The acquisition of this mill, which dates from the 16th century and was erected by the Counts of Hanau Lichtenberg, was an act of emotional response 20 years ago, despite its dilapidated state at the time. The restoration has been a long adventure, difficult but very beautiful all the same (the “mill” part with the machinery of the time has not yet been restored). Our aim was to find a place of peace and quiet, amidst the green and undulating countryside, without any immediate neighbours but still sufficiently close to a small town with all the shops we needed, schools, railway station, etc. This has enabled us to bring our family life and professional career together in harmony. Our four sons, now young adults, have all chosen to pursue their professional careers and private lives far from Alsace, and that is why we are so pleased now to welcome groups of friends or families who, over a weekend or on a longer holiday, continue to keep this place alive, a place which, throughout its long history, has always been a place of meetings, encounters, festivities, and simply the joy of living!
