Charming older home

  • 4 of 5

The Coffey Place is in a great location if you’re visiting Jasper or the Buffalo River. The home is spacious and had everything we needed for the weekend. It was decorated with beautiful artwork and had a comfortable, welcoming feel. Overall we enjoyed our stay. However, after having a fire for only a short period of time in the open gas log fireplace, I noticed there was not a carbon monoxide detector in the home. Upon reading the user manual, I learned that if a room has a specific amount of square footage, the fireplace can be ventless. After having nearly succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning a few years earlier from a gas heater, I was much too worried to leave the fire burning. Please, for the safety of everyone concerned, place a carbon monoxide detector in the room with the fireplace.

Owner's Response: I will certainly place a carbon monoxide detector in the room. There fireplace is not tightly sealed and the logs are actually vent-free. I am happy that you enjoyed your stay.

Very nice!

  • 5 of 5

If you are traveling in this area then Coffey Place is one to consider. The inside is spacious and very nice. Everyone traveling in our group commented on how nice the accommodations were. The owner was very responsive to questions we had prior to our trip which is a real plus when trip planning. We'd go back again.

Well-located and well-decorated

  • 5 of 5

Had such a great stay at Merlyn's home. It was private and we had everything we needed. It is also extremely well-located to some of the best hiking trails in the area. We also enjoyed seeing the cows grazing next door each day. Highly recommend!

Great porch and front yard with ample room inside

  • 5 of 5

The house is well appointed with a great view, great porch, nice furnishings and plenty of outdoor space for kids to run around (something unique in this area where most places with a view are literally hanging off a bluff.)

Came in late July with a group of 8 (5 adults, (2) eight year olds, and a four year old) to celebrate one of the eight year olds birthdays. Arrived on Friday afternoon and the kids immediately started playing football, baggo and other games in the front yard. Strung up a hammock between some pine trees and enjoyed the wonderful view from the front porch.

I was a little confused in the pictures of the houses layout with multiple dining spaces but it worked out perfect. The kids at in the kitchen at the table and bar there and the adults enjoyed the view from the nice table in the dining room.

We drove an hour on Saturday and floated from Grinders Ferry to Gilbert, with a mandatory stop at Coursey's to get some smoked meat and cheese. Cooked some steaks on the charcoal grill and then made s'mores back by the fire ring.

On Sunday we woke up and watched the fog lift out of the valley, then headed over to Lost Valley to hike the trails.

The daily visits from the neighboring cows and dog, and catching lightning bugs where also highlights for the kids.
