About Eric Skemp

I am retired from The windsurfing business where I worked for over 35 years. Before that I worked in banking and the small sailboat business. Born in LA but raised on the east coast I have traveled quite a bit and lived in many beautiful locations. I ran a B&B part time many years ago and have a good understanding of travelers expectations for accommodations and things to do.

Conveniently, I live right across the street from Welcome House and have spent the last 14 months remodeling it and bringing it up to date.

Eric Skemp purchased this farmhouse in 2013

Why Eric Skemp chose Olympic Peninsula & Pacific Coast

Welcome House has a bit of history, once being a small dairy farm and for a time housed quite a large family. It is situated well back from the road and is surrounded by level grass covered ground. Its just one story making it convenient for those who are a bit challenged for getting around. I especially liked its 500 sq ft living room that greets everyone when they enter the home.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Puget Island is whats unique about Welcome House. Its off the main drag and maybe a bit undiscovered but close enough to shopping and things to do. We have a great little grocery in town just a couple of miles away and everyone here is very friendly. Good place for dogs where they can run and play off leash. If your dogs are swimmers there is a nice long beach at the north end of the island where they can chase a stick or just run on the river sand and its all fresh water!

And a new Siemens Car charging station for all electric cars. Perfect for travelers from Seattle and Portland.

My friend and I stayed here for a girls getaway weekend. We were competing with our Standard Poodles at a lure coursing event on the island. Eric's perfect house was so nice and we couldn't have wanted more. Well kept. Gorgeous view of the green pasture out front to watch the adorable native deer. Eric was a super host and was most welcoming. Thank you so much and when we know we will be competing again here we hope to get to stay at this wonderful house again.

Relaxing country get away

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Welcome House very much. Eric was an excellent host, the house was comfortable and the location was convenient to sightseeing at both the coast as well as Mt St Helens. Taking the bikes Eric provided around the island was fun and sitting on the porch watching the sunset in the evening was totally relaxing.

This was our second trip and we just loved it. Eric has become a friend. That's how well we like this place and him. Very nice man! It has been a pleasure getting to know him. You guys need to come down and rent this place but don't fill up the calendar as we plan on returning!!
