Enjoy sweeping views over the Caribbean east to Norman Island and beyond at ‘Alice by the Sea’, a modern, well appointed four bedroom/four bath pool villa overlooking Friis Bay in the Coral Bay area of St John. Just a few minutes drive to either the town of Coral Bay (shopping/dining) or several beautiful national park beaches and trails and 15 minutes from St John’s world renown North Shore beaches, Alice by the Sea’s location provides convenient access to all of what makes St John special. Please call 914-523-1390 to confirm availability!

The paved driveway leads to custom tiled threshold. The front door opens to the Great Room which includes a dining area with seating for 8, a comfortable living room and a separate media area (dish tv/roku/bose sound dock) as well as a brand new gourmet kitchen with custom Cuban encaustic tile floor, granite counters, island seating area, wine fridge, stainless steel appliances, Wolf gas cooktop and Wolf steam convection oven (perfect for preparing fresh fish!). The well appointed ‘cooks kitchen’ will ensure that you have the right tool for the job should you decide to ‘eat in’ rather than enjoy some of the wonderful island restaurants. Feel like dining ‘al fresco’? The outdoor kitchen located on the pool deck has everything you need for a perfect meal—large BeefEater BBQ, side burner, sink, fridge and icemaker—plus an out door dining and lounge area for entertaining. Outside of the great room is a large deck overlooking the pool and the ocean with comfortable seating – a great place for a cocktail or morning coffee. The usually steady ocean breezes mean mosquitos are rarely a problem here. If you are lucky enough to be here on a Sunday ‘in season’ take a short stroll down to Miss Lucy’s for their famous jazz brunch or if you are here during a full moon, their full moon party—or simply stay on the deck and listen to the music from there!

All four equal size bedrooms have AC, en-suite baths, private decks with seating areas and large closets with ample shelving and hanging space for your belongings. Two upper bedrooms are accessed via closed breezeways from either side of the great room. making it a perfect spot for parents with younger children. The two lower, pool level rooms are accessed via outdoor stairways from each breezeway. Bedrooms are arranged with a queen suite both upstairs and down and two XL twin (convertible to king) suites (one up and one down) – the bedroom set up insures privacy for all. Each room has a unique feel.

Broadband WiFi and a landline ensure you can stay connected if you need to. Games for all ages are available– including St John’s own version of monopoly (St Johnopoly!) for evenings or should rain be in the forecast. Access to the pool is gated for family safety.

The north side ‘edible garden’ contains macadamia nut, avocado, red papaya, pineapple, starfruit, cherry, and citrus trees—bananas and soursop are also on the property –lovely flowering plants and palms line the drive.

Enjoy your days with hiking and snorkeling the many national park trails and reefs, boating or exploring some of the many colonial ruins, take in a morning yoga class at nearby Concordia Eco-resort (or arrange for a class at ‘home’ ) or, simply lie by the pool! No matter what your choice, Alice by the Sea will relax and rejuvenate!

Best rental we've ever stayed at!

  • 5 of 5

We are avid HomeAway users and this is by far the best rental we've stayed at. Thank you to Lori and her team for making our vacation spectacular.

Heading to St. John was a big trip for our family, and we were beyond thrilled when we arrived at Alice by the Sea. Every room is beautiful and outfitted with everything you need. The kitchen was well stocked (even Tupperware for leftovers and packing lunch for the beach!). We appreciated the beach bags, pool floats, beach chairs and coolers. They have thought of it all.

The home is off the beaten path, just the way we like it. It takes 30 mins to get from Cruz Bay and only 10 mins from Coral Bay. We learned grocery shopping is cheaper in Cruz Bay. But thoroughly enjoyed all the restaurants near the house. The beaches in St. John are STUNNING. However, if you are looking to walk to the beach... this house or St. John is probably not for you.

There is no air conditioning in the main living area, only in the bedrooms. Which was fine for us but it was a little warm during the month of August and may be a problem for others.

We loved the garden on the side of the house and will always remember picking pineapples and eating them with breakfast. This is truly an amazing house where awesome memories are made. We highly recommend it.

Perfect Villa!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week spent at Alice by the Sea. The house is decorated wonderfully and was very well kept and very clean! The view from the balcony was perfect and we spent as much time as we could there. We had two families (3 kids) who all fell in love with the house! It was obvious the owner went through great expense to make sure we had all the necessary amenities including beach bags, beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, etc.

We loved exploring all of St. John and the wonderful beaches and snorkeling the island has to offer. We hope to return and booking Alice by the Sea will be a must!!

Beautifully laid out and furnished, Alice by the Sea is a fabulous getaway. The owner has thought out every last detail needed for a relaxed stay. Gorgeous views from your own private balcony, thoughtful amenities (even beach totes!), even an outdoor kitchen by the pool. We will be back.

Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5

There is not much I can add to all the glowing reviews but I agree with them all! Our group of 4 couples have traveled a lot together and agree Alice is one of the nicest homes we have ever rented.

The attention to the smallest detail shows the love poured into this home. We enjoyed the gorgeous view, the comfy beds and beautiful decor. Lori could not have been easier to work with in booking the house and making recommendations for us. It was a wonderful trip❤️

Hope to make it back soon!

Incredible Winter Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

“Alice by the Sea,” on St. John Island, (USVI) was everything we hoped for as a winter hideaway from Minnesota’s brutal winter weather. From January 7-14 we lolled in the sun on at the little pool, snorkeled various beaches on St. John island, languished in the 80 degree weather, and were mesmerized by the ocean view.

“Alice by the Sea” is impeccable. Classy and spacious, with small personal touches (beach toys, coolers and chairs for the beach, games, ice packs, floats for the pool) that made is feel like home. As we traveled about and explored the island, it was great knowing we had such a wonderful home to return to and get recharged for the next day's adventures.

The house’s gardener was friendly and knowledgeable and the owner was very helpful and responsive to our questions.

The house was large enough to comfortably handle 7 adults and 2 small children with a large workable kitchen. We were surprised at how much everyone enjoyed lounging next to the small pool.

I would recommend “Alice by the Sea” to anyone. Only warning: it takes a effort to get there: flight to St. Thomas, ferry to St. John, then navigating the island's narrow, steep, and winding roads to the other side. But once you enter the place you’ll agree the effort was well worth it.

Perfect Honeymoon Escape!

  • 5 of 5

My new husband and I just came back from the most amazing week at Alice-by-the-sea. It is a week we will remember for the rest of our lives as a truly spectacular way to start our marriage! The house was so private and made us feel like we had the entire island to ourselves when we were up on the deck looking out over the bay. We loved waking up to watch the sunrise every morning, swimming in the pool, relaxing on the deck, grilling dinner under the stars, reading our books out on the porch, etc. etc. etc.

We hardly ever wanted to leave the house, and had to tear ourselves away to go explore the island! We loved Coral Bay so much that we never even went back over to Cruz Bay the entire week we were there. We enjoyed casual meals at Concordia, Skinny Legs, and Aqua Bistro, and also had fun picking out groceries as the Callabash Market to cook dinner at home many nights, as well. Our favorite beaches and hikes were probably the ones out of Lameshur Bay and Leminster Bay, but we truly loved everywhere we went and explored! Lori has thought of everything - the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, and we loved throwing the beach bag and towels and beach chairs (all provided!) into the back of our jeep when we headed out the door for an adventure.

I couldn't possibly recommend Alice more, whether it's for a romantic getaway or an entire family looking for a fun adventure. I'm tempted to tell people NOT to go just so that it will be more readily available for us to come back more easily! :) But I couldn't do that and risk not sharing this beautiful place with more people. It's perfect! We definitely look forward to coming back in the future to celebrate our anniversary and to bring family with us!
