This log cabin is the quiet retreat that the doctor ordered for your get-away from stress and the pressures of your fast-paced life. It is located on 35 acres in a gated community and a 20 minute drive from the Royal Gorge with its rafting and sight-seeing activities. It is cozy and charmingly decorated. It is truly a quiet getaway. There is Direct TV, WiFi and a land line phone, but no reliable cell service.
The cabin has three levels. On the lower level walk out there is a bedroom with queen bed and a large bath and a bunk area that sleeps 4. The family room includes a TV and DVD player (including some family DVDs), a piano and game table.
The main level kitchen is furnished with everything necessary for your cooking needs. There is a glass topped stove, granite counter tops, mixer, coffee maker, coffee grinder, microwave and blender. It has excellent water with a 700 foot well. The great room is furnished with leather couches in front of a pellet stove which operates on a thermostat with supplemental electric heat. The master bedroom is located on this level as well as laundry facilities.
The upper level consists of a bedroom with queen bed, bathroom and a loft overlooking the great room. You'll enjoy relaxing in the leather recliner with beautiful views of the pine covered hills.
There is a closet full of games and puzzles and a large, carpeted loft in the garage that is a favorite play area for kids and teens. This area is accessed by a ladder and should be used with caution.
The wrap-around deck is ideal for relaxing, eating outside, watching the wildlife, feeding the hummingbirds, or observing the nighttime stars from the telescope. The north and south sides are covered for daytime shade and there are chairs for relaxing as well as a large table for family meals. A BBQ grill is kept in the garage and can easily be rolled out to the patio for your BBQ dinners.
We built this cabin as a private family retreat and have greatly enjoyed it over the years. Our three generations love getting away to the mountains and have enjoyed many happy days here. It's been a blessing to share with friends and we're happy to share it with you.
Joe and Pat Gossack purchased this cabin in 2003
This property can accommodate several families or couples for quiet getaways or family reunions. It is spacious and private yet close enough to town for activities or dinners out. The Colorado mountains are at your fingertips and you'll enjoy 360 degree views of the mountains from the wrap around deck. Hiking and biking are out the front door and more adventurous activities are close by. The beautifully crafted log home will provide the perfect environment for your Colorado getaway.
Thank you so much for entrusting us with your beautiful cabin! Everything here was a treat, from the wonderful décor to watching the hummingbirds, to the absolute quiet (once our kids went to bed). This is an awe-inspiring place, both inside and out!
We enjoyed our stay in this cabin. The layout is nice as everyone has their own space. It is well equipment with everything you need to make family dinners. There are great views from the deck. The only little thing is there are mice. They got into our candy one night and ate it all. We saw them running across the floor in the basement and on the main level. This cabin is out in the woods so you can expect a few critters.
This was an awesome place to stay in Canon City, CO!!! My family already can't wait to come back here-there is everything you need already here and the hosts are so gracious and quick to respond! The pictures can't do it justice-it is every more amazing in person. One of our favorite parts was the drive to the cabin viewing the wildlife and the hummingbird feeders with a note how to fill them-gave us hours of relaxation and gazing at them! I'm still so greatful that Pat and Joe rent this place! Memories made in the most wonderful place. It is very close to white water rafting and Royal Gorge and we went 1 1/2 hours away to Colorado City for the day. BOTTOM LINE--COME STAY HERE!
A mountain cabin stay was one of my bucket list items. I put a check + on this one. I've been to mountain resorts all over the US and Canada but never stayed in a cabin. This one was very roomy, very well equipped including washer and dryer. This is actually a home and I loved the peaceful solitude and quiet. The wrap-around deck (furnished with plenty of tables and chairs) was great for sunrise / sunset coffee and meals. Although we used this as a base while visiting the Royal Gorge area attractions we decided to take 2 afternoons off just to hangout at the cabin and play games on the deck. It was probably the most valuable time we spent together as a family on the whole trip. Also this was a gated mountain!
Things to know:
This is a 3 level cabin with no A/C. Top floor is a bedroom / bath and balcony sitting area. It gets warm during the day but open a window at night (during the heat of a record hot summer July 2016) and you will need a blanket for sleeping. So this was no problem for us. The mid level was a bedroom/bath, 1/2 bath/ kitchen, dinning, and great room. Even in the heat of the day these were very comfortable. Again an open window in the bedroom at night made this very comfortable sleeping. The bottom level was always cool even in the heat of the day. One night we had to turn on the heat at this level. If I go back to the Canon City area I will stay here again for sure.
This place was exactly as advertised. It was roomy, clean, and absolutely gorgeous. The owners were very attentive to all of our needs. They communicated with us as needed whenever we had questions. We had a party of 9 adults and one child. There was more than enough space for all of us. The cabin was exceptionally well stocked with anything you could want or need. The views were spectacular. Would definitely recommend. Thanks for such a gorgeous place to spend our vacation.
This house is amazing! It exceeded our expectations. It was plenty spacious for our group with room for more. The owners are so hospitable and welcoming. The owners are excellent at communication. The house was very clean, had precise instruction on operating tv and other helpful notes. The light switches were labeled which was very helpful!! We would recommend this house to anyone. The views were amazing. It felt like I was staying at a friend's house. Thank you so much!!
This cabin was even lovelier in person than it appeared online. There was plenty of room for our large group of 12 with space to spare. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well supplied, and the view was breathtaking. The only downside to the cabin was that it was a bit of a drive down the mountain each day to reach other activities, but it was absolutely worth it. The quiet breakfasts each morning on the deck watching the hummingbirds and drinking coffee were my favorite part of our vacation.
Twenty minutes from the Arkansas River at the Royal Gorge with world class whitewater rafting and kayaking, horseback riding, fly fishing, zipline and helicopter tours. Thirty minutes from Canon City with restaurants, wine tours and scenic train tours.
