About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps 6

Welcome to “Rell” --- a top-level condominium duplex situated high up on the slopes of Ram’s Horn Mountain at prestigious Windcliff Estates. Its street address on “St. Moritz Trail” has a definite Alpine ring to it. And, well it should. You need only to step inside to understand why. A western wall of windows arrayed before you frames the majesty of the Rocky Mountains in Rocky Mountain National Park. It is a stunning portrayal of forests, tundra, and rock ascending upon rock to ever-greater heights --- all capped by a Colorado sky so blue as to defy description. Step out onto the western deck for a breath of the freshest air imaginable as you endeavor to comprehend the majesty of your surroundings. Bar stools at a bar railing compliment the traditional outdoor lounge seating and the attendant gas grill for those moments when only a meal out-of-doors will do. Tall trees hover nearby as a perch for song birds, owls, magpies, and jays. Hawks soar upon a summer thermal. And, it is here that you will discover the majesty of a Colorado nighttime sky when it is pierced with a million pricks of light. Far down in the valley the lights of the YMCA’s International Conference Center lend their twinkle like those of an Alpine village.

The living room ceiling at “Rell” is anchored aloft by heavy, kiva-like beams. The fireplace is a worthy setting to rekindle tales of the trails, waterfalls, snowfields, and glaciers that have been part of your day in the National Park. Leather seats embrace one in a special way at this hour of the evening. The “Rell” kitchen is the real thing with an elegant granite bar overlooking all culinary proceedings --- be they assembling a picnic for a day in the Park or a holiday feast. Natural lighting spills down from massive clerestory windows high overhead. The dining room, with its unparalleled views to the Front Range of the Rockies, serves both as an elegant site for meals with the Jazz tableware provided --- and as a gaming room for the games and puzzles close at hand.

Many galleries and museums could envy the variety and quality of the Native American art and artifacts arrayed at “Rell.” Limited edition prints by Robert Redbird and Bev Doolittle adorn the walls. A massive “dream catcher” awaits your biggest dreams and a chance to help fulfill them. Indian weavings, baskets, rugs, pottery, and stunning bronze sculptures chronicle the culture and character of our earliest citizens. Their footprints left marks upon the landscape of “Windcliff” in an earlier time. Today at “Rell” these characterizations of their colorful cultures leave tracks upon our hearts.

The ensuite master bedroom awakens with you every morning to the thrill of a Colorado sunrise kissing the mountain peaks with its earliest light. Nature is spread before you in full array. A handsome portrait of Samson --- reckoned to be the grandest elk ever to roam these parts --- dominates the room. A large-screen TV is at the ready --- just in case. An exterior doorway leads out to the wrap-around deck and stairs down to a garden of trees and rocks below. The guest room enjoys the same magnificent views, deck access, and a bathroom to call its own.

Many they are who have encountered the Rocky Mountain charms of “Rell,” and who have inscribed an inkling of their experience in the Guest Book.

Although Estes Park [Rocky Mountain National Park’s gateway community] is only 15 minutes distant by car, you will always feel securely tucked away at “Rell” --- separated from the “hustle and bustle” of people and their traffic. The Windcliff enclave embracing the “Rell” residence is a private residential community comprising 260 acres on the sunny western slopes of Ram’s Horn Mountain. It is served by a single entrance to private roads with no through streets or heavy traffic. It is truly a world apart!

perfect for a family of 4 vacationing and attending family reunion at the ymca of the rockies

  • 5 of 5

My mom's family planned a reunion at the YMCA of the Rockies and we live in southern CA and wanted to make it to the reunion but also have a great family vacation. Additionally, my husband and I like to have a separate room to stay up past the kids bedtime. Rell at the Windcliff was PERFECT for both of our goals. We had great accommodations with a fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, breathtaking mountain views, and our own little retreat just 10 minutes from the YMCA lodge. We were able to be close enough to join in all the activities but we weren't stuck eating all the meals at the YMCA. Luckily, we found some great restaurants south of Estes Park in the 2 mile stretch before the YMCA.

We did come a day early and explored Estes Park (but it was REALLY busy, complete with traffic jams - not what we wanted in a mountain vacation - we have enough of that at home!). It is such a beautiful town and we loved the river walk but we were happy to be up on the mountain away from the hubbub. Rell is way up on the mountain away from the town but close enough that when we needed a few groceries we could run to the market outside of town quickly and not have to get stuck in town. PLUS, we were so close to RMNP that after the reunion ended we spent 2 additional days on Trail Ridge Road and and hiking to Mills Lake.

Rell had TV's for our kids to watch in the morning hours, great coffee makers (both a regular drip coffee maker and a Keurig for the occasional decaf), a washer and dryer for that one load of laundry that needed to be done before our trip home, games for us to play with our kids in some down time, fans to keep us comfortable, good showers, complete kitchen for making muffins and a dinner at the cabin. We had everything we needed there.

One thing that was a little difficult (which I am sure they will fix): A few roller shades were broken so the rooms were lighter than we wanted. The days are longer in CO and the kids had a bit of a hard time going to sleep when it was lighter out. The shades would have been perfect to keep it dark had they been working. But, everything else was awesome. Great neighbors downstairs and everyone we encountered at Windcliff was excellent. We totally recommend Rell for other families and would go back if we ever do travel to Estes Park again!
