I have owned the Cambridge property for around forty years. During that time I have taught at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, run a successful software company, studied and taught yoga around the world and been the proud dad of my two sons.
I spend the winter months in Cambridge and the warm summers Maine Lake.
I chose this property for it's beauty, it historic location and its propinquity Fresh Pond with its peaceful natural beauty and the culturally rich offerings of Harvard Square.
I love the house's design. I am told that the design was originally created by its first occupant, an emissary from France to the USA. I also delight in its location and its expansive and private back yard and decks.
Victor was very accomodating and helpful. The apartment was clean, organized, warm and well stocked. Sheets, bedding and towels were clean and shower was stocked with fresh soap and shampoo. Although the house is a bit "natural" with some overgrown shrubs and grounds, the apartment was nothing but great with blackout shades on all windows and ample storage for clothes. I will definitely rent this place again.
We were incredibly disappointed with our stay. It ruined our trip and caused a lot of problems for us. First, there's no privacy, the apartment is just attached to the family home, the walls are paper thin, and there is a door leading straight into their house so you can hear everything - coming up and down the stairs, playing the piano, discussing their day... It was very uncomfortable and we felt as though we couldn't even have a conversation because every word would be overhead. Plus, my husband and I are on vacation, we would like a little privacy!
In addition, they are doing renovations on the main house which required the use of power tools all day! We couldn't even hear ourselves across the room and it interrupted the movies we tried watching; we were TRYING to relax! Then, we ended up not having power in the bathroom or living room for the majority of the week due to the construction work! The property manager was well aware of the fact that my husband walks with a cane and was in the shower when the power went out. He almost fell trying to maneuver his way through the pitch black room. This is a HUGE problem as he could have seriously hurt himself.
The yard and path leading to the stairs of our unit was completely unsafe! It was obstructed by a hose which was also covered in leaves. I tripped on it and tried to move it but it goes across the entire yard! Plus, the stairs were also covered in wet, slippery, leaves which made it even more difficult and dangerous for my husband. The apartment itself was incredibly dusty, I didn't even want to put my things down. The knives in the kitchen were rusty so I wouldn't even use them on my food.
We left a day early. We literally could not stay there anymore because we had NO power to take showers or get ready or anything!!!!! The owner kept knocking on our door checking on the power which is even more disruptive. This was the least relaxing vacation we've ever had. When we approached him about it in person, he said the power would be taken care of but it wasn't. Also, the Wi-Fi is so slow that I had to end up using a lot of data on my phone! I planned on having Wi-Fi and was one of the reasons I chose this property.
I am so upset, this place RUINED our trip! I will not be staying there again. I don't think he should be allowed to rent out a place that is under construction without disclosing that! I feel the property was completely misrepresented and I did not get what I paid for.
We spent 5 days in Boston and the property was very central to getting out and using public transportation. We had our entry and were able to come and go as we pleased. It was perfect size for 2 adults and 2 children.
The apartment was in just the right location for where we visited. Although small, it was cozy and clean. It was the perfect size for two people and we loved that there was parking. We would stay here again.
We enjoyed our stay in Victor's apartment. The apartment had everything we needed to enjoy our trip to Boston.
The porch was great to have and made the living space so much bigger. We ate dinner out there every night and was a nice place for my husband & I to get some time away from the kids. We even enjoyed an amazing lightning display from there one night.
We drove to the Alewife Station each morning to ride the T into the city. It gets very busy there, so I would try and avoid morning and evening rush hour, if at all possible.
The apartment is centrally located and a great location for visiting Boston and the surrounding areas.
Victor was easily accessible via e-mail and our stay went smoothly. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
I was visiting Boston with my 17 year old as part of a college visit / vacation trip. The location in Cambridge was perfect and in a charming neighborhood. A 2 min walk to buses to Harvard square whence one can get anywhere via the T. The property was as described - very clean, no surprises and the deck was an added bonus. Victor and family were very welcoming and helpful. Perfect for two people. Excellent experience overall.
