The property is just lush and clean. The neighbors....just cows....
Leslea purchased this Villa in 2006
Why Leslea chose Kurtistown
You will be surprised at the spacious, luxury, private accommodations for such a reasonable cost. The location is quite immediate to Akaka Falls, Hilo and the volcano. We loved the spa tub, overhead shower and double sinks after a long day of hiking and playing. Two full size beds, full closets, a partial kitchen and dining area made our stay very easy and comfortable. All organic produce grown on the property, teas, coffee, fresh massive papaya and homemade blueberry scones were an added delight.
What makes this Villa unique
The location is ideal for seeing everything on the east side of the island, including volcano national park, lava viewing sites, black sand beach, and the waterfalls. In summary, we would highly recommend staying here; you are unlikely to find similar accommodations in the area, especially at this price.

So charming- great space- amazing food
Leslea was fantastic and we really loved her place as a base to explore Volcanoes National Park and Hilo. Beds were great and the tub was fantastic! What really stole the show was her breakfasts though! She put so much thought into each one and so so yummy!! Thank you Leslea for making our trip!
felt like checking in to a Hyatt
we totally enjoyed our stay at majestic Volcano Villas. Everything was literally perfect with the suite. The attention to detail was absolutely amazing. Leslea has thought of everything.
It was amazing to wake up and look out the garden doors at Mt Manau Kea and see the peak and the observatory. The grounds of the property complete with all the animals were beautiful.
Leslea's breakfasts were over the top complete with fresh eggs from her laying hens and orange juice from her orchard.
If we're ever back in the area we will definitely repeat!
Thank you so much Joseph for your lovely review! We take pride in what we do and to hear that our guests have had a great experience is so wonderful! You are welcome anytime! Mahalo! Leslea
Better than a 5 star hotel!
We stayed at three accommodations on the Big Island and this was the best and most economical place of all three! I selected this place predominantly for the favorable price, but this exceeded our expectations in every way possible:
- Leslea is so welcoming! Not only is she a great host, but a great person to get to know.
- The villa itself is very comfortable, spacious, and clean!
- Leslea has 2 friendly dogs, sheep, chickens, fruit trees, garden, etc. This is heaven for animal lovers!
- This is a true B&B in the sense that you can a fresh cooked delicious breakfast! Leslea is an amazing chef and it's evident she cooks with soul!
- You will hear chickens/roosters in the morning! Coming from LA/NY/Germany, this was refreshing so we loved this.
I can't say enough great things about Leslea's home! Highly recommend this and you will NOT regret staying here during your time in Big Island!
You folks were a delight! Thank you so much! Please visit again! Mahalo and Thank you . I don't know how to do the round thing that is smiling or frowning...etc...although I do have a huge smile on my face! Thanks again!
Best Place Ever
I booked this as i surprise short break for my husband for our anniversary, i have to say mainly because of the price to start with as we were on a budget. But this place surpassed everything i thought we would get. It is amazing and turned into our favourite vacation rental ever. To start with its super easy to find and a great location, then you get there and meet Leslea and you just feel like you are meeting family, she is a wonderful person and perfect host. The the 'cabin' as they call it is the most beautiful, huge bungalow next to their house with a lovely lanai and views across there massive grounds and mountains. Everything looks new and its beautifully decorated with everything you could possibly need and more. The bathroom was my favourite place, mainly because it has a jacuzzi bath!! Its huge too (big enough for my husband to do yoga in!!). And it is oh so quiet which is exactly what we needed!! Then there is the breakfast, how i miss those. Freshly squeezed juice, fruit 'starter', then a different hot entree everyday...omlettes, pancakes, eggs and rice. It was better than any restaurant for sure. I just dont know what else you would find at ANY price, never mind at this price. I would stay there again every time without hesitation. Close to all the lava, national parks, hot pools, hilo. Cant wait to see Leslea again soon, hopefully in England!!
Thank you so much Lucy! I really enjoyed meeting you! thank you for inspiring me in so many ways! I will see you two again, I am sure! Travel safe...Leslea
Perfect place from which to explore the south and east parts of the Big Island.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. If you are looking for a beautiful, peaceful location close to Volcanos National Park, Hilo, and the southern slope of Mauna Loa in general, then this is the place for you.
The property covers 5 acres on a quiet rural road. The villa is about 950 square feet, completely separate from the main house, and equipped with a kitchen, dining area, bedroom/sitting room, and large washroom. The washroom has a nice walk in shower, a jacuzzi tub, and a 2 sink vanity. There is plenty of closet space. There are 2 sliding glass doors which open onto a lanai which is where you will likely have your breakfast daily. There is also a BBQ for the use of guests.
Our host, Leslea, cooked wonderful breakfasts each day, which were preceded with fresh fruit, and accompanied by fresh fruit juice. The eggs were provided by her own chickens and much of the fruit was picked from trees on the property....these meals carried us all through the day to dinner time!
We found the beds comfortable, the villa to be very well appointed, and in excellent condition. The elevation on the slope of the mountain ensured cooler night time temperatures which were very nice for sleeping.
Leslea herself is very warm, welcoming and enjoys meeting people from around the world. She is also happy to provide a wealth of information and insight about local attractions and activities.
We were very impressed overall, and will definitely return for another stay the next time we are on the Big Island.
Thanks again for your sincere hospitality - best regards from Germany!
