About Mimma Ferrando

We have been an expatriate family for many years, Franco working for EXXON CHEMICALS and Mimma busy teaching Italian at Bruxelles University and growing a family of three children. We chose Tuscany to retire, thanks to a sum of 'plus' factors such as weather, landscape and culture. We bought a group of rural ruins in Chianti and year after year we brought them back to life, shaping the wild land around. Franco took good care of the abandoned olive groves and now twenty years later, we sell worldwide our extra virgin olive oil. I take care of guests who are coming back year after year and am busy with our culinary program 'Tutti a Tavola' (Everybody to the table) or 'The Tuscan Mammas' (as many American fans have started calling us).

Many family members and friends made the same choice and all enjoy warm friendship and camaraderie.

Mimma Ferrando purchased this farmhouse in 1991

Why Mimma Ferrando chose Radda In Chianti

Because Chianti is the pearl of the charming sophisticated 'rustic' gentle place called Tuscany.

What makes this farmhouse unique

I can't really put into words the emotions I have experienced here at Muricciaglia: I felt peace at once, I came home.

Peaceful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We had a perfect week and the peace and quiet was just what we needed after a week's sightseeing in Venice and Florence in 40C+ heat. The heatwave continued so the beautiful pool with fantastic views was put to good use, as was eating outside on the terrace. It was too hot to explore the walking trails, but we thoroughly enjoyed trips to Castellina and Radda, both very nearby and with good restaurants and shops. A day trip to Siena was also easily accessible.

Ovile was well equipped and comfortable; everything you need for a holiday cottage.

Thank you Mimma and Franco.

Just got back from a week at this stunning property. Accommodation is immaculate and we'll equipped. The private terrace has bueatiful views and it is in a tranquil setting. Mimma and Franco were wonderful hosts. The pool area is a perfect place to cool off. We saw deer, boar and fireflies. Look forward to returning to this wonderful house in an amazing location.

A Gem in Chianti

  • 5 of 5

I just spent two weeks in Tuscany with my husband and another couple, and for the second half of the trip we stayed in the lovely Ovile cottage at Muricciaglia. Our goal for this vacation was to spend most days hiking on trails through the Tuscan countryside, with dinner usually at some restaurant in a nearby village. Muricciaglia was a beautiful and serene home base for hikes in the areas surrounding Radda. Ovile is an ancient stone structure which has been renovated with all of the modern comforts, including an excellent kitchen - if you want to cook and eat in some night to take advantage of the great local produce - and also quite good wifi. The cottage is situated on a hillside above Muricciaglia's olive groves, with a tranquil patio overlooking the partly forested and partly cultivated hills on the other side of a small valley. You don't actually have to get in your car to explore the countryside, because from your doorstep you have access to a system of local trails which are very well-marked and which can take you to the nearby town of Castellina for a morning cappuccino (a 45 minute walk) or even to Radda.

The physical beauty of the setting is enhanced by the warmth and graciousness of the owners of Muricciaglia, Mimma and Franco. During the time we were there, in September, Franco could often be found on his tractor, working and overseeing operations and I think preparing for the olive and grape harvests. But he would readily jump down whenever this guest wandered by, to give suggestions for walks and trails. Mimma was also attentive to our interests and needs, and since we'd said we might like to rent bicycles, brought us information on how to do so. And she showed the utmost care and kindness when I had the bad luck to find myself sick in a foreign country. I'd picked up some sort of travellers' bug before I arrived at Muricciaglia, and I panicked when it wasn't gone in a few days. Mimma brought me a selection of teas to help calm my stomach, and then took me to her personal doctor to make sure that everything was OK!

I highly recommend Muricciaglia to anyone who is looking for adventures in the Chianti region, or who just wants to enjoy a peaceful stay in a stunning part of the world.

Mimma and Franco were the perfect hosts. Ovile at Muricciaglia is wonderful and the beautiful and peaceful tuscan countryside views are stunning. The guest house is perfect and the kitchen well equipped so you can cook a Tuscan dinner and enjoy it on the beautiful terrace. A perfect place to stay and relax but still an easy drive to the cities of Florence and Siena. The beautiful and charming medieval towns of Castellina and Radda are just a few minutes drive away. It is perfectly located in the heart of the Chianti region with its wonderful wine and food. The lovely walking trails on the property are a wonderful way to start your morning and if you're lucky you'll have the company of their very friendly dog Dhabi to accompany you! I have always loved my stays at Ovile and find it hard to leave such a beautiful and tranquil place where you can simply forget about everything and just relax and restore yourself. You can do as much or as little as you like but you will thoroughly enjoy and never forget this beautiful little piece of tuscan heaven hosted by Mimma and Franco. Thank you!

Tuscan Charm!!

  • 5 of 5

A last minute trip to Tuscany turned into one of my most memorable vacations.

Ovile di Muricciaglia was beautiful and Mimma was charming. A lovely estate; quiet and relaxing but only a short drive to all major cities and towns for sightseeing.

A place you can certainly feel very comfortable in; your home away from home while vacationing.

Thank you Mimma!!

Rustic charm in Tuscany.

  • 5 of 5

The rustic charm of Cottage Ovile is immediently evident as soon as you enter.

Upon our arrival, Mimma greeted us with warmth and she helped to make our stay in Cottage Ovile memorable.

The accommodation is simple, clean and comfortable and Cottage Ovile was an oasis to which to return from a day of sightseeing in this lovely region of Tuscany.

The estate is to be explored to see all the wildlife and the plethora of wild flowers.

All the main towns and cities are within easy reach and the two local villages of Castellini and Radda are really well worth exploring.

We spent a relaxing and superb holiday at Cottage Ovile and feel confident that we could recommend this property to friends.
