While he was the organist and music director of Savannah’s Unitarian Church, which faces onto Troup Square, the Reverend John Pierpont Jr. wrote the beloved Christmas song Jingle Bells, copyrighted in 1857. In 1985, the City of Savannah placed a plaque in Troup Square to commemorate the song and its Savannah roots.

Built in 1885, our House is in a quiet residential neighborhood 50 yards from Troup Square. The two bedroom, two and a half bath property a is full 2 storey house. Fully renovated in 2014, there is ample free street parking—no meters to feed with quarters or $7.00 daily parking permits required. Within easy walking distance of restaurants (there is one within 100 yards), the Savannah riverfront, and all of the fun and fascination of pre-Civil War historic architecture, beautiful landscaping, antique shops, etc.

About Owner

We are a nearing-retirement age couple from the New York City area with backgrounds in fine arts and restoration, an appreciation for eccentricity, and a limited amount of patience for shoveling snow - so Savannah is perfect for us.

Owner purchased this house in 2007

Why Owner chose Beach Institute

When our son was clever enough to pass up the blustery New York area where he was born and enrolled in the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) in animation in 2004 we began thinking about escaping ourselves - at least for visits. He graduated in 2008 and has moved on to other challenges but we continue to be fascinated by Savannah, one of the most magical cities in the US.

What makes this house unique

For short and longer term visits we have stayed in quite a few Savannah hotels and a dozen or so furnished vacation rentals, so we have a good idea of what we want to find to make us comfortable, which has guided us in renovating and furnishing this house.

A few things not found in many Savannah rentals: • QUIET - a full house (not a condo) on a quiet residential street. Like many historic Savannah homes ours is semi-detached, but we have installed 6 inches of sound insulation between us and the adjacent neighbor. • PRIVATE SCREENED PORCH • In the Living Room area - A REALLY COMFORTABLE, QUEEN-SIZE PULLOUT SOFA-BED—one that you would actually be happy sleeping on!—custom manufactured by Rowe Furniture in North Carolina, with “Air Dream” innerspring air mattress system. • High-Definition Flat-Screen TVs (Living Room, Dining Room, and both upstairs Bedrooms) with FULL HIGH DEFINITION CABLE SERVICE. Living Room also has, DVR, DVD player, Surround Sound Sound System, Stereo CD player with iPod dock.

Beautiful house, great location

The house Oscar adorable, very nicely furnished and the kitchen is incredible. Much fancier than in a typical rental. Of course we never cooked since thre were so many amazing restaurants in Savannah. Free parking on the street, we never moved the car as we walked everywhere.

The only negative is the house is listed for 6 people. We had six but we were charged an additional cleaning fee because we had six people. That was odd to me, I was told it was for laundry but there weren’t enough towels for 6 women and no blankets for the couch bed. We found twin blankets that worked so it was fine but be aware if you book for 6.

Over all a great rental and I definitely recommend it. The back porch and patio is adorable too. Fun city for a girls weekend!

Such a charming home!

This was the perfect home to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family! Immaculate and very quaint! Walking distance to the center of it all!!! I would definitely stay here again!

Spotless and well kept

Wonderful time in the jingle bell house. The place is neat and clean and very well equipped. New appliances and laundry, they even supply laundry soap! Everything is walkable from here. We will be back!
