Overall we really enjoyed our stay, we were a bit caught off guard as the photos seemed to tell a little different story as we were expecting something a little closer to the water "off the banks of quartz creek" and a stand alone home (part of a larger complex of homes/rentals). With that said it wasn't a deal breaker and the hosts were accommodating and friendly. We would certainly come back as it was far enough out that you felt removed from any of the touristy hustle and bustle.
Thank you for sharing your home.
Pleasant, comfortable, quiet home away from home
We had a very pleasant experience while vacationing in Colorado and staying at this mountain home retreat. It was quiet, comfortable and close to where we needed to be. The Nicholls were exceptional hosts and we couldn't have asked for a better vacation spot. Keep up the good work! We enjoyed it immensely!
Great, Friendly, Clean Home away from Home
We have stayed at the Big Horn Guest Ranch for many years. We were delighted when the owners recently decided to open up their home for rent. It is a log home with many recent upgrades that make it a great gathering spot for families, but at the same time can be a romantic retreat for couples. We have stayed there with both our daughters and with another friend couple. Both times we were very comfortable and immensely enjoyed our stay. The Big Horn has been a family business for many years and it maintains that great down-home feel, and is nestled in one of the most beautiful places in Colorado. We always look forward to our next stay!
Dirtiest place I've ever stayed!
This house & pictures are misrepresented. Part of this house is actually the office, which is not accessible space; it looks like entire house is for rent in the picture provided. .the phone rings all through the night & can be heard throughout the house. The dust & dirt was terrible (I took pictures & contacted the owner, no response ...lamp shades & fixtures covered with dust, baseboards filthy, shelving to put food on..filthy (mouse turds on the bottom shelf), fridge was dirty, not small kid friendly...had to move all chemicals from under sinks...2nd level misrepresented...you either have to use stairs outside the house to access the 2nd floor, which do not have railings to protect kids, or inside climb up a small ladder about 15" wide & through a trap door to access the upstairs, which was very outdated & in bad shape...Many holes in the walls, stuff smeared on the walls, the mirror in upstairs bathroom cracked. There was only 1 little tiny bar of soap in the whole house to be used...had to buy soap at the store in town. I cleaned the shelves we put our food on, cleaned & wiped out the fridge, but not the freezer bottom part, which also was dirty. there was even dust on the kitchen towel & the towel holder it was on. Awful. The place is up for sale, so I guess the owner doesn't care too much about how it looks. The property manager got irritated with us, because we asked him to vacuum the upstairs (rugs still had visible stuff on them), we helped to move the chemicals from under the sinks & asked him to remove the 3 refrigerator shelves of leftover condiments other people had left in there. (the closest grocery store is 21 miles away, so we brought all the food we needed for 9 people for a week & needed all the fridge space). The fire extinguishers in laundry room, one said "recharge" on it, & both had not been serviced since 1999. When I told the property manager, all he said was "well, I'm not surprised!" ..no offer to provide fire extinguishers that worked. None of the remotes for the TV;s worked, even after I went the next day to the property manager's home & got new batteries. I would look elsewhere. The playground was nice though, & it had a nice horseshoe pit in the common area. The property manager even said to me, "if you don't like it here, I will gladly refund your money, but you won't be able to find anywhere else around here for _____ dollars a night". That's true, but where would we find a place for 9 people at a spur of the moment?
We find it very unfortunate that Becky M. chose to leave this review. We did everything possible to remedy her complaints. We have a very competent cleaning staff, but unfortunately a home with a gravel driveway during the dry summer days in the Colorado mountains will accumulate dust. The dust and cleanliness issues she complained about were quite obscure and we attempted to remedy them, but frankly after several attempts found them unreasonable.
As you can see from other reviews, we have never had complaints about the cleanliness of this house (or any other complaints). We offered Becky M. a refund if she chose to leave on both the first and 2nd days of her stay. She chose to remain and then sought a refund several days after her departure. She posted this review after learning we would not be refunding her stay. (Homeaway is investigating this)
We are sorry that our home did not meet the unrealistic demands of Becky M., but we would invite other potential guests to decide for yourselves if this house will serve as a great rental for family adventures in the Gunnison Country as we intended.

The house was clean and well stocked with everything one could need.during a stay away from home.
Propert is well maintained and sits in a tranquil setting. Our family had a wonderful time and entertained themselves outdoors at the horseshoe pit and with walks outdoors. Close to Pitkin where we enjoyed our travel up to Cumberland pass. Also saw a couple of bull moose on the Middle Quartz loop. Will definitely plan on staying again.
This home was a perfect place for our large group. The house was clean, the rooms, were spacious, and the beds were comfortable. The yard in front of the house was a great place for us to play yard games. Matt was very helpful. I would definitely stay here again.
