About the property

Very Private 2.5 Ac Mountain Retreat: True 3 Bdr On Large, Rushing Trout Stream

The Experience: Moonshine Bend is the perfect retreat for plant enthusiasts, animal lovers, bird watchers, and anglers. Here, the wildlife is flourishing, the farmhouse is comfortable and the grounds provide a safe haven for you and nature, alike. Come stay at Moonshine Bend to enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience with mother nature.

What a way, to get away! This beautiful, secluded, and very well appointed country farmhouse feels like it’s miles from anywhere, when in reality… it’s 7 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway, 15 minutes to Boone, 20 minutes to Blowing Rock and just a short drive to West Jefferson.

Surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, this charming farmhouse has over 1000 feet of a pristine, state stocked, trout stream, known as Elk Creek, running through the 2.5 acre property.

Endless opportunities await you on the farm. Casting your line for that trophy trout, splashing in the swimming holes, hiking, cycling, playing croquet or horse shoes, even catching fire flies at dusk on a summer’s eve.

When you’re ready to venture away from the farm, you’re at the foot of the High Country. To your left, Boone, Blowing Rock, & Banner Elk. To your right, the charming town of West Jefferson. Antiquing, Tweetsie Railroad, ski resorts, horseback riding, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caverns, the original Mast General Store of Valle Crucis, a Tanger Outlet Mall and Moses Cone Estate are all within a short drive.

When all the activities have worn you out, there’s nothing better than rocking away the time on the porch’s rockers or perhaps a nap in the hammock by the creek would soothe your soul. This is truly a place to drop out of the hustle & bustle and tune in to nature. Where deep breaths of fresh mountain air clear your mind and relax your body. Come feel this relaxation for yourself!

The Home: Come home to the Farmhouse where you will enjoy three bedrooms (sleeps six), two and one-half baths all furnished with high quality linens.

Cook your favorite meals in the very well-equipped kitchen or outside on the grill.

Enjoy the many amenities such as two cast iron stoves, whole-house water filtration system, zoned air conditioning and heating, wireless internet, a DVD player, television, plenty family oriented DVDs and family games and puzzles.

Ample parking is provided with easy access. And safety is a priority with new smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors throughout the house.

About Renee and Drew Royall

We both grew up in NC... We searched the High Country for a year before finding this unique and priceless piece of land. We consider it to be our "Devine Intervention!" A place to come and slow down, completely unwind & let the worries of everyday life, go!

Renee and Drew Royall purchased this farmhouse in 2015

Why Renee and Drew Royall chose Blue Ridge Mountains

In today's 24/7 plugged in lifestyle... we all need a place to unplug and decompress, if only for a couple of days. This is the spot!

Completely private, the home sits on the banks of Elk Creek, a pristine state stock trout stream. This home is on 2.5 acres of beautiful flat land, surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. Centrally located to Boone, Blowing Rock, West Jefferson and the famous Blue Ridge Parkway... this home provides a great base camp to explore the surrounding area OR simply checkin, and enjoy the land and Elk Creek.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Secluded, there are no other homes in sight.

Breath taking, the lay of the land & the position of the house on the creek is incredible.

Relaxing, rocking on the wrap around porch, napping in the hammock, or walking along the creek bank... You will feel yourself slow down and find yourself, enjoying the moment.

Convenient, to everything the highlands has to offer. 6 miles to the famous Blue Ridge Parkway, 15 minutes to Boone, less than half an hour to Blowing Rock and West Jefferson.

Fishing, a dream any angler can wake up too!

The music, of mother nature is awesome. You can hear and see elk creek from every room in the home.

The home, or as we call it, "the Farm"... Perfectly furnished and comfortable. "the Farm" will embrace you & your family! It will make you so happy, you'll be sad to leave.

Moonshine Bend is truly, a little piece of heaven on earth!

Moonshine delights

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Moonshine Bend. The creek is very peaceful and sounds great from the deck. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you might need for cooking. The beds are very comfortable. Plenty of activities to keep the family busy around the property and inside the house. Very enjoyable stay.

Perfect Mountain Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We live at the beach so my children had been begging me to take them to the mountains. This house and property provided the perfect getaway for our family to explore Boone and it's surrounding areas. Our kids and dog spent many hours playing, swimming, and fishing in the creek behind the house. Everyday we explored different hiking trails as there are many to choose from within a short drive.

The Royall's were responsive and courteous people. We had a bit of an emergency exit from our stay and they went out of their way to accommodate my family members that were able to stay.

A comfortable clean home and good people to work with. We would and most likely will rent this place again.

Perfect Getaway with Family

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 4 with 2 teenagers and we planned our winter vacation full of activities in Boone, including ice skating, skiing, hiking, etc. The day we arrived at the cabin and saw the big lot, river running behind the house, an awesome firepit, and every convenience inside the house, we knew our plans were going to change.

We spent 5 incredible days enjoying the house inside and out. The kitchen is fully stocked with every cooking ware imaginable for those that like to cook, the outside is big for kids to play outside, there are lots of movies and games provided inside for any taste. Even our teenagers enjoyed disconnecting from technology (even though there is wifi) and spending family time.

The cabin is 6 miles away from the main highway, but it could be a million miles. You cannot hear anyone and rarely see passing cars. And if you need supplies, you are only 6 miles away from the main road and a few more miles to all the big name markets and restaurants, including my wife's daily Starbucks run.

Already making plans to go in the summer.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much. We're always super thrilled to know that folks have enjoyed Moonshine Bend enough to where they want to return. We work very hard to make this a "Little Piece of Heaven on Earth", disconnecting and catching our breath from daily life. Moonshine Bend is a completely different landscape in the Summer. The creek's swimming holes are lots of fun. Thanks again and glad y'all enjoyed!

Hidden Gem by the Creek

  • 5 of 5

My cousin and I planned to have a quiet Christmas vacation at this home along with our families. I had seen the pictures and knew this was pretty but the place was just breath taking. the house was very well appointed with a lot of thought given to see that the kids also enjoyed their stay. There was plenty of things for adults as well. The weather was wet but the scenery from the patio by the creek side was beautiful. We just stayed the whole of three days at the home itself, going out for treks, kids loved the creek, bridge and the vast area. Really enjoyed the stay and will definitely try to return again

Perfect family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Moonshine Bend was the perfect setting for a family mountain getaway. The house was great and had all the comforts of home while forcing us to unplug and enjoy our time together. The property was amazing! The creek provided hours of entertainment from exploring, fishing, watching the butterflies and taking pictures as well as a beautiful setting for relaxing at night and enjoying smores by the fire pit. Keeping in mind that you are in the mountains and the roads are never straight or flat (increasing the time to go anywhere) the location was great and we were able to easily access all of our activities within 30min to an hour. Thank you for a wonderful experience. Hope future adventures will bring us back to the area so we can enjoy Moonshine Bend again!

When you’re in the High Country, you just never know what’s around the corner. You could be feeding the bears in the morning, and be on a train heading for trouble in the afternoon. Families build memories and traditions that last a lifetime, all set against the backdrop of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

Tweetsie Railroad: A Wild West family theme park featuring a three-mile, steam-powered train ride through the North Carolina mountains. Shopping, live entertainment, amusement rides and a petting zoo. Open on weekends in may (fri.-sun.). Open 7 days a week after Memorial Day weekend through mid-August. Mid-August through October, open weekends (fri.-sun.). Operating hours are 9am to 6pm. Ghost train Halloween Festival runs weekend evenings in October. Please call ahead to verify operating hours and rates, or visit our website for more information.

Tom Dooley: A Wilkes County Legend: Presented by Wilkes Playmakers, Tom Dooley: a Wilkes County legend, is the dramatization of the well-known 1868 Wilkes County love triangle that resulted in the murder of Laura Foster and the subsequent hanging of Tom Dula (pronounced Dooley). Folklore and legend feel that he confessed to the murder to protect his true love, Anne Melton. Local musicians will sing and play acoustical instruments and Appalachian square dancing will be featured.

Horn In the West: This outdoor drama in Boone—which runs mid-June through mid-August tells the tale of Daniel Boone’s adventures in the High Country and the little known, pivotal role local pioneers played in winning the American Revolution at the Battle of Kings Mountain.

Dates: June 27 to August 16, nightly except Mondays

Times: 7:30pm preshow; 8:00pm main performance

Grandfather Mountain: The swinging bridge at Grandfather Mountain the High Country’s premier natural attraction entertains, informs—even inspires—young and old, families, and the serious outdoor adventurer.

Grandfather Mountain, the tallest mountain in the Blue Ridge and the world’s only privately owned international biosphere reserve, is non-profit preservation at its loftiest.

A spectacular drive takes visitors to the newly wheelchair-accessible mile-high swinging bridge, thousands of feet above the Carolina Piedmont. You’ll marvel at 360-degree views of mountain ridge after mountain ridge retreating to the distant horizon. Surveys show that the journey to the other side is always the highlight of a trip to Grandfather Mountain.

A world-class nature museum, interpretive programs, and environmental habitats for deer, bears, cougars, eagles and otters offer outdoor education and entertainment. Awesome trails lead to high adventure.

The Blue Ridge Parkway

Called “America’s Favorite Drive,” but the Blue Ridge Parkway is about so much more than driving. Enjoy hiking trails, biking, lakes, picnic areas, bouldering, rock climbing, and of course, some of the most beautiful views in the south.
