Overview

About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bath cottage...living room with stone fireplace & modern kitchen

The Hobbit House was created to provide everything you need for the perfect stay in the spectacular mountains of western North Carolina. Privacy yet close to everything? Check. Spa bathroom? Check. The most comfortable bed this side of the Mississippi? Check. Sophisticated yet relaxed? Check.

Welcome to your cozy mountain hide-away. Just a two minute drive or an easy walk to the Cashiers crossroads, the Hobbit House is nestled within an acre of mountain laurel, holly and tall pines....a Cashiers cabin with in-town seclusion, for you and yours to enjoy.

The Hobbit House has been completely redone with new stainless kitchen appliances and new bathroom...and redecorated into a luxurious, warm and peaceful retreat for two - or three, if you have a dog. Get away from everything - yet have all the luxuries of home: DirecTV, HD web-services (Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Roku etc.), brand new washer and dryer, phone and Wi-Fi. A new, petite but modern kitchen and flagstone floored bath with a fabulous new subway-tiled walk-in shower...both on the first floor.. are just off the open living area with a wood burning, stone fireplace.

On cooler days, there is warm air flowing at the flick of a switch plus the fireplace, and an upstairs super efficient standing floor air conditioning unit that keeps the cottage cool on the rare, warmer than normal day. Usually the stainless steel ceiling fans do the trick!

Follow the mountain laurel railing upstairs to the light filled loft bedroom, where a wonderful night's sleep awaits under the rafters. The gel-topped, memory foam, king size bed will soothe you to sleep in the cool mountain air after a day of hiking, waterfalls or shopping.

The Hobbit House is a cabin with a difference. The dark furniture, granny bedspreads, and someone else’s knick-knacks and odd pieces went somewhere else. Everything in The Hobbit House has been chosen specifically for this cottage. While poplar bark siding protects the exterior, inside you’ll find a light, modern, designer-mountain feel with a whitewashed shiplap interior, artisan details, the latest energy-efficient appliances and cool art. For your skin, there are also new, top quality Matteo linen sheets and fluffy towels...you won't find another place like it. except our big sister house. You'll find a link below to the Mountain House if you're looking for something larger (6B-4-1/2B) but with the same easy style.

In the morning, have your coffee on the Sunday porch swing next to the mountain laurel rails that line the deck. Listen to the silence of the rain forest, broken only by the Carolina birds singing their tunes. Promise yourself that today, you WILL make time for reading. Ok, and maybe a nap on that same plush swing-bed. Later, enjoy a glass of wine in the same spot or take it with you walking the secluded roads and trails just outside your door. Then, if you wish, cook dinner in the fully-equipped kitchen. Even better, slip away to one of Cashier's many wonderful restaurants that are just minutes away. Welcome to a slice of heaven!

About Donna H Paulson

I first traveled to the Highlands/Cashiers Plateau as host of 'Great Country Inns' for The Learning Channel, and after traveling all over the world for work...this was the place that stopped me in my tracks. The weather in the summer is so incredible for those of us used to scorching 90+ temps...balmy 75 degree days, but so cool at night you can light a fire. Also lovely in the fall and spring....cozy in the winter...it was where we always wanted to own a home. Now we do and love sharing it with guests. We hope you plan a visit to enjoy the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Warning: you may never want to leave!

Why Donna H Paulson chose Smoky Mountains

Who doesn't love the idea of a cozy little bark covered cottage in the woods? This hideaway is just perfect for two people, snuggled into the mountain laurel, with walking trails right outside the door, plus restaurants, shopping and everything you need just 2 minutes away. The modern convenience is amazing, the rustic charm undeniable.

What makes this cabin unique

You're super close to Cashiers...seriously, the two of you could walk there. Yet you're in the middle of a beautiful green forest of old rhododendrons and pine, right outside your door. You can hike, bike, shop, golf, eat out, fly fish...or just relax. It's all just minutes away.

Perfect cozy getaway for two!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage better than expected! Listing was accurate but so much better in person! The cottage was cozy and well decorated. The bathroom was nicely renovated. We cooked breakfast and enjoyed the intimate quarters of the kitchen. The cottage was nicely tucked away feeling very private. The porch swing was perfect for morning coffee and reading. The bed was divine! Highly recommend!!

Absolutely Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Hobbit House was absolutely perfect. The cabin was not far from town but still very private. When we arrived, everything was clean and cozy. The tiny kitchen is perfect for cooking dinner for two (they also have a grill outside). The loft upstairs has the comfiest king size bed with amazing linen sheets. Our favorite part was snuggling up in front of the fire. This cabin has everything you need to spend a romantic weekend away with the one you love the most. Thanks Donna!

Forest Fairy Tale

  • 5 of 5

Our weekend at the Hobbit House was absolutely perfect! The meticulously cared for property is tucked away amidst rhododendron and mountain laurel, we were delighted by the many amenities. We were greeted by a lovely bottle of wine from Donna which we enjoyed by the fire snuggled up in plush blankets and pillows. It rained a lot during our stay which only enhanced the coziness, the sound on the roof was heavenly. All of the kitchen tools needed to cook a few simple meals were available. The loft didn't disappoint, the luxurious linens and fabulous mattress are dreamy! As much as we love to explore new places, we plan to make Hobbit House an annual destination because we can't imagine finding a more well appointed getaway.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I last minute decided to get away, and Donna could not have been more accommodating!

The cabin is precious and so lovely. I am very particular about rental properties, and the Hobbit House was extremely clean and inviting--we didn't feel like we were in someone else's house. The bed has linen sheets that were luxurious, and there were little things thought of like a high-end body wash in the shower--my kind of rental. It snowed over a foot while we were there, and that did not present a challenge, as we had plenty of firewood and wine ;) We really loved our getaway, and cannot thank Donna enough for being so gracious!

Owner's Response: So glad you had a good time! I know what you mean about being particular regarding where you stay. I'm the same way, and that helped us design the Hobbit House(and the Mountain House) to cater to discerning guests, who care very much about how a property is put together. As they say, it's ALL in the details. And it's really rewarding when someone notices...thanks so much!
