About Duke Walsen

I visited Wears Valley from my home up north over ten years ago and fell in love with the area. I felt at home in the mountains and realized pretty quickly that I could have my dream life. I retired and relocated to Wears Valley and now own two cabins of my own that my wife and I would love to share with you..

Duke Walsen purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Duke Walsen chose East

This cabin has a wonderful, central location and charm. I loved the backyard where couples can bring their pet along on vacation and not have to worry about them and I loved the spacious front yard that creates privacy and a welcoming outdoor haven for anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of normal life.

What makes this cabin unique

A fenced yard in the back for your pet! The cabin is decorated beautifully and is cozy and close to Pigeon Forge. Love the real wood fireplace as well for romantic evenings.

Lovely, precious, cozy place!

Better than described!! We had a lovely, relaxing time at this uber-pet-friendly cabin. Thankfully, the AC worked perfectly because it was SO hot outside. Absolutely the only drawback is the terribly rocky dirt road to get to the cabin. No complaints otherwise!

Owner's Response: We are delighted you felt your pet was welcome at Bare Hugs! Thank you for coming! We are starting to encourage all our guests to be sure and follow the directions we have in our check in information since that is different than the GPS directions. When traveling in the mountains, it is very important to follow the owner's directions to get to a cabin - we have heard stories of people ending up on a different mountain! Our directions avoid the more difficult roads to get to our cabin but a GPS can't do that. Our normal road we use is not difficult.

Adorable, clean, convenient cabin!

  • 5 of 5

They thought of everything. We drove up in the dark and happily found the outdoor lights on! Upon entering, we were wooed with the country music playing. The cabin is even cuter than the pictures. We also loved that the owners left a snack bowl for the weary travelers and doggie biscuits for the dogs! We were grateful they also had paper towels, dish soap, hand soap, shower soap, flashlight/ night lights, playing cards and a stash of DVD's. It was nice and clean, very cozy, and comfy. We also loved driving up the hills in the neighborhood for some of the most beautiful views! We were thrilled at how quickly we could get to the heart of Pigeon Forge. Thank you!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed it! We love our own dogs and want our guests to feel their furry family members are also welcome at our cabin. The dog treats are one way to express that. My wife has worked hard to try to think of everything someone might want or need during their stay so I give her credit for the "extras". One of the best things is the convenient location - we are about 5-8 minutes to Pigeon Forge, grocery shopping, dining out so you don't feel like you are making a trip just to get somewhere. Hope to have you back soon!

Great place to stay.

We loved the cabin. The water had an awful smell not sure why. Our puppy loved the fenced back yard but she is only 6 pounds and could fit thru the fence. The area was quiet and cozy, we loved sitting on the front porch in the morning eating breakfast.

Owner's Response: Thank you for coming! This is a good opportunity to explain about our water in the area. Most cabins are on a well and ours is no different. The geological makeup of the area can lend itself to having a sulfur smell when the water is first turned on; this doesn't mean the water quality is affected in our area but it can be surprising to guests. I have a special filter system installed to help with this issue, but when the water level drops, the smell is more prevalent. Our guests love the new retaining wall in our backyard and our new fence - it is layered so very small dogs may fit through the slats and will still need to be watched. We have a very large front yard with plenty of room for your pet to enjoy without the worry of a long fall off a balcony. We do have no pet fee specials where 2 dogs may come along at no extra charge. This is something our guests have loved that we will continue at certain times of the year.

Great little cabin! Clean, comfortable bed, Jacuzzi was great after hiking all day. Used the fireplace daily. The only negative was the roads in (no fault of owner) Would rent again

Home away from Home

Really enjoyed staying at this welcoming little cabin . The first thing we noticed upon entering was the welcoming music and they even had an Easter card, with some Easter candy and other snacks.

The cabin was extremely clean. We have stayed in many cabins over the years, and this one was by far the cleanest.

The kitchen was small, but had everything one could need with the possible exception of a dishwasher.

The living room was very comfortable and inviting. There were two sofas. The decor was country with lots of Black Bear items. It was done very tastefully, and was not overwhelming.

The bedroom was awesome. The mattress on the king size bed was very comfortable.

The bathroom was good also. Great water pressure, which can sometimes be a concern in the mountains. The water itself seemed to have a metallic taste , but that is easily solved with bottled water.

The back porch was very welcoming as well. Simba and Mia loved the fenced in backyard area.

Front porch was a wonderful spot for sipping a cup of hot tea in the morning. It felt more like a home that a rental cabin when looking out over the front yard, and noting the flowering shrubs in the area.

Owners are wonderful to work with. I had to change our dates, and they were very accommodating.

We definitely will visit again.
