With stunning, ever-changing views of perennial gardens and woodlands, this contemporary home is a serene zen influenced sanctuary located in a rural town in the 5 College area of W. Mass. Take advantage of the cultural, academic and social scenes and then return “home” to enjoy the comforts, recreation and beauty of my home. Nestled in a clearing in the woods off the main road, the house is extremely private and secluded, the grounds are beautiful and relaxing.
Our large, contemporary, home is a great place for family reunions, intimate gatherings or a romantic getaway. The spacious home can easily accommodate eight or more people yet is cozy and comfortable for just two. The kitchen features a professional gas stove, and lots of counters for food prep and entertaining. The spacious living-dining room has a modern wood stove, comfortable furniture and is fairly “child safe”. Huge thermal windows bring the outside in, making the interior bright and airy. The elevated main floor optimizes the views of the surrounding gardens and woods.
Four large bedrooms include a king size bed in the master bedroom and queen-size beds in the upstairs and finished basement rooms. The ground floor features an entertainment area with video, audio, piano and assorted instruments. There is even a pool table, as well as ping-pong. Comfortable couches encourage conversation and can double as beds if you have a large group.
The hot tub on the back deck has a view of the Japanese Torii garden and a Koi pond. Enjoy the natural sounds of the small waterfall that flows into the pond. Walk in the acres of woods that surround the house. The deck is a great place to eat and entertain.
There are many places to hike, bike, kayak, snowshoe and cross-country ski nearby. Located just 20 minutes from Amherst, 30 minutes from Greenfield and Northampton, and about an hour and a half from Bradley Airport. Nearby interstate highways and Rt 2 will get you to Boston and Albany within 2 hours.
I'm sure you will enjoy Evergreen!
John's home was amazing! Everyone loved the place. Our dogs loved the backyard. The hot tub, grill, and the garden were all wonderful to have for a relaxing Labor Day weekend. The house has more than enough to space to fit our group of 8. The smart TV was great to binge watch tv and there is wifi to keep everyone entertained. John was great to work with. Answered all of our questions and was very responsive. I would love to come back again.
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful property. The home was very comfortable with plenty of space and easily accommodated the 5 of us. The gardens and koi pond in the back were gorgeous. We enjoyed the privacy but still felt close to stores, restaurants, activities, etc. If you are looking for a relaxed and tranquil place to stay, this is it. I hope to stay here again next year.
My children and nieces grew up visiting their grandparents' home in Shutesbury, so this was the perfect place for their own children to all get together and even to relive some of their parents' experiences - riding with the same riding teacher, going to the same Lake Wyola beach, visiting the Village Coop and the Cushman Market, going to the same playgrounds, and of course enjoying the family fun at Evergreen - ping pong, frisbee, ring toss, monopoly, etc. There was enough room so that we didn't feel crowded, and yet we were all together in one place instead of being spread out in motels!
While we all had a great time, it was definitely "family" stuff, lots of running around and noise....and I would have appreciated more "quiet time" to enjoy the magical gardens and paths, walk the maze in silence, and meditate next to the pond. However, family reunions are not occasions for solitude and contemplation, and we would definitely want to come again. I am just mentioning that it would be a delightful place for a different sort of gathering as well.
I was lucky enough to meet the owner and have a chance to walk through the gardens with him and discuss the plants and paths - and lucky too to be able to tell him how much I enjoyed the beauty of his place.
This was one of the most beautiful homes we have ever stayed in. We don't stay in hotels anymore because VRBO offers so much more "house" for the price and this was a perfect example of it. We had use of the whole house including the gourmet kitchen, the back deck, hot tub (under the stars), the garage, and all the amenities in the area. House was beautifully kept and maintained, beds were super comfortable, and the host was very thorough in his instructions and responsive. We had the best time!
