Big Sky Chalet Rental Photos and Description

3 Bdrm, 3 And 1/2 Baths, Den, Two Decks, Patio, Hot Tub, Exquisite Finishes!

Michele and I have been coming to Big Sky for over 15 years. We love to ski but we come year-round and we really love the Meadow! This residence is our fourth and most upscale residence in the meadow and if you cannot find an open slot on this residence calendar then you might check out the following VRBO numbers: 240962, 582804, or 608472. If you are wondering what kind of owners we are, please read the visitor reviews on those residences. This residence has recently been renovated; top to bottom!

Residence Physical Description:

This is a lovely almost 3,000 Square Foot, three level Condo with three and one half bathrooms, one master suite on the ground-level, a second master suite on the third-floor along with a large guest bedroom/bunk room. There is also a modest den for quiet gathering/TV, napping, or reading; yet this den has a new Queen sofa sleeper with a door for added privacy. This den can act as a fourth bedroom if desired. The residence occupies a premium location, close to the clubhouse and swimming pool and located at the end of its building which means it has beautiful, sunlit windows around three sides of the residence. The second-floor gourmet kitchen is fully supplied with all utensils, a granite-topped kitchen island with seating for two and granite counter tops and back-splash throughout the kitchen. There is wood cove molding throughout the entire residence with many wood accents such as overhead beams in the dining room off the kitchen. There are also two small decks for sipping coffee and admiring the views on both the north and south sides of the second floor living level along with a private patio, hot tub, and gas grill on the ground level facing south toward the green space and golf course. All three bathrooms have enclosed, glass-door, stone showers with granite vanity tops and the third floor Master bathroom also has a large soaking tub and dual sinks with a multi-head shower. The first two floors are laid with hand-cut quarter-sawn real wood flooring with carpeting throughout the third-level. There is an elegant, eight seat dining room off the kitchen with windows on two sides, and located close-by there is a windowed, granite-topped office space that can serve as additional dining space for children. The main living room is windowed on three sides with spectacular sunny southern exposure mountain and golf course views and a slate, real-wood fireplace. Finally, the residence is equipped with a large, one-car heated garage so skiers and boarders begin each day with clean, dry equipment. A second vehicle may be parked outside, directly behind the garage door.

Location and Amenities:

This is a South facing residence with all day sun which looks out across a large green space, driving range, and golf course with views across the green space to the mountains south of Town Center. Almost unheard of in Big Sky, you will have summer access to a private association swimming pool & hot tub with year-round access to an association clubhouse, pool table, and exercise room. There is a lovely tributary of the Gallatin River running directly in front of the residence which provides a peaceful babbling brook sound effect when running freely in three seasons. The World-famous Lone Mountain Ranch Nordic Ski Center maintains an extensive cross-country trail network which literally encircles the residence and flows both out into the green-space and golf course as well as up-mountain into two different trails which lead back toward the Ranch; one a moderate difficulty, 15 minute route and a second, more strenuous 25 minute course. A trail pass is required in the winter and in the summer months these trail systems become multi-use, hiking, jogging, and biking recreational avenues. The residence is a 40 minute drive to West Yellowstone and its entrance to Yellowstone National Park. A two-minute drive east on Little Coyote road takes you to a lovely fishing pond and public recreation facility providing: 8 tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball and soccer fields, 18 hole mountainside Frisbee golf course, climbing wall, and a world class, concrete, feature-rich skateboard park complex, picnic shelters and charcoal grills. In the winter ski season, Lone Mountain Ranch Lodge and Nordic Ski Center is a three minute drive west, the drop off at the Big Sky base lodge is 6 minutes up the mountain, and the drop off at Moonlight Basin is 10 minutes up the mountain trail. One cautionary note for a winter stay in this residence: the mountain shuttle bus to the lifts is a whistle-stop on Little Coyote Road, three times a day (8am,11am, & 4pm) and it requires a transfer in Town Center and for some guests, this limited service might be an inconvenience. The concerts, skating, rodeos, farmers markets, movies, galleries, restaurants, bars and many activities of Town Center are a 10-minute walk in summer as the crow flies, or an easy 15-20 minute walk on the road through the golf community, and in all seasons, a three minute auto ride. Basically, the area and the location of this residence puts your family in an optimal Alpine retreat and sets the stage for making exquisite family memories!

About Phil Barnhill

Michele and I live in Minnesota, we have three children, and we have vacationed in Big Sky for more than 15 years. Big Sky is like a great marriage: you will fall in lust with it at first sight, it will grow on you, you will have many adventures, occasional hardships like getting lost while hiking or getting a federal speeding ticket in Yellowstone Park, or hitting an elk with your vehicle, you will create memories and while Michele and I have LOVED going to Big Sky, we have always LOVED going home....until a fall trip with the kids in September, 2013. It is inexplicable...but we absolutely did NOT want to come home for the very first time ever. Our hearts are hooked by Montana. God's creation is truly magnificent!

Phil Barnhill purchased this chalet in 2015

Why Phil Barnhill chose Yellowstone Country

Our original coach home chalet, VRBO# 240962 was a 'test' purchase to see if our family could really fall in love with the area enough to come back to over and over again: It passed the test! We have recently decided to build a greater presence in Big Sky by purchasing two more lovely residences in the Meadow: VRBO #608472 and VRBO #582804. Why? Because a great deal of year-round recreational activity is developing right in the Meadow as it morphs into Downtown Big Sky AND the combination of the three ski resorts into one resort making Big Sky “The Biggest Skiing in America” will attract more enthusiasts to Big Sky to see how lovely it is. These three residences should be great Legacy investments for our children and their families should we be fortunate enough to not have to sell them in our later years. Michele and I have been in the advisory business for decades and common ownership of real estate by ones children is a recipe for discord while individual residences will be a blessing. And now with this final residence, Mom and Dad will also have some separate space as our adult children begin having families of their own and it is no accident that this new Spanish Peaks Condo has a swimming pool so that even when grandchildren are in Big Sky, our grandchildren will want to visit Grandma and Grandpa! Our prayer is that our four residences can become a blessing to large families with Children and Grandchildren and that they will be rented for family reunions and large gatherings of friends, for wedding parties, and other family-focused events. Hey…our home state of Minnesota is beautiful but Montana is awe inspiring....renewing. Normally, it takes an ocean to renew and revive us but we have discovered that if you can get into the back-country by hiking, fishing in remote locations along the Gallatin, riding a horse or mountain biking into the Porcupine wilderness, you will be revived beyond words. As our family does, we hope you come back over and over again.

What makes this chalet unique

The main residence description gives you great insight to the general benefits of this residence. This section asks for Unique Benefits:

1) If you look at all four of our VRBO listed properties in the meadow, three at Firelight and this one on the meadow and golf course, you have available the opportunity to sleep about 32 people comfortably in beds because all four of the three bedroom residences also have pull-out couches and bunk beds in lofts or dens. Family reunions, weddings, large nuclear families etc…etc…..Think of the progressive dinners you could enjoy!

2) The residence is smack dab in the middle of the largest network of cross country ski trails in the nation. The trail network is maintained by the fabled Lone Mountain Ranch.

3) A lovely visual and audible stream runs in front of the residence and gives delight in three seasons when sitting quietly on the patio or the deck above the patio or in the living room with the windows open.

4) The south-facing living room view means sun all day with a beautiful view out over green meadow space and a golf course then into the mountains south of Town Center.

5) Association Clubhouse (for quiet and orderly gatherings).

6) Association Gym.

7) Association Swimming Pool and Hot Tub in the summer months.

8) Less than one mile to a massive public park with a pond, stream, tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer, baseball, awesome skateboard park, bathrooms, picnic tables, charcoal grills, climbing wall etc….

9) 6 minute drive to Big Sky lifts, 10 minutes to Moonlight Basin lifts, 3 minutes to Lone Mountain Ranch cross-country ski lodge and HQ,

10) Two car heated garage.

11) Year-round private hot tub on the patio looking out on the meadow green space.

12) Brief walk to the meadow Golf clubhouse and driving range.

13) What are awesome cross-country ski trails in winter are magnificent bike trails in the summer.

14) There is a second deck just off the dining room on the North side of the residence.

family vacation

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful place to stay. The house was very clean and well decorated.

It was an easy drive to Yellowstone , about 45 minutes. We enjoyed the local restaurants and shops. We also hiked in the Big Sky area. Thank you Phil and Michele for all the tips to make our stay memorable. I would recommend this property to all my friends and family. Watching the sun rise over the mountains each morning was wonderful.

The perfect home away from home

  • 5 of 5

It had been several years since my family, husband and 3 children in their 20's, have been able to get away together on a family vacation. After everyone confirmed, it was up to me to plan the trip and find the perfect place for us to stay. The pressure was on to make our week together be the best ever. We are from California and had not ever been to Montana, Wyoming, or Idaho. I had to rely on the descriptions of the surrounding areas from the owners of the properties, as well as the photos of the units themselves. We were over joyed once we pulled into the garage of Phil and Michelle's condo. Not only were the pictures accurate, it was even better than we could have hoped. It was furnished to awesome perfection making us feel at home right away. The kitchen was fully equipped with plenty of cooking gear to choose from and stocked for more than just one meal with dishes, glassware and silverware. We brought our own seasonings, but didn't need to due to the spice rack on the counter. We shopped for the week at the Walmart in Bozeman about an hour away. There is a neighborhood grocery store to run to, but the prices were a bit inflated due to the area. We ate every meal at the condo and had great family discussions sitting at the large dining table keeping the "cook" company. The condo was equipped with everything needed from beach towels, hair dryers, make up mirrors, family games even down to an extra set of binoculars. Big Sky resort was about a 10 minute drive up the mountain and we enjoyed the lift rides to skeet shooting and the facial in the hotel spa. The trailhead to the Ousel Falls hike is only minutes away from the condo. It's a very easy walk up and down and is a beautiful way to spend an hour or two. Some locals turned us on to a more rigorous hike nearby called Beehive Trail. Wait a couple of days until you are acclimated to the altitude before tackling it. It was about an hour drive to the west entrance to Yellowstone. We spent 2 different days traveling through one of the most awe inspiring national parks we've been to. We recommend Yellowstone Montana for the Gallatin River zip line tour just up the 191 on the way to Bozeman. The golf course is very close and a great one to play according to my son. It's hard not to have a great time when you are with your family on vacation, but having this condo as our home base made our trip perfect. Thanks again for a great stay!

Owner's Response: Barb, Speechless. So much to do, and so little time. Even doing nothing but watching the sun rise creates a desire to come back and stay longer. Thank you for the wonderful review of the residence and the area! Phil, Michele, and Mariah

Perfect for Families!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this property was fantastic.... from the reservation to the pre-arrival instructions to the condition of the house to the easiest checkout process ever!

Our summer getaway was even more special due to the comfort of Phil and Michele's home. The layout was spacious enough to comfortably accommodate my family of four (2 adults, 2 kids) AND my parents as we celebrated their 50th anniversary. It had everything we could need in a rental - it was truly like being at home. The proximity to the pool was a hit for the kids. The proximity to various hiking trails was fantastic. And, the easy drive to West Yellowstone made it easy to enjoy the park a few times during the week.

Mariah, the house manager, was lovely. She was responsive when we encountered a small problem (closet lock stayed locked) and had it fixed immediately even making sure she scheduled the appointment around our daily plans.

I can't speak highly enough of this rental. I've already recommended it to my friends!

Owner's Response: Adrienne, Thank you for such a lovely review and your compliments about Mariah, Michele, and myself. It definitely takes a team of dedicated folks to help provide the kind of immediate sense of joy and satisfaction we believe every guest has a right to expect and to receive from the moment they open the door until the moment they close it. Not being a Hotel, it is quite a focused effort to "pull it all off" especially when a guest checks out at 10am and another guest checks in at 4pm. Mariah shoulders a significant burden especially in Big Sky where good labor is scarce and expensive. We are pleased that SPC#12 proved to be a great Base Camp for your adventures in Big Sky/Yellowstone Country! Please come back and partner with us again in the future. Best....Phil, Michele, and Mariah

Owner's Response: Yahoo! Thank You! So glad that your family enjoyed this residence. We bought it because it has so much light, wood, granite everywhere, views, and in the summer it has access to the pool which you enjoyed. Access to an outdoor pool in Big Sky is a RARITY. In this location you have both a public hot tub at the pool and of course the private hot tub at our residence. MIchelle, thank you so much for leasing with Michele and I, we appreciate your partnership and we sincerely hope that you now feel that you too own a place in Big Sky to visit with friends and family ANYTIME you desire and we promise to keep it looking better and better every time you come. Thanks and all the best....Phil & Michele Barnhill

Absolutely loved this house!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time staying at this house. It's beautifully decorated, very cozy, and great view from the living room. The kitchen was fully stocked was everything we needed. The owners were great to work with. Big sky is absolutely beautiful! They were running a couple of the ski lifts so we took those up the mountain one day. Went on an amazing hike on the "Beehive Basin trail" and had some really good barbecue at "The Riverhouse Grill" off Gallatin Road. It was only about a 40 minute drive to Bozeman and to the west entrance at Yellowstone. If you go to Bozeman you must stop at "The Coffee Pot".

Owner's Response: Amanda, Thanks for your wonderful review! Isn't The Coffee Pot just a great memory with beautiful locally handmade pottery, a quaint environment and delicious food! It is out of the way while at Big Sky but anyone reading this message should know that if you are coming from or going to Bozeman, please put The Coffee Pot on your stop list for breakfast or lunch. The Inn, which is another small resort facility on 191 south of The Coffee Pot, gets rave meal reviews but it is always jammed and a hike from Big Sky...but if you are not in a hurry give it a shot and let us know what you think. Amanda, thanks for sharing your experience in Big Sky; we hope you come back and bring a herd of "Flatlanders" up into the mountains! Phil, Michele and Mariah

Fabulous Stay

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely condo in Meadow Village. It is spacious, beautifully appointed, quiet and convenient to the Big Sky ski resort. Owners Phil and Michele were wonderful! They provided excellent information about the area and always responded quickly to any questions we had. In addition to enjoying the condo's hot tub after a full day on the slopes, the rec center with a pool table, fitness center, large screen TV, kitchen and pool (for summer use) was just a short walk from the condo. It was nice to park our vehicle in the garage, especially on those snowy days. We would definitely stay here again, and hope to do so in the future.

Owner's Response: Tracie....THANK YOU for your inspiring review. Michele and I also just had our maiden stay in this residence and we decided to make a few tweaks to enhance the overall experience and so it is great to hear that you had a wonderful stay. I pause every once in a while in a review response simply to remind our rental partners (and ourselves) that delivering value is NOT simply delivering a clean, well stocked "cheap" residence. Really delivering value is by making every effort as an owner to be a great ambassador for Big Sky/Yellowstone Country realizing that our guests are not coming to Big Sky to stay in one of our residence....NOOOOO, you and they are coming to fall in love with Big Sky and Yellowstone and re-connect with skiing, hiking, nature and family & friends and on and on....our residence simply becomes an enabling factor and we therefore want to do anything in our ability to answer questions and to provide contextual value added that will optimize the investment of time and money which our rental partners are laying out to come to Big Sky and Yellowstone. Please make our homes, your homes! All the best...Phil, Michele, and Mariah....

Enjoy the Big Sky Zip Line on the mountain! Big Sky now offers a brand new 3 screen Movie Theater located in the Meadow. No more trips to Bozeman just to see a movie! You can eat in the theater and enjoy your favorite child OR adult beverage while watching the movie. In the summer ride the Tram to the TOP of Lone Mountain and see for hundreds of miles around. Remember if you are skiing and you do not posses the skill to ski from the peak, you can still ride the Tram up to the Peak and then ride the Tram back down again. This is a MUST DO. You can enjoy a gourmet meal in a newly opened log structure restaurant up on the mountain (I understand this will be open summer and winter as accessed by a chairlift from the base of Big Sky). There is simply soo very much to do right in Big Sky it is difficult to describe it all. Then to all of this, you add all that Yellowstone Park contributes to your family experience!

The VRBO damage deposit insurance of $59 is required so that we do NOT have to collect a refundable, cash damage deposit and this is a wonderful benefit for all stakeholders.
We would consider splitting the rent into two payments; but our standard operating procedure is to collect 100% in advance. Cleaning fees are moving upward in Big Sky; great dependable labor is difficult to find and difficult to manage. Our places are spotless. Thank you.

The Master bath also contains a large soaking tub. These are truly lovely bathrooms. The main knock on the residence as it is currently configured would be that there is no guest bathroom on the second-level main living space. This will change at the latest by Mid-September 2015 with the conversion of the second-level laundry room to a second-level stacked high-capacity washer/dryer and lovely but small guest half bath so that folks do not have to trek to their bedrooms from the second-level to use a bathroom.

  • There are three bedrooms and a den in this residence. One of the bedrooms is located on the entry-level of the three story condo. This bedroom has been made into a second Master bedroom suite with a Queen bed, private access to the patio and hot tub through its lovely French-style glass doors, a sitting area, and a private bathroom. We feel that this main-level bedroom is more appropriate for adults. The other two bedrooms and den are located on the third floor of the residence. We have placed a pull-out couch in the den. As with our other VRBO residences, the guest bedroom is a bunk room with a queen bed and a single over twin bunk bed. The main Master suite is also located on the third floor with a King bed, sitting area, dual head shower, large soaking tub, and dual sinks.

Notes:
Do not miss having at least one lunch at the upscale ski-in restaurant/bar located on the mountain...a bit expensive but oh so worth it! Our meadow place is upscale, spacious, a nice place to hang...not ornate but comfortable and comforting. When I ride a lift and talk with folks who live on the mountain in ski-in/ski-out residences I ask them where they eat out for dinner and recreate and they never say anyplace on the mountain; they always drive to the meadow to recreate in bars or restaurants and after they have had a few drinks they must wind back home up a rather dicey mountain road. I think ski-in-ski-out is the ultimate in convenience for skiing but almost nothing else is convenient to ski-in/ski-out locations plus the mountain village is colder in the summer and 2,000 feet higher in altitude than the meadow. Come live in the meadow where the non-downhill skiing recreation lives, where you can walk to and from entertainments of all types! We are biased I must admit!
