About the property

Riverstone Ranch House Located In The Beautiful North Animas River Valley

This beautifully restored 1880's Ranch House is located on 2 acres in the scenic Animas River Valley. Once a hay ranch, the property is lush with 100+ year old trees, ponds, and brooks. The 2000 square foot Ranch House is just one of several river rock structures on the property and neighbors the RiverStone Cottage, Carriage House, and Barn.

The three bedroom, two bathroom Ranch House includes hardwood floors, stone fireplaces, a sunroom, and fully equipped kitchen and laundry. The home sleeps six people, with two queen beds and two twin beds, and has three televisions, telephone, and internet service.

You won't want to be inside though with a large patio and fireplace just outside the back door. From the patio, enjoy a babbling brook which meanders through the property most of the year. A lounging area complete with fire-pit, water features, and a beverage center beckon from out behind the barn. View the wildlife that saunter through the property including deer, elk, wild turkey, ducks, geese, and the occasional bear. Whether you prefer gathering around a fire or snuggling inside with a book, serenity abounds.

Once you've had all the relaxation you can take, choose from among the many activities the surrounding area has to offer. Play a round of golf at Dalton Ranch just a few miles up the road, then recharge with drinks and dining at Dalton's clubhouse. Durango is just fifteen minutes from the Ranchhouse. Enjoy shopping downtown or, if you're a train enthusiast, hop the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train, which can be seen from the RiverStone Ranch property chugging along the mountain side on its way to Silverton. If you're staying with us in the summer, hike the many trails the area has to offer or raft the Animas River. If you're.a biking enthusiast; the Ranch House sits on the most popular biking loop in the Durango area. If you're staying with us in the winter, Purgatory Ski Resort is 15 miles north. On your way back to the Ranch House from a long day of skiing or snowboarding, stop by Trimble Hot Springs for a relaxing dip.

We know you will love our property as much as we do. We are on site in the Carriage House and Cottage and are happy to assist to ensure your stay is enjoyable. No pets or smoking is allowed on the property. Due to the many water features, the property may not be suitable for young children. Contact us to inquire further.

Best experience ever! Loads of vintage charm with all the modern conveniences!

  • 5 of 5

This place was absolutely delightful. It was so nice to eat in the breakfast nook as the sun was rising and watch the hummingbirds feed and the bicycles go by, and to eat dinner on the patio and watch the sunset over the mountains. We spent hours just relaxing in the hammock next to the babbling brook after our excursions while dinner was cooking, and enjoyed cooking s’mores in the outdoor fireplace. The grounds were simply amazing with lush grass, several ponds and a waterfall, and a short stroll to the Animas River. Dondi even had put fresh cut flowers from the garden on the dining table. Such a nice touch! The kitchen was extremely well stocked with high-end dishes, glasses, pan, griddles, and tools, and they had every spice I needed including cinnamon for my French toast. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer or more relaxing place to spend our last week of Summer! John and Dondi were wonderful hosts, and it was obvious that they loved the place as much as we did. We hope to be able to come back often as we visit my grown son who now lives in Durango.

Had a great time I just wish the river was running higher and we could have fished on the property. John and dondi were great and offered help whenever we needed it.

Gorgeous and quaint property.

  • 5 of 5

River Stone Ranch is a gorgeous remote property between Durango and Purgatory ski resort. The ranch house was built in the 1880's but everything has been updated in quaint Magnolia Living style decor. Every touch was well thought out from the extra toilitries in case you forgot to all our names written on a chalkboard in the kitchen welcoming us. The wood burning fireplace and fully equipped kitchen were amazing. We stayed over New Years and the cottage was decorated for Christmas which made the stay even more enjoyable. The owners John and Dondi are true gems. They were super friendly, courteous and helped us with building fires and even got some cold medicine for my son who started feeling a bit sick the first full day we were there. I can't say enough good things about the property and the owners, I highly recommend this property. We will definitely be back! Thank you for your hospitality John & Dondi!

Amazing piece of Heaven.

  • 5 of 5

The week we stayed was more than we could have asked for. The grounds are beautiful, you need at least a few days to just enjoy them. The home is so comfortable, first class furnishings and decor, we wanted for nothing. The location is perfect, close enough to Durango, but out in the valley. The host were amazing, not intrusive, but always there when needed. The many fires in the outdoor fireplace were perfect, coffee every morning out by the fire will be missed greatly. We cannot wait to return.

River Stone Ranch is an absolute treasure!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at River Stone Ranch from July 5-9th, 2017 and absolutely fell in love from the minute we arrived. Dondi was waiting for us when we arrived and showed us around. The house was so warm and inviting and looked like it could have been featured on HGTV!! The grounds are beautiful and peaceful with the sound of the stream right next to the cozy patio and fireplace. John was so thoughtful and started a fire for us every night. He also hosted a wine and cheese lunch and showed us the cars he has restored. He even let us drive his '57 T-Bird!! We were a little worried we had been a little loud one night, but Dondi and John both said they loved hearing us having a good time on the patio. Thank you for such a wonderful visit. We hope to see you again soon!

Lovely getaway

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our vacation in this lovely home! The back yard with its babbling brook was so beautiful and peaceful. The home was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. There were even fresh flowers on the table and a basket with all the fixings for s'mores! Everything that one might possibly need was on hand. John and Dondi were very warm and welcoming, and were on hand if needed. They were very interesting and engaging, and willing to chat and show off their lovely place, but were not intrusive in any way if privacy is what you seek. All in all, a wonderful experience!
