Kass and I are avid outdoorsman. We love spending as much time as possible at our cabin, and enjoy every moment. When not at our home or our cabin, you can find us fishing, hiking, camping, rafting across Colorado.
Owner/Manager purchased this Cabin in 2010
Why Owner/Manager chose Antonito
Mogote is a true jumping spot to all that Southern Colorado has to offer. It is far enough away from the hustle and bustle, that it begs for folks to come and relax. With ample activities close by throughout the year, there is always something to do. During the warm months, the cabin is a great spot to enjoy the plentiful sunshine while: -Fishing on miles and miles of both public and private water -Hiking/Backpacking on endless trails to remote areas of the South San Juan Wilderness -Hunting (Located in Colorado GMU 81, and 10 minutes from New Mexico unit 52) -Four Wheeling During the winter, there is no better place to stay in order to be close to: -Snowmobiling (Cumbres Pass is ~30 minutes away and Chama, New Mexico is about 45 minutes) -Cross County Skiing -Snow Shoeing
What makes this Cabin unique
The Conejos River offers miles and miles of public water from the cabin up toward Platoro Reservoir. There are also numerous private water locations which offer unique chances to catch some of the largest rainbow and brown trout in the state. Fly fishing is available at the cabin, by booking a guide only. Please let us know if you intend to fish at the property, so we can ensure availability and booking of your guide. There are also countless hunting opportunities nearby. Being only 10 minutes from the New Mexico border, this cabin offers a great location for both Colorado and New Mexico hunters. Other outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy beautiful cycling, hiking, backpacking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and more.

Just what we need after a day of volunteering for the Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. The cabin is sited close to a beautiful bend in the Conejos River and surrounded by mature trees. It is so quiet and the stars are so clear. The cabin itself is spacious, clean, and nicely decorated. This is our second stay at the cabin and we hope to stay again.
Thank you! We appreciate the kind words and love that you enjoyed your stay! Thanks again!

Joe, The first review was my wife. To clarify for you a little bit, your cabin was amazing. It was beautiful, spacious, amazing. Mosquitoes and fly's were not a problem at all for us. The river was fantastic. My kids said it was better than the ocean cause you didn't feel sandy and salty. Water was so clean and the sound was so soothing. The temperature was perfect. I actually got a kick out of playing horseshoe's. I think my wife's problem was for the first 2 days your inside and outside stereo worked fantastic. I would start the day out making pancakes and eggs and bacon for the grandkids and we would listen to the blues. Then we we go on to other styles of music throughout the day. Then the forest fires started and all of a sudden it was gone. First you enjoy something then it's gone, at no fault of yours. I appreciated your accessability, and kindness. Very accommodating. As I said on the phone, everybody said this was probably our best VRBO yet! Thanks, Sam Yoder
My boys and I had a wonderful time here for a full week. Cabin had everything we needed and we especially enjoyed the fire pit at night by the river watching the stars and making s’mores. Played the ring on a string game for hours on end (very addicting). Love this place and would definitely return.
I decided to book this cabin for our wedding anniversary. We were looking for something secluded and relaxing. The property is beautiful! The trees and the river make it magical. The cabin itself is very nice. Real logs, lots of room. The impressive part; this cabin is perfect for a fishing trip with the guys or family and equally perfect for a romantic get away with the wife. The kitchen is very well equipped. Our trip was amazing. The owners are absolutely wonderful. Very quick with responses to questions. Thank you guys for a wonderful stay!
This lovely cabin (made with BIG logs) is in a readily accessible yet secluded location, with the Conejos in the front yard. We were a little early to enjoy the fire pit (mid-20s at night - in fact the buckets we filled so we could douse the fire we never started were frozen solid when we left), but the wood burning stove was very effective at warming the cabin. Cabin is extremely well appointed - even included a knife sharpener - and the modest library is very angler focused. The fishing on the Conejos was excellent - we booked a guided day on the Abeyta Ranch (private water just upstream) through Land of Enchantment Guides and the public water (a littler hard to find at times this early - none of the federal campgrounds were open) was also good. The grocery store in Antonito (about four miles away) was very well stocked, and their prices were competitive with big city prices. We did struggle a bit with wifi - we showed as connected to wifi, but couldn't load a page, and cell service was better outside than in the cabin. But we were on vacation with family, and connecting with them was way more important than connecting with the outside world.
If you're looking for a place to get away from it all, and especially if you're a fisher-person, you couldn't find a nicer place.
Fly Fishing at the property (catch and release, barbless hooks only) - available only with booking of a private guide. Due to sharing access with numerous parties, no fishing outside of being with a guide is allowed.
Additional information about rental rates
Fly Fishing on the property can be arranged by hiring a local guide (catch and release - barbless hooks) - as the neighbors and I have an agreement in place to lease the water. If you are interested in fishing and want to book a guide, please let me know. Otherwise, there is no fishing access on the property. Thank you!
