This beautiful turn-of-the-century Victorian is the former rectory to a beautiful old church that is now an artist studio. It is secluded a top a hill on 3 1/2 acres and has soaring ceilings, period details, modern kitchen and 2 1/2 bathrooms. You can walk to a recreational river for kayaking or swimming and the house is stocked with books and games for family fun as well as wifi and a 52' smart TV and cable.
I am the manager of Studios at Artist Common, LLC. My first love is being a mother to 6 amazing kids and wife to a very kind and patient man. I started painting in 2011 and it has quickly become a career for me. Besides - it's finally something I can do that STAYS DONE - unlike driving kids, preparing meals, cleaning the house etc.
I love to paint with bright colors, bold strokes and high contrast. I use symbols and abstraction to create signature works that express my love for life and others.
property manager purchased this farmhouse in 2015
As mentioned above, I am an artist and mother of 6 who lives in the Boston area. I became involved with the Artist Common project thanks a Utah artist who was searching for an east coast art studio. The former rectory was an integral part of the property and is now being offered as a unique vacation rental. Thank you for helping make this project a success by renting. We especially appreciate the brides and grooms who choose to start their married lives here and also the families and groups who are regularly making memories at Artist Common.
Large, private family gathering, events, weddings, retreats etc. can take place just minutes from the Mass pike at Beautiful Artist Common. Where else can you rent a former church and sleep 22+ overnight guests and hold a private party without breaking the bank?
Clean place. Plenty of room to sleep 16.
Fire ditch. Right next to a beer store :)
Owner very helpful, available and answers questions in a record time.
Thank you Julia
We rented the Artist's Common for one week in order to accommodate all the members of our family for the wedding of our son. (The wedding was at the bride's house 20 mins away.) The house is early 1900s with some modern updates and lots of charm. It sleeps 12 adults, barely, and has adequate room for up to 6 children, 4 bunks between 2 rooms and 2 twin beds in one room. There were 4 couples, 2 singles and 2 nephews in our party, the youngest child was 15 yrs old. Our daughter and her husband had to sleep in the porch room just off my husband's and my room, which was fine. One young adult female had to sleep on a bunk bed in one room alone. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms all have ceiling fans. We found the house to be pleasantly cool despite lack of air-conditioning. The kitchen and laundry facilities are all up to date and functional. There are adequate plates, bowls, pans, utensils, and sitting room for a large crowd. The bathrooms are clean, albeit older, toilets and sinks all function well. As a party of 12, we never ran out of hot water! We loved the front porch and large living room where we spent most of our time when at the house. The yard surrounding the house is maintained, private, and mostly quiet. There is an out-of-commission church, also part of the property, which is situated in front of the house at a slight distance away, but it only added to the solitude of the property.
The owner, Julia, was very accommodating if we needed anything. She knew we were staying there because of the wedding, so she bought us an iron and ironing board in case we needed to touch up our wedding outfits...thanks so much Julia! The week we spent here was perfect for our family, the weather also perfect! I would love to have a reason to stay at this house again...maybe for the purpose of going on an artist's retreat next time!
Rented this home for graduation weekend..Perfect for family reunion or multiple families/friends. Sleeps 14 and there are blankets dishes etc for that many too! Setting is lovely rural mass. With walk along a river just steps away..would rent again!
12 adults and a few babies during our stay in Julia's home for a "friends weekend/reunion"- it was a perfect house for us- each "family" had their own room. The home was large and spacious and we had plenty of room to move around. The property itself is on top of a hill which made it feel like we were pretty secluded- there's a lot of yard space to roam around on a nice day. Julia had 12 plastic adirondak chairs on the porch which was great for us to just hang out and play lawn games during this mild winter weekend. Well stocked kitchen and comfortable beds and linens. The pictures are a good representation of what the house looks like. The best part of our experience (for me at least, since I booked the house) was Julia. She was very responsive, very accommodating, and a pleasure to work with. She went above and beyond. It's a great property- especially for a big group looking to just relax for the weekend (we didn't leave the property so I don't know what else is around there- doesn't seem like much). But a great time was had by all. Thanks Julia for a great weekend!
We had 10 Adults and 12 Kids in the house and it fit us great. Everyone loved it. Big kitchen and plenty of room to spread out and play board games, etc. We used the church basement and that too was excellent. Not a lot to do real close by in the winter but Amherst seems to be about 20 mins away. Plenty of parking and well stocked with towels, linens, plates, etc. Julia is very helpful on making it an easy check in and out process. We definitely recommend!
The property was more than we expected. The house is lovely and each room is distinctive. The kitchen and dining rooms are amply outfitted and the overall space is simply ideal for a large group, as we were, or a smaller group stay as well because the space is so cozy. The setting is beautiful and the outdoor space is grand. The owner was helpful in directing us towards a fantastic caterer to help us; and also, with questions about the house. Everything is there that makes for a perfect holiday. Our family and our guests cannot wait to return next year.
