Creative Farmhouse On The River

Sleeps6
Bedrooms 3
Bathrooms1
Space 1,200 sq ft
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 2 nights

Overview

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 6

This is a 3 bedroom, 1 bath farmhouse that is located on a 30 acre certified organic farm within the Eugene city boundaries. The farm has over 2,000 feet of frontage on the Willamette River.

The farmhouse has been redone but still has the original wooden floors, an insert fireplace and it is on its own 2 acre lot. Note, it is a home from the 50's and is nice and spacious but is not a deluxe luxury accommodation. There's no DVD player, big screen TV etc.... but there is a beautiful, quiet setting for you to enjoy (and fast wifi).

Each room is decorated with furniture and items from the owner's years of living overseas.

Guests are free to walk to the river (about a 5 minute walk), see the horse stables, visit the organic farm (or even pitch in and help if they desire!)

About Property Manager/Owner

I am a "semi retired" educator who has had the great experience of living and working overseas for the 16 years. I ran the farm from afar and came and worked all summer each year to try and keep things up (it didn't work very well :>).

Now, I am home and loving being able to work the land and live on this beautiful piece of property year round.

I live on the property further back.. My son and my mother, who's 87 years young work here most days and we have Wwoofers (from the World Wide Organization of Organic Farms) who live here for various lengths of time to learn farming.

Property Manager/Owner purchased this farmhouse in 2001

Why Property Manager/Owner chose Eugene

It's unique. It is a working certified organic farm and it has beautiful river frontage. I have also decorated the house with items that I obtained while living abroad. (Please note that it's about a 5 minute walk to the river's edge from the house).

Guests can observe a real working farm and buy fresh, organic produce right from the farm!

What makes this farmhouse unique

A person can bike from here easily and/or hike the property or the old boat landing at the end of the road. It's a unique opportunity to visit a farm and see all of the animals and crops.

Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a quiet spot not too far from all that Eugene had to offer, and this was perfect! The farmhouse was modest but spacious and had everything we needed. No frills, no TV's (that is a good thing - really). The farmhouse has fast internet, so I was able to do the work I needed to do on my laptop. I enjoyed strolls around the farm animals which included a flock of domesticated turkeys, about 15 horses, a few sheep, and a few dogs and cats. The picnic table by the river was one of our favorite places to relax. There is nothing like a chilled bottle of wine and watching the river and the clouds roll by. The owner was gracious and considerate of our privacy and made us feel so welcome. We had wonderful organic fresh eggs for breakfast every morning and enjoyed the company of Atticus the handsome collie who is King of the farm. We will definitely consider this house as an option if we travel to Eugene again!

disappointing stay in Eugene

  • 2 of 5

Unwilling to use some amenities:

1. Shower was moldy

2. coffee pot smelled bad and was dirty

3. would not use kitchen because of ants

4. fridge and freezer were not clean

Other issues:

1 windows, screens and window tracks were filthy

2 dead bugs in window track and on floors upstairs/

3 laundry room dirty and dusty

4 needed a thorough going over to make clean

5. bathroom sink drained very slowly

6. The air conditioner covered the living room only. I had requested air conditioning and was informed that it was air conditioned. The bedrooms were too hot for sleeping.

My wife and adult daughter refused to stay another night so I rented hotel room for them.

Charming, welcoming and quiet.

We had a wonderful visit and enjoyed our smoothies and fresh produce. Would have loved to have heard the history behind all of the unique pieces in the house.

Great stay and kids enjoyed!

  • 5 of 5

When we first pulled in we didn’t know quite what to expect. The house seemed a bit worn from the outside....however, once through the entry way, all of a sudden you’re in a spacious living room, wonderfully deforated from trips to India and Asia. We had little kids (6, 3, 2 1/2, 16 months) so ended up moving anything breakable to the upper shelves. We stayed in summer so the upper floor was a bit hot, however, the owners had installed AC on the first floor which was lovely to have. The farm is great! The kids loved seeing the horses, turkeys, chickens, dog, and new puppy. The river was fun to swim in and cool off. The owners even have a menu offering farm fresh smoothies and organic eggs. It was a great stay and we would certainly book it again!
