Overview

About the property

2 bedroom 2 bath condo with fireplace; screened porch overlooking golf course

Welcome to the fully furnished 'Little Retreat at Big Canoe!' Two bedrooms and two baths will comfortably accommodate 4 adults. Both beds are king size and have memory foam mattress toppers. The sofa in the living room could sleep a 5th guest if necessary.

Enjoy cooking in the updated, well-equipped kitchen (new stainless steel KitchenAid appliances installed July 2017!!) or outside on the grill in the Common Area. Build a fire in the stacked stone fireplace or relax on the large screened porch and watch golfers (or deer or turkey!) on the fairway of the 4th hole of the Creek Trail of the golf course.

'Little Retreat' is located near core Big Canoe amenities such as the Fitness Center, Swim Club, Tennis Center, golf course, and marina, and not far from the Wildcat Recreation Area. If you are here for a wedding or other group event, the Chapel, The Chimneys venue, the Canoe Lodge venue, as well as Sconti Clubhouse, are all also nearby. (Big Canoe Amenities are available to all guests for a nominal fee.)

The Fitness Center is a multi-million dollar facility and has state-of-the-art cardiovascular and strength training equipment, exercise classes, an indoor saline lap pool, hot tub and sauna, indoor tennis and racquetball/squash courts.

Located next to the Fitness Center, the Swim Club offers outdoor swimming (early May to the end of September) in either the pool or Disharoon Lake. Try sliding down the outflow of the lake on the ever popular Rock Slide or swim out to the large inflatable dock and slides in the middle of the lake! Paddleboats, paddleboards, kayaks and canoes are also available for rent. There is even a sandy beach for picnics, volleyball and sunbathing! For refreshment during those long, fun days in the sun there is a snack bar - with live music on the weekends. (Be sure to ask us about the "hidden" hiking trail that leads to Disharoon Lake from our condo complex!)

Located on Lake Sconti, The Clubhouse houses the Golf Pro Shop and locker rooms on the lower level, and the beautiful lodge-style reception and dining facilities on the upper level. The Mountains Grille for fine dining, and the Black Bear Pub and open air Veranda for casual dining, are open to all Big Canoe guests for lunch or dinner. Don't miss the delicious Friday night Seafood Buffet from 5:00 - 8:00pm with live entertainment from 6:00 - 9:00pm; and the Sunday brunch from 10:00am - 3:00pm! The attire is country club casual and dining requires no membership. Credit and debit cards (and of course cash!) are accepted. For a quick breakfast or lunch before hitting the golf course, tennis courts or hiking trails, try Duffer's Takeout at the golf cart barn.

Head to The Marina on Lake Petit for your fishing license and equipment, electric pontoon and fishing boat rentals, as well as canoe, kayak and paddleboard rentals. Below the Lake Petit dam is Playfield Park for casual outdoor sports, picnics, or just hanging out. The dam is also the location of the annual 4th of July fireworks display and Playfield Park is a prime location for viewing!

Near the North Gate is the Wildcat Pool and Recreation Area which includes an outdoor pool, kiddie pool, playground equipment, basketball courts, bocce ball court, soccer and baseball fields. There are also paved walking trails around this area.

But no matter where you are - or what season it is - the best amenity in Big Canoe is the natural beauty! Enjoy driving the mountain roads, hiking the trails, swimming, boating, fishing, golf or tennis - or just plain ole relaxing. There is just no other place quite like Big Canoe! Here you'll find all of the amenities of a vacation resort, yet the casualness and friendliness of a hometown community!

And Little Retreat is not "just a rental," it's our little slice of heaven too, so as owners we are always available by phone, text, or email for any questions you may have! We look forward to having you as our guests!

About Kelli Groves

We live in Huntsville, Alabama and came to Big Canoe for the first time in the spring of 2014. We immediately fell in love with Big Canoe and knew we had to have a place here! We bought this condo and began making some renovations. We hope you will be able to relax and recharge at 'Little Retreat at Big Canoe' like we do! Charley and Kelli Groves

Kelli Groves purchased this condo in 2014

Why Kelli Groves chose Big Canoe

We bought this condo because of it's location to all of the amenities in Big Canoe. We also loved the fact that we could park right outside our unit and walk straight in without having to go up or down stairs!

What makes this condo unique

The things we like the best about our unit are the fireplace, the screened porch, and the updated kitchen and master bath! In the colder months the fireplace keeps the whole place toasty so we can turn the heat way down! And in the warmer months we can leave the windows and doors open to the screened porch and not even turn on the air conditioning! Aaahh... that mountain air! Preparing meals is a joy using the new high-end appliances and we have all kinds of dishes, cookware, and bar ware.

Clean, Cozy & Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

My family & I really enjoyed this Condo. The location is perfect for a weekend get-away. The beds are SUPER comfy, the place is extremely clean, the kitchen is stocked with everything that you'd need, and the screened in porch offers a fantastic place to relax and take in nature. Plus, we couldn't of been happier working with Kelli (the owner). Big Canoe is just gorgeous for hiking, swimming, boating, etc. Two thumbs up for sure!

Very well equipped and nicely appointed.

My husband and I were in Big Canoe to close on our new home so unfortunately did not have a lot of time to spend at the condo. But what time we did have was very comfortable.

Map

Car: necessary

Big Canoe is an 8000+ acre gated resort community in the mountains of north Georgia. With 7 mountains, 3 lakes, hiking trails, waterfalls, a golf course, a fitness center with state-of-the-art workout equipment, an indoor saltwater pool, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a marina with boat rentals, an interdenominational chapel, a clubhouse with fine dining and an open air veranda and pub for casual dining, there is something for everyone!

Big Canoe is a little over an hour north of Atlanta and all of its amenities and attractions. It also is a short distance from shops and restaurants in Marble Hill and Jasper and about 30 minutes from outlet shopping and restaurants in Dawsonville and Canton. Other areas of interest within an hour drive are Amicalola Falls, Cumming, Ellijay, Blue Ridge, Dahlonega.

The historic Tate House is about a 20 minute drive southwest of Big Canoe. The 19,000 square foot home was built of bright pink "Etowah" marble by Colonel Steve Tate from 1920-1921 and is also locally known as the "Pink Marble Mansion." The home and grounds are now a popular venue for weddings and special events.

Gibbs Gardens is a must-see and is located about 8 miles south of Big Canoe. The 292 acre property is the personal estate of Jim Gibbs who bought and began designing and developing it in 1980. His vision was to create one of the largest residential estate gardens in the nation. It is now composed of 16 different types of gardens, 24 ponds, 32 bridge crossings and 19 waterfalls. And don't miss the beautiful Seasons Gift Shop and the yummy Arbor Café!

About a 30 minute drive north is the quaint town of Ellijay, known as the "Gateway to the Appalachians" and home of the Georgia Apple Festival each October. Visiting its eclectic little gift shops, antique stores, and restaurants makes another great day trip!

Once you've hiked all of the trails, discovered all of the waterfalls, and experienced all of the natural beauty in Big Canoe (impossible!), you might want to make the 30 minute trip northeast to Amicalola Falls State Park! Its hiking trails and spectacular scenery make it one of Georgia's most popular state parks. And at 729 feet, Amicalola Falls is the tallest cascading waterfall in the Southeast.
