About the property

2 BR/2 Bath Private Modern Cabin with Exquisite Mountain Views, Beulah

'Vinemesa Cabin' is located in the small artists' village of Beulah, Colorado, in the foothills below the picturesque Wet Mountains. Local legend claims that this secluded valley became the favored hideout of a horse thief, Juan Mace, attributing the nick-name 'Mace's Hole'. Located 25 miles southwest of Pueblo, this area is at an elevation of 6,800 feet and on the outskirts of the San Isabel National Forest, an ideal place for picnicking, fishing and hiking. The area is also home to Lake San Isabel, which is open year round and is stocked by the Colorado State Department of Wildlife.

Beulah is conveniently located about an hour from the Colorado Springs Airport and just 20 minutes from Pueblo (groceries etc.). A beautiful drive 'over the mountains' takes you to the Royal Gorge and Canon City, Westcliffe, & LaVeta for a trip on the Royal Gorge train, white-water river rafting, kayaking, canoeing. A trip up nearby Greenhorn Mountain, at 12,500 ft., offers a splendid view of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. Or tour Bishop's Castle. This huge stone and iron castle, complete with a smoking dragon, is an intriguing side trip to the small town of nearby Rye.

Beulah 'town' offers a general store with gas station, an antique shop, a post office and 2 restaurants. Our cabin is within walking distance to the heart of the village, yet situated on a secluded ponderosa pine mountain side with a small stream. Glorious mountain views, black bears, families of deer and various birdlife can be seen from the numerous windows and dining deck. Head out the front door for hiking up the canyon, flag mountain or a short cut to the San Isabelle National Forest.

Our cabin is newly constructed with all modern comforts including two state of the art gas fireplaces, internet and wifi, ipad/ipod docks for music, modern kitchen with large island for baking or family projects, seating for 6, and every kitchen amenity needed to create from simple to elaborate meals.

The layout consists of an open living area with sleeper sofa and fireplace with views of the ponderosas and surrounding mountain range, large kitchen/dining area with fireplace and access to outdoor dining again, overlooking the pines, one guest bathroom on main level, one master bedroom with queen bed and beautiful views of the mountains, one twin room with two twin beds, 1 full bath with freestanding bathtub and separate shower on the second floor.

All bed linens, bath towels and kitchen towels are included in your rental.

About Abigail Leese

Originally from the U.S., I now live with my family in the French West Indies. I'm a photographer and my companion, an architect, designed our cabin. This will be our third renovation build together. You can see our other rental property in Amboise, France named 'La Petite Vigne' on VRBO.

Abigail Leese purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Abigail Leese chose Beulah

My mother and step-father have lived in Beulah for 25 years. While visiting, my companion and I fell in love with the town and the surroundings. As faith had it, there was an excellent opportunity to buy a beautiful piece of land adjacent to that of my mother. We began construction in the summer of 2014.

What makes this cabin unique

Our cabin was professionally designed by my companion, Francois Pecard ( It has a unique European design a bit uncommon for the area, but we feel the verticality and dark color fit beautifully with the ponderosas! The inside is minimalist with white and beetle kill pine (local wood killed by beetles). Modern and cozy, comfortable and simple. The home is secluded to neighbors yet located in the heart of town so you can take nice walks to the general store, post office or restaurants.

Guestbook comments from the owner

You're mom is wonderful! We are completely in love with your home and couldn't be happier. We couldn't have picked a better place.

Best VRBO we could've imagined!

  • 5 of 5

We randomly found this house and Beulah on the map and decided to give it a go - we love new little towns, and the house looked amazing was even more perfect in person. The ambience, the décor, the floor plan, the quietness around the house - all of it was exactly what we wanted. We loved having no TV, and instead sat in front of the fire each night! We only stayed for a weekend, but cannot wait to come back for even longer.

We kind of didn't want to review the house for all to see, because we want it to be our little secret!

As far as specifics - Penny (the keyholder) had the house ready for us when we got there, and was easily accessible both and after, and Abby responded quickly to our requests via VRBO prior to our visit. The kitchen had everything we needed, except maybe some Ziploc bags! It was great to have a second half bath, and the full bathroom had plenty of towels - we only wish we had brought bubble bath for the claw foot tub. All of the candles were perfect, as was sitting on the porch in the afternoon sun (which is actually where we got engaged on our first day there!).

We cannot wait to get back to Vinemesa and Beulah. The valley is absolutely gorgeous.

My wife, daughter, and our two dogs had a great time at this lovely home. The house was simple, modern, clean, and was a perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful views of Beulah, Colorado. It's located in a sparse section of a small community of this rural, mountain town which is tucked in the mountains of Beulah. A few houses can be seen when on the property but overall it feels very isolated, private, and incredibly quiet. I enjoyed taking the dogs on daily walks around the hilly neighborhood and looking at all of the beautiful homes in what seemed like a hunting community of old houses and cabins.

Everything about the house, the neighborhood, and our stay was incredible and memorable. I would highly recommend this property and will forever be in love with Beulah, Colorado.

Wonderful cabin and a perfect little getaway in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful time in Beulah valley. We had never been to that area of Colorado. The small town was charming. We took a drive to Bishop Castle and got to experience red dirt highway over the mountain... it was awesome! We also hiked through Pueblo Mountain Park there close to the cabin. It was perfect... only saw one person on the trail.

The cabin was the perfect size for our 5 person family plus small dog. It was cozy, clean, and very nicely decorated. Very minimalist! The kitchen was perfect. We played cards every night and enjoyed the two fireplaces downstairs. We also loved the chalkboard door - played Hangman every night as well. Loved the artwork painted by the daughter of the cabin owners. We will most definitely be back! Thank you :-)

Absolutely Perfect! Home was beautiful and quite location!!

Overall stay was fantastic couldn't be happier with the accommodations!! The ideal mountain cabin and has everything you need to get away but have all the comforts of home!! We are big fans of the modern farmhouse look, so we Love how it's decorated. We were close to all the adventures we wanted to experience! We are usually concerned about staying places without AC since we are from Texas but it was more than comfortable!! So don't let that hold you back in the summer months! Not much in the town but Pueblo isn't far for anything you need. (General store in town is a good resource) We wouldn't hesitate to stay again if we find ourselves in the Pueblo area again!!

It was just as I had imagined.

After a 10 hour drive, the Vinemesa cabin was a joy to see and it did not disappoint. It was clean and welcoming with lots of IKEA accessories. I didn't know it had a clawfoot tub. My kids never found a TV 😉 but it did have wifi. We saw a large buck in the evenings, grazing. We enjoyed listening to nature on the balcony. We opened the windows in the evenings and it kept the cabin cool the next day. We loved our stay and would love to come back. We received our refund deposit in about a week after checkout. All is well. Thank you.
