Come celebrate Acadia National Park's 100th Anniversary in 2016 at Kilkenny Cottage which is located 1/2 between Acadia National Park (Bar Harbor) and Schoodic Point (Also Acadia National Park).
Close to restaurants, boat excursions, hiking and exploring all that Downeast Maine has to offer.
Why the Owner Chose Hancock, ME, USA:
This property has historical significance as the Maine Central Railroad railbed was down 'Clark Road' and was active from 1870 - 1931 and ended at a Ferry Terminal on Hancock Point, just a short distance from the cottage. Steamers then took the passengers on to MDI (Mount Desert Island) Among the notables who would have traveled on 'our road' were Vanderbilt, Pulitzer, Morgan, Rockefeller, Ford, Presidents Taft, and Harrison. Vanderbilt had a private car that was so long (73') that it couldn't fit on the turn-table on Hancock Point, so it was backed down to Providence, R.I. to be turned around to come fetch him when he wanted to leave Bar Harbor! There is still a right-of-way over Clark Road by the Maine Central Railroad Company in our legal description. Even though the rail tracks are gone, you can enjoy walking the grassy trails right down to the water. Come visit and stay where history was made!
