Overview

About the property

Stately manor, five bedrooms, sleeps 10, two night minimum stay.

Built in 1799, the Retreat at Cool Spring is a recently restored historic manor house overlooking the Shenandoah River. Rich in history, the five bedroom luxury home sits on terraces overlooking the river, with five miles of paved trails for hiking directly in front of the house. A grand foyer, library, huge dining room and elegant living room are all a decorator's dream, and already have been the focus of many photographers' lenses. The house has five bedrooms and sleeps 10 with one king, two queens, one full, and two twin beds (twin beds are in the same room). The home is located in the heart of Virginia's wine country with over 10 vineyards within 10 miles. There are three waterfalls, two fishing ponds, the river and a beautiful stream, all within a five to ten minute walk.

Located 47 mi west of the Capitol Beltway, 21 mi west of Leesburg, Va, 17 mi east of Winchester, Va, near Rt 7. This is truly an exceptional home, surrounded by incredible peace and nature, and ever deserving of the name it was given in 1799... The Retreat.

About suzanne eblen

My name is Suzanne Eblen, I am the founder of The Old Lucketts Store in the tiny village of Lucketts, Virginia. My entire adult life has been dedicated to creating a welcoming place where customers can find the coolest vintage stuff, at great prices in a wonderful atmosphere. It has always been my dream to restore an incredible historic home, furnish it in the style of my store and let guests enjoy a place that is out of the ordinary... incredible, yet welcoming, historic, but not a museum. This home has answered all of those dreams. It is by far the most beautiful, special place I have ever encountered. The setting, the architecture... are beathtaking. It was slated to be a restaurant, a clubhouse, but those prospects by previous owners floundered, because this house deserves to be simply a beautiful home.

suzanne eblen purchased this estate in 2014

Why suzanne eblen chose Blue Ridge Shores

I have never seen a property that for me is a perfect ten. The setting, the history, the architecture and the location, all make this home one of the most special places I have ever encountered.

What makes this estate unique

Each room in this house has incredible attributes. From the ten foot ceilings to the 200 year old windows to the amazing views, to the unbelievable hand carved woodwork. This is a truly special place, that I am honored to have been the person to restore it.

Family is Everything

  • 5 of 5

Two related and close families shared a wonderful week together; the cousins had their own agenda and the parents theirs but we all ate and played together despite the different generations. The house, as all have said, was such a treat - the history, antiques, furnishings, etc. The nature we saw in the area added much to this experience; also a long hike on the Appalachian Trail was beautiful, but almost too challenging for the "older" people. Bike riding was special along the paths. A great week.

Thanks to Suzanne!!

Amazing house and location!

  • 5 of 5

The house served as the perfect setting for a girls' weekend away from the city. It is stunningly beautiful and comes with everything you would need. The proximity to the river was perfect for swimming and floating on hot days.

Kristen was supportive and helpful, answering my *many* questions. I can't say enough great things, and would highly recommend the Retreat!

No one wanted to leave. Lots to do in area. The house was well equipped cooking for 8 or more was no problem. Our dog loved the house hiking trails and walking paths right out front. Would definitely go back

Outstanding Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time and loved the Retreat. The house was perfect for our group and both the kitchen and patio provided great spots for entertainment.

We did notice a lot of small ants in the kitchen when we arrived that seemed to get worse over the weekend.

Absolutely gorgeous estate and great customer service!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about my stay at the Retreat was wonderful! Kristen was so responsive in answering my questions after I booked the Retreat for the weekend and recommended an amazing chef who cooked dinner for my group of ten women one night. The house is EVEN better than pictured - -absolutely stunning! It slept ten women more than comfortably (many of us had our own beds) and had so many places for us to all hang out and spend time together. We were all impressed with how well decorated the mansion is. I was also pleased with the quality of towels and toiletries that were provided. I highly recommend this property, and would stay here again with a large group.

Beyond Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

Every year my friends and I from grad school get together for a weekend to take a step back and breathe from all the “crazy” of life. We spent a wonderful weekend in this house and it allowed us to do just that, relax! We normally try to change location each year, but we all agree that this house will be our home one weekend a year.

We could not have asked for anything better!!!!
