bus system is very good. And you can easily walk to dozens of attractions.
HI! I'm Lisa Valencia. I moved here from the USA in 2007 to start a new life. I have been learning Spanish and loving the lifestyle ever since. Three years ago I rented this property and started a guest house. It is called Hidden Jungle Beach House. Since then I have met wonderful people from all over the world staying at my place. In March 2014 I was able to buy the property, which includes the Casita Azul. I worked with my own hands and heart for 6 months to make this little house a beautiful and comfortable private home for vacationers who love nature and like to stay in a unique and quaint place. I am so happy to share it with you!
Lisa Valencia purchased this house in 2014
This cute little house is in the best location around. It is removed from the distractions of the town yet close enough to walk in for dinner and good live music. It is close enough to the beach that you can go jump in at any time and still spend time in the house reading, relaxing, writing or working on a project. The surroundings are tranquil but never boring. We see Blue Morpho butterflies and a zillion kinds of hummingbird every day. Sloth families our our neighbors. And the sound of the ocean puts us to sleep at night.
The house is all wood, warm pretty native Costa Rican wood. Some is new and some is the original wood from 25 years ago when the house was built. It gives such an inviting and homey feel. I love walking barefoot on these beautiful floors.
The big windows give you a feel of always being outdoors, when you eat, sleep, cook even shower you are enveloped in the arms of nature. And it is enchantingly pleasant to sit on the porch and watch the rain.
The property is fenced and secure. There is a grassy yard all around the house, safe for children to play. And our two dogs love kids. This is truly a perfect family home.
I stayed at Casita Azul for six nights. It has two bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen with a full fridge, dishes, and cooking "stove top." There is a beautiful shaded back porch with breakfast area and your own hammock. The bathroom/shower is super clean and you have warm/clean running water. The house is across the street from the beach and at night I would leave my window open fall asleep to the sound of the waves. The hostess, Lisa, is an artist. And it shows. There is LOVE oozing from every room in the home. The loving artsy touches, colorful décor, painted little flowers, etc. I had my own little hammock in the back yard where I saw a resident sloth and many different little bird. I loved that the home was not in the middle of the town, but yet within a few minutes walk from the bus stop, stores, restaurants, etc. You can't ask for a better location! The beach is literally "across the street" where the black, volcanic sand, blue waters, and dancing palm trees await you every morning! You can take the bus to many other beaches and two nearby national parks and a wild life refuge. I got around with the bus and sometimes taxis. The host, Lisa, also has bicycles for rent! By the way...to all my American friends; (I read some former comments), if you want all the bells and whistles then go stay at the Ritz Carlton for hundreds of Dollars per night (I don't know why you are coming to Costa Rica if you are stuck on all that "western" fanciness). However, if you want an authentic Costa Rican/ Caribbean experience in a safe, clean home in the middle of paradise then this is it! You can't ask for a better host than Lisa. She is amazing.
This was a great place to spend a week in Puerto Viejo! Open air cottage with plenty of room. Fans and bed netting made for a pleasant stay. Literally 100 yards across the road to the beach. Nice small town with a friendly atmosphere. Good food and plenty of places to explore. Lisa and Christian were great host and tour guides. We plan on returning and will certainly stay here if possible!
Owner was very nice. Not luxurious but has all the essentials.
Lisa couldn't have been a better host! Her cottage that we rented was perfect (~50m from the beach and in great condition), and she did a wonderful job helping us coordinate our travel between San Jose and Puerto Viejo. Also, upon arrival, she provided us maps of the local area and tons of great recommendations for cool things to do in the area. I highly recommend both Puerto Viejo as a town, and Lisa's Casita Azul as a place to stay. My wife and I definitely plan on going back!
My sister and I stayed at the private cottage for a few days, and then I stayed a few more days in the boarding house in the back. The grounds are beautiful with lots of birds, flowers and the sound of the waves. We loved the cottage and it was perfect for the two of us. It was private and has a nice little porch in the front. It's the perfect size for 2-3 people. It is very cute and has hand painted designs throughout.
The boarding house is in the rear of the property where the host Lisa lives, and it is shared with the other boarders. It has a cute deck to hang out on where you can see lots of birds. The kitchen has everything you need. Lisa is very organized and even has maps in every room pointing out local attractions, restaurants and services. The property is only 2 minutes walking to the beach, and 5 minutes to the town. It is a perfect location and very quiet. Lisa also gives great recommendations for things to do locally and is very helpful and friendly.
We completely enjoyed our stay a Casita Azul. It was the perfect combination of short walking distance to beaches and stores and being on the edge of town so it was quiet at night. The little house allowed us to have a home away from home. It was comfortable, clean, gave us some privacy and had all the little comforts of home. We were so happy with the place we had hoped to rent it again for the last part of our holiday, but unfortunately it was not available. Lisa, was kind, informative and very responsive to any questions we had. Her website gave us great ideas on how to get to Puerto Viejo as well as a wonderful rafting excursion to get back to San Jose. I would highly recommend this method of getting to/from Puerto Viejo. Lisa was great in arranging tours for us and giving us information about how to get around, places to eat, shop and local attractions. If we are ever back in this part of Costa Rica we would stay here again.
Everything involving nature is available here, including canopy zip line tours and my favorite, horseback riding. I have a friend with beautiful horses - great for the experienced rider and for the first time rider as well. Ride in the jungle and on the beach, it is breath taking beautiful! And I will take you myself.
