About Duke Walsen

I visited Wears Valley from my home up north over ten years ago and fell in love with the area. I felt at home in the mountains and realized pretty quickly that I could have my dream life. I retired and relocated to Wears Valley and now own two cabins of my own that my wife and I would love to share with you..

Duke Walsen purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Duke Walsen chose East

This cabin has a wonderful, central location and charm. I loved the backyard where couples can bring their pet along on vacation and not have to worry about them and I loved the spacious front yard that creates privacy and a welcoming outdoor haven for anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of normal life.

What makes this cabin unique

A fenced yard in the back for your pet! The cabin is decorated beautifully and is cozy and close to Pigeon Forge. Love the real wood fireplace as well for romantic evenings.

Romantic cabin for two

  • 4 of 5

Great cabin for a couple (+dog). We didn't try the hot tub but it looks pretty nice to have. Has everything we needed, but the location is less convenient than we expected.

Cozy sweet little cabin

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent our honeymoon here. We wanted a secluded little place and this was just perfect. The hot tub was really nice. There are a lot of little starter items which was very helpful plus it save us from having to buy whole packs to have just a few of things. The cabin has good wifi and cable. The road in is a little tricky. I would take foxwell way instead of Nichols Branch from Bluff Mountain way. Perfect getaway for 2.

Quaint little "Bear Hugs" in the woods.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed staying at the cabin. It is decorated very well and the hot tub was awesome. Snacks and Music awaited us when we arrived. Cabin was very clean and inviting.

It came with everything needed, except washer and dryer, but that was really AOK. (Who wants to work while on an R&R Retreat anyway?)

Close enough to Sevierville / Pigeon Forge, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle.

The only down-side is the Apple GPS directions on an extremely rough and rocky dirt/gravel road that felt like a scene out of "Deliverance" - once we found our way on the paved roads then it was awesome. Dogs loved the fenced in back yard, however, if you have very small pets < 12 lbs, they can get through the railing on the porch and get out.

Lovely, precious, cozy place!

  • 5 of 5

Better than described!! We had a lovely, relaxing time at this uber-pet-friendly cabin. Thankfully, the AC worked perfectly because it was SO hot outside. Absolutely the only drawback is the terribly rocky dirt road to get to the cabin. No complaints otherwise!

Owner's Response: We are delighted you felt your pet was welcome at Bare Hugs! Thank you for coming! We are starting to encourage all our guests to be sure and follow the directions we have in our check in information since that is different than the GPS directions. When traveling in the mountains, it is very important to follow the owner's directions to get to a cabin - we have heard stories of people ending up on a different mountain! Our directions avoid the more difficult roads to get to our cabin but a GPS can't do that. Our normal road we use is not difficult.

Adorable, clean, convenient cabin!

  • 5 of 5

They thought of everything. We drove up in the dark and happily found the outdoor lights on! Upon entering, we were wooed with the country music playing. The cabin is even cuter than the pictures. We also loved that the owners left a snack bowl for the weary travelers and doggie biscuits for the dogs! We were grateful they also had paper towels, dish soap, hand soap, shower soap, flashlight/ night lights, playing cards and a stash of DVD's. It was nice and clean, very cozy, and comfy. We also loved driving up the hills in the neighborhood for some of the most beautiful views! We were thrilled at how quickly we could get to the heart of Pigeon Forge. Thank you!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed it! We love our own dogs and want our guests to feel their furry family members are also welcome at our cabin. The dog treats are one way to express that. My wife has worked hard to try to think of everything someone might want or need during their stay so I give her credit for the "extras". One of the best things is the convenient location - we are about 5-8 minutes to Pigeon Forge, grocery shopping, dining out so you don't feel like you are making a trip just to get somewhere. Hope to have you back soon!
