About the property

You will love our spacious contemporary home with traditional Mexican architectural touches, open for monthly rentals in the up-and-coming El Centenario district. The location affords you the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing and serene environment while at the same time being only 15 minutes from downtown La Paz and in easy reach of some of the most stunning beaches in Baja. Situated on a gradual incline less than a mile from the Bay of La Paz, the single-story house provides expansive views of the bay and the city of La Paz on the opposite shore. The nearest sandy-white beaches with their turquoise waters are less than 20 minutes away by car.

The unique architectural design of the house blends organically with the desert environment due to its rustic building materials. The sliding doors of all the main rooms open to create an integrated indoor/outdoor living space. The house has been constructed with many natural materials and furnished with locally crafted furniture. Our intent was to create a true retreat from every-day busy living.

The main house contains a spacious great room opening up to an outdoor living space shaded by a traditional pergola made of palo de arco wood pieces and Mexican pine logs. The great room and patio provide panoramic views of the sea and the nighttime city lights of La Paz. There is a large guest bedroom with two beds and a bathroom on the north side of the house. The master bedroom and bathroom are housed in a separate structure connected by an outer corridor. Both bedrooms have sliding glass walls that open to separate patio decks overlooking the desert and the view of La Paz Bay. The rooms are all bathed in natural light as much as possible.

Beautifully landscaped with cactus and native plants from the local mountains you cannot help but feel close to the natural ecosystem as cardinals, Mexican Bluejays and a variety of hummingbirds color your mornings.

We offer a tranquil living space at a very affordable price because we encourage you to treat it like your own home – this is a sanctuary to get away from the day-to-day bustle. About Bev Durvin

This was my winter home, a lovely warm retreat where I hope to spend some of my retirement years. Now I'm serving in the Peace Corps, embracing the changes and challenges. I'm originally from New York but have made my permanent home in San Francisco, but I love both places. Having had the travel bug, I'm taking the opportunity to explore different places around the world but I do intend to return to beautiful La Paz.

Friends of mine purchased parcels of land here and I always wanted to have a get-away place in another country so I bought one too, and built this custom-designed house. We love it here!

3 Thefts & Distance to Centre La Paz

The home is lovely but very isolated for us from the main part of town. I takes about 30 minutes each way to get to town.

We, unfortunately experienced three break-ins due to faulty locks and a main entrance door which was an interior door and not meant to be a secure outdoor installation. The third theft was an unexpected car remote unlocking of the car. The thieves would come by practically every day for just such an opportunity.

In addition, the security alarm was not connected to any security company or property manager.

But to give the owner credit, she is working on making the house more secure.

Owner's Response: The timing of the Stangl’s stay turned out to be unfortunate because in the months leading up to their arrival, a record number of break-ins in the neighborhood had taken place (such break-ins have since declined sharply). We were transparent with them about the situation and gave them sufficient notice to safeguard their valuables and secure the premises at all times. Despite that, regrettably, they experienced the home burglaries, the first ever in our house. The house does have working locks and an alarm system, in accordance to other properties in the area. The specifications about the property were clear and accurate, including the approximate distance to central La Paz. While I greatly empathized with their loss, I realized that it was better for them to relocate to a different property rather than trying to make special accommodations because I did not want to turn my house into a fortress. I offered them a free month to allow a search for a different house. In addition, I have taken steps to add more motion-detector lights around the structures and installing a safe for valuables.

Tranquility is!

We stayed in this beautifully designed house early May for my 40th birthday. The tranquility is unmatched, and if you love bird life, you'll be amazed how many species make the arid Saguaro landscape their home. The living room opens up into a spacious outdoor patio for relaxing and soaking in the view of the bay in the distance. Charming La Paz and the Malecón is a 20 minute drive, and the world class beach of Balandra about 40 minutes. The adjacent casita was perfect for friends that visited during our stay. We’ll be back for sure.
