This is Heavenly Hana!!!
Sitting on the lani and don't want to leave. Very comfortable and well appointed. All of the food trucks were quite a surprise. We had stocked up on groceries but it would have been just as easy to eat out. The pantry here is very well stocked and we loved eating on the lani. Plenty of spices and great pans and knives to choose from. Beds were comfy.. Felt very at home wish we could have stayed longer now that the sun is out. Aloha and mahalo!
When we first arrived, we were amazed how spacious the house was. Walking into the front room with an open concept and plenty of beautiful wood decor made this home a perfect place to experience Hana. The bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and clean, and the place was well stocked. We met Gale and Michelle, and they couldn't have been nicer. We even had an ocean view, which was not mentioned on HomeAway. The front lanai was pleasant; we enjoyed the breezes and views from there. We even met the couple renting the house in front of ours. They live and came from the dry side of Maui in Kihei, to have a few days away and had been coming here annually for at least 15 plus years. We ate at a wonderful restaurant called Thai food by Pranee. They were just about to close for the day, but still served us anyway, especially since we were visiting. We sure appreciated their hospitality. Hana was beautiful, historic, and very quiet, certainly off the beaten path from the usual tourist spots. We walked up to Fagan's Cross and saw the spectacular view from there. We visited the lava flows and black sand beach. We toured that side of Maui and enjoyed the homes, beaches, and vegetation. We were glad we spent three days in this very special place. Thank you, Gale and Michelle, for opening your home to us. Mahalo, Tony and Teresa
All the comforts of home right where we wanted to be in Hana
We spent two nights in Hana in early March with our family of 6 (2 parents and 4 children 10 and under). This place was clean and had everything we hoped for for our family, plus a view of the ocean. We met locals (transplants) at church the day we left who were interested in potential places to put family when they came to visit. They knew Michele and Gale, and we were able to wholeheartedly recommend their place.
Michele took the time to give us great recommendations for things to do with our boys. She was the type of person I would have liked to chat with over dinner to learn more about their life in Hana. Having the owner upstairs was not an issue, although we worried that our children were being too loud (the same worry we had at the resort on the other side of the island). There was a creek or two at night, which we wouldn't have worried about if we weren't worried about kids getting out of bed.
Some things I didn't notice in the listing that I was happily surprised by: There was a pack-and-play which worked great for our youngest child. There is a pull-out bed in the couch in the great room. We used one of the blow-up mattresses for another child. The grill is propane, which made me wish I would have brought steaks from Costco. (The pantry had steak seasoning and the fridge had A-1, in addition to lots of other stuff.) There is a bookshelf with games and DVDs. The hose-off is conveniently by the parking place. There were beach toys and boogie boards (plus those that we left behind). With 4 kids, I worry about too many breakables at places we stay, and this place had very few, like the pictures show.
The road to Hana was not as difficult as I had expected. We took it slowly, and the kids didn't get car sick. The locals gave us an appreciative honk when we let them pass. But our 3-year-old kept whining for a swimming pool while we were in Hana, so we wished we would have done Hana first, prior to the resort. I was glad that we had a full day to take in that side of island, rather than driving in and out in the same day.
Amazing stay in Hana
The pictures of this place don’t do it justice. It is a beautifully maintained, open, airy space. The owners have thought of everything—instructions to the house, WiFi password, a map of points of interest. Dale stopped by our first night to see if we had any questions or concerns. We met Michelle the next day and she was equally helpful and nice.
We loved the place and it really made visiting the sites along the way to Hana amazing. I would stay here again.
Central location enhanced our Hana experience
We loved our stay in Hana mostly due to our great accommodations. This house was so welcoming, clean and perfectly appointed with beautiful views of Hana Bay. The 6 of us, including our 2 year old grandson, enjoyed the boogie boards, beach toys and chairs provided. We hiked along the shoreline in both directions to many beaches, and up the mountain and walked to restaurants and food trucks when we weren’t cooking up a storm in the gourmet kitchen. Truly perfect vacation spot.
Outstanding, relaxing, clean, comfy rental!
This rental was clean, spacious, high-end and comfortable. It was truly a relaxing home-away-from-home. It is not on the beach, but does have a decent view of the ocean, over the top of a couple other properties. Still... this is a great place to crash and re-fuel.
We loved the area and beaches are only a few minutes away. Host's provided beach chairs (portable), umbrella, body boards, cooler, etc. There was even fresh coffee beans, a grinder and a coffee pot! Everything you need to cook and entertain as well.
Beds were comfy, bathrooms & showers were awesome(soap and shampoo included and high-end-- lots of towels), and furniture was comfy and inviting (lots of blankets and pillows). 5 adults slept well, though the 5th one had to use a couch(was a pull out, but not too comfy, so slept on the couch). I'm not a fan of saying it sleeps 6 when there are only 2 beds, but we knew that, and so do you... still worth the price to stay.
Hosts were super friendly, quiet and accommodating. We will do our best to get back to this property again. Love, love love it!
Note on local fair: The one restaurant (at the hotel) was not that great at all. We recommend cooking your own, or hitting the food trucks. Hana Fresh was the best food stand, though busy. The store was handy, but pricey (milk: $11.50 / gallon!!). Still... expected this for this remote area that is so relaxing and beautiful!
Make the hike to the red sand beach... worth the entire trip to Maui!
Thanks, Gale and Michelle! We really enjoyed your hospitality!
