Overview

About the property

In the island of Santo Antao, the most beautiful of the Cape Verde Islands, far from major international developments and tourist resorts a charming house for rent in a village of 350 inhabitants fishermen. Completely renovated in the local style, simple but comfortable, the house is located in the heart of the village with sea views from the lounge, terrace and upstairs bedrooms. Just behind the house, kindergarten and in the distance the mountains that raise their sharp peaks towards the sky. In the morning, the door remained open room on the wide reach us singing roosters and laughter of schoolchildren. The exquisite smell of roasted coffee by the women of the village opens the appetite. It is a pleasure to have breakfast in the dining room open onto the patio before going swimming on a deserted beach. On return, the lounge offers a welcome coolness. It comfortably settled there to read unless you prefer the deck chairs on the terrace from where one awaits the return of the fishermen.

Beautiful house in great environment

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the stay a lot. The house is splendid, very beautiful, practical and authentic. All you wish for is there. No warm showers but a nice bathroom.

For our small kids, the stairs were not safe (risk of falling down) but we could all sleep downstairs so that wasn't a problem.

Very nice village at the end of the world. Good to feel the Cabo Verde life as many live it everyday. Our 2year old son loved the cows, chickens, goats and pigs in the village. The beach is close and the walk from Ponta del Sol back to Cruzinha is amazing and incredibly beautiful.

All basics available in the 4 small shops in the village, except fresh fruit or vegetables and luxury stuff. Take this from Ribeira Grande on your way in. Very friendly people.

Pascoal and Lucinda are very friendly and helpfull, good communication in french. Ask Lucinda to cook for you, she is a great cook.

We really loved it. Ciao.

Owner's Response: Thank you for this comment that speaks so well of our house and its environment. We are aware that the stairs are difficult for young children and we are considering the possibility to install a ramp without compromising the aesthetics of the whole

The end of the world

  • 4 of 5

This is the end of the world. We arrived after a three hour alguir ride on a road that ranged from good to horrifying. During the first part it winds along a coast with mountains falling steep into the oceans, passing small villages set were it is possible to build houses. Halfway is Ribeira Grande, the nearest town, and then you start on an amazing beautiful valley with wild mountains, dotted with houses and sugar cane fields. In the middle of the valley, the alguir driver stopped and insisted that we should buy our necessities in a super market – we were told Cruzinha had no shops. The village in fact has a few shops, but they are very small and basic. We had locals knocking at our door many times to sell different food, but after two of them pushed on us 4 kg of frozen squid the first evening, we changed strategy and said no to most of it. Meat is hard to get, seafood easy. Lucinda, the caretakers` wife, made a couple of meals for us, and we had a delicious lobster dinner at the only restaurant, Sonafish, were the owner speaks German. A few guys in the village could speak English and helped us several times – you will get along much better with French. This is not a spot for big activities – linger around like the locals do and relax during the midday sun. We could sit for hours in the beautiful patio reading and writing. A 20 minutes walk from the village there is a very nice beach with black lava sand and a cave. During our visit the currents were big though, so we could not swim, just let them wash over us. The air temperature was fine, with plenty of the wind from the ocean making the air fresh. We saw no mosquitos. During daytime the flies could be a pain, but after dark they disappeared, so we made our dinners in the evenings. A highlight of the house is the division between the ground floor and the first floor with separate entrances and outside spots. This makes it possible with some privacy and we enjoyed it a lot, traveling as we did with three teenagers. One lowlight is that some of the door openings (without doors) are very low, making it impossible to avoid a few rock-hard meetings with our heads. The mattresses are not to soft either, and some of them a bit short (190 cm). The shower has no hot water, though this is not a big problem in the tropics. The water would not go through the pipe from the kitchen sink, and the caretaker did not succeed to fix it, so we had to do the dishwashing in a basin.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review as complete. Our house of the end of the world is indeed a traditional house where we wanted to keep two original doors, even if they are a bit low. About the problem of the kitchen sink, I contact the manager today to make it necessary.

Un séjour inoubliable

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

A Cruzinha,on y retournera !

  • 5 of 5

The house is located in a dead end where grow shrubs and flowering plants. It has a unique neighbor Ti-Paul, an old fisherman who was the gardener of the house until he lost sight. Many walks or hikes are possible. By paved road we reach Cha Igreja, village farmers or pushes sugarcane, citrus, banana. One can also take the path in fifteen minutes to the small beach of Boca de Mocho. It was there in the summer, the green turtles come to lay. One can also, depending on the season, admire a few miles, blue whales and humpback whales. It bathes it of course, especially in summer, as the beach of Ribeira Seca Cruzinha to walk half an hour. We can continue the way along the sea-to Ponta do Sol (11 km, 4 hours). A magical ride without much difficulty.
