This was our second time at this house and third rental from this owner, but not even close to the last time! Best location you can get for the best hiking trails, elk viewing & access to the Buffalo River. The owner is so very nice & easy to work with.
It was terrific to host you!
Very nice house.
Cute and roomy!
Clean and nicely decorated.
I would definetly rent again!!
Great location, great house, but not properly cleaned or maintained
We came to climb in Horseshoe Canyon Ranch, making this a perfect location. The house sits astride the ridge top which offers splendid views. There is a mature forest in the back of the property. The kitchen was spacious and well stocked. The living area was nicely furnished and included a piano.
We were apparently the first renters to stay in 2018. We were there for the first week of March. When we first arrived I thought all looked well. There was no hot water so I emailed the owner who responded immediately that the breaker had probably flipped and we needed to reset it. This was a basic issue which was worked out easily.
As my wife is getting ready for bed I hear her from the next room say "oh no, grossss!" I knew then that my week's peace was to be irrevocably shattered. I went to the master bedroom and saw the bed had been with the comforter folded on top. Underneath the comforter, some mice had made a little spot to eat, defecate and presumably fornicate on the bed. Suddenly our eyes became accustomed to mouse droppings, because we then found mouse droppings in two other beds, in the bathroom, on the floors, in the bathtub!? and EVERYWHERE along the baseboards. I had to sleep without blankets that night, which sucked. Also, there was an odd assortment of kitchen bowls etc in the dishwasher when we arrived, which leads me to believe that the cleaner had gone through and washed all of the items in the pantry which had mouse droppings in them. That's a nice gesture but it didn't inspire confidence.
I emailed the owner that night and she apologized, said she had had a death in the family, that the cleaner hadn't been able to properly clean because the hot water had been out and that it would be taken care of the next day. Sure enough the cleaning lady did come back the next day, but when we came back I was perplexed to see that the mouse droppings along the baseboards remained everywhere. Apparently the cleaning lady said that she couldn't get those spots because they didn't have a vacuum with a hose attachment. Uhhh, buy one!?
The property was relatively expensive compared to similar properties in the area. For that money one might expect an offer of some compensation after such an ordeal. No such offer was made. Hopefully my payment will buy a vacuum with a hose attachment! Also, check the other reviews, as owner said she'd get a carbon monoxide detector, but this was not in place during our stay
Yes. It wAs a very unfortunate situation for both of us. My brother died. I had to take my husband to emergency room and when the water was turned on there was a broken pipe. This occurred the day before arrival of guest. Therefore I was not able to travel as I normally do after being closed. I had to rely on someone else. No one does as well as the owner. This was an extreme situation. I tried to get it right from afar. My profound apologies again.
Charming older home
The Coffey Place is in a great location if you’re visiting Jasper or the Buffalo River. The home is spacious and had everything we needed for the weekend. It was decorated with beautiful artwork and had a comfortable, welcoming feel. Overall we enjoyed our stay. However, after having a fire for only a short period of time in the open gas log fireplace, I noticed there was not a carbon monoxide detector in the home. Upon reading the user manual, I learned that if a room has a specific amount of square footage, the fireplace can be ventless. After having nearly succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning a few years earlier from a gas heater, I was much too worried to leave the fire burning. Please, for the safety of everyone concerned, place a carbon monoxide detector in the room with the fireplace.
I will certainly place a carbon monoxide detector in the room. There fireplace is not tightly sealed and the logs are actually vent-free. I am happy that you enjoyed your stay.
If you are traveling in this area then Coffey Place is one to consider. The inside is spacious and very nice. Everyone traveling in our group commented on how nice the accommodations were. The owner was very responsive to questions we had prior to our trip which is a real plus when trip planning. We'd go back again.
