Riverstone Ranch House Located In The Beautiful North Animas River Valley

This beautifully restored 1880's Ranch House is located on 2 acres in the scenic Animas River Valley. Once a hay ranch, the property is lush with 100+ year old trees, ponds, and brooks. The 2000 square foot Ranch House is just one of several river rock structures on the property and neighbors the RiverStone Cottage, Carriage House, and Barn.

The three bedroom, two bathroom Ranch House includes hardwood floors, stone fireplaces, a sunroom, and fully equipped kitchen and laundry. The home sleeps six people, with two queen beds and two twin beds, and has three televisions, telephone, and internet service.

You won't want to be inside though with a large patio and fireplace just outside the back door. From the patio, enjoy a babbling brook which meanders through the property most of the year. A lounging area complete with fire-pit, water features, and a beverage center beckon from out behind the barn. View the wildlife that saunter through the property including deer, elk, wild turkey, ducks, geese, and the occasional bear. Whether you prefer gathering around a fire or snuggling inside with a book, serenity abounds.

Once you've had all the relaxation you can take, choose from among the many activities the surrounding area has to offer. Play a round of golf at Dalton Ranch just a few miles up the road, then recharge with drinks and dining at Dalton's clubhouse. Durango is just fifteen minutes from the Ranchhouse. Enjoy shopping downtown or, if you're a train enthusiast, hop the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train, which can be seen from the RiverStone Ranch property chugging along the mountain side on its way to Silverton. If you're staying with us in the summer, hike the many trails the area has to offer or raft the Animas River. If you're.a biking enthusiast; the Ranch House sits on the most popular biking loop in the Durango area. If you're staying with us in the winter, Purgatory Ski Resort is 15 miles north. On your way back to the Ranch House from a long day of skiing or snowboarding, stop by Trimble Hot Springs for a relaxing dip.

We know you will love our property as much as we do. We are on site in the Carriage House and Cottage and are happy to assist to ensure your stay is enjoyable. A Simply Stunning Property

This one gets five out of five stars in all categories. Over the years we have rented many VRBOs and this is by far and away the finest.. The northern Animas Valley is a gorgeous area and this very special property sits beautifully in its setting wth creek running through and the Animas River a short walk away. The historic architecture of the several buildings on the property has been artfully and lovingly updated in classic and timeless cottage style. The exceptionally generous owner/hosts, Dondi and John, who live on the property, have seen to every detail for their guests' comfort and full enjoyment in every aspect of staying there. Durango is a great town with so much to do but you may very well never want to leave this property. This is an outstanding experience at a reasonable price that you will not easily forget.

A completely peaceful and beautiful place to stay and make memories. Loved that it was in between Durango and Pergatory ski resort. We hope to return and experience the summer season at this place!

Sheer perfection, attention to every detail.

It's great being John and Dondi's guest. They can't do enough for their guests, everything from bringing wood and lighting glorious cedar wood fires to supplying Thanksgiving holiday table decor. Lux linens and products. Perfectly equipped kitchen for foodies. Simply a most charming stay.

Treasure is found in Durango

In the scenic and desirable upper west side of the Animas Valley is a beautiful historic treasure decorated impeccably. Dondi and John have created a wonderful retreat that is clearly a work of love for the property and for the people who visit. The home’s interior is contemporary classic, charming and immaculate. It is appointed well with everything needed (we had brought knives and other utensils from home which were not needed since it is so well equipped). The home lives larger than shown in the photos. It is very spacious and comfortable for family living.

The patio with its babbling brook, hammocks, Adirondack chairs and shade trees is peaceful and enchanting. We regularly prepared our meals on the grill and ate in the early evening before relaxing next to the fireplace enjoying John’s never ending supply of firewood. Our 19-year old daughter had never been around outdoor fires and couldn’t wait to start and tend the fire each evening. We had left intense heat in Texas and it was great to enjoy cool July evenings. It was also fun to take the short walk through the property to the Animas river and to hear and watch the trains pass by on the mountainside each morning. The trains were just loud enough to hear without being obtrusive and looked like toys as they traveled up steep grades on their journey.

It is very special to experience Dondi’s and John’s care for their guests. Dondi was waiting for us on the patio when we arrived and explained all about the house and was very interested in us and what we planned to do for our week there. She lives next door in the cottage and John has his bachelor pad in a renovated carriage house. John is always nearby taking care of the farm or working on classic cars in his posh garage. He regularly stopped by to ask if we needed anything. Several evenings we all enjoyed wine together on the patio.

We regularly use VRBO and this ranked at the top of our best experiences. We look forward to coming again at different seasons – October and May in particular. There are not enough words to describe this special place and the gracious hosts. Indoors, outdoors, the warmth of Dondi’s heart and John’s wit, it is a gem.

What a wonderful, magical week we had staying here! The house was beautiful, the property dreamy and the hosts gracious and delightful. They clearly take so much pride in every detail of the house and grounds which means an extraordinary experience for their guests. We loved our summer visit and can't wait to come back in the winter!!

We are located in the beautiful Animas Valley between Durango and Purgatory Ski Resort on a premier biking loop. We are fifteen minutes from Durango and twenty minutes from Purgatory. The area offers activities including skiing, hiking, biking, rafting, and jeeping. In Durango, board the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Train, a coal fired, steam powered train which winds through the San Juan National Forest to Silverton, Colorado, revealing majestic mountain views experienced by miners, cowboys and settlers of the old west over a century ago. Visit Mesa Verde National Park, about 45 minutes from Durango, and tour the cliff dwellings and archaeological sites of ancestral Puebloans who inhabited the area in 13th century.
