This suite is so sweet! I love the space that has been created. I can see this for a couple's get away. Or, with your favorite friend to relax and soak up the island life. It is located 2.5 miles out of town, just enough to feel what it is like to live on this island. From here you can take day road trips by car or bike around the whole island. Down Madden Lane from the house you can visit the local cemetery which is lovely to walk through during the golden hour of the evening. I feel the scenery reminds me a lot of Ireland. The sunrises are incredible! I have provided everything I can think of to make your stay enjoyable, and if not, please let me know because I want you to fully enjoy yourself! Unplug and experience San Juan Island!
Feel free to talk with me about special places, hikes, beaches to visit and places to eat. You are welcome to use the bar-b-que and deck.
I recycle and do not use chemicals on my property.
I am a people person. I love entertaining and making people comfortable and enjoy life.
I have two beautiful daughters that I love so much. They are grown and on their own. They have chosen partners that add to their lives which I could not ask for more because they are so happy.
I had a full career as owner and manager of Moka Joe Coffee. You might find me roasting small batches in my garage. I am proud of this company that we created. It is now thriving as a company that continues to give back to communities they get their coffee from and the communities that buy it. It is now in Anacortes, Wa owned by The Mendum Family.
I live as sustainably and environmentally friendly as I possibly can. Less is More!
Trudy Scherting purchased this studio in 2014
I bought this house as my healing home. I lost my husband to cancer in 2012, this island is where we both were going to retire. I sold everything and my life changed as I knew it. I came to San Juan as I had heard for years, this is a healing place. It is absolutely true. After loosing my husband, selling my business, loosing my mother. . . . . I got breast cancer as soon as I moved here. I have gone through treatment involving lumpectomy, chemotherapy, radiation and am now where I am supposed to be at the right time. This property gave me hope for a new future.
My home is an adorable cottage built in 1935. I added the suite to supplement my income as this island is a tourist island and the population that visits would surely help support my rental. I live a life of gratitude and am grateful that you will come visit and feel the same simple life. Less is More! The beauty that surrounds me here sustains me spiritually. Life is good! I am proof that you can live through devastating events and start life again.
I think the unique benefits of this property is that you can immediately feel what it is like to live on this island. You are in a private suite surrounded by beautiful views with easy access to the whole island. The suite is in light green color and changes colors throughout the day to match the sunlight. Colors surrounding the rooms change from light green to grey to blue to white. You literally could sit on the couch and watch the day change around you with all the atmosphere changes. Mesmerizing!
The most incredible views of the stars and sky from the couch or the deck!
Two of my friends and I stayed here while our friend got married at Roche Harbor (which was about a 20 minute drive.) It was our first time going to San Juan Island, so we didn't know what to expect. We were surprised at how close this rental was to downtown Friday Harbor (which we all fell in love with.)
The rental itself was a little paradise. Incredibly adorable, and affordable! We really enjoyed looking at the views from the windows, as well as taking photos in the backyard (when we were all dressed up for the wedding). The bathtub outside was a fantastic prop! :)
I highly recommend this rental to anyone who wants to get away for a weekend to relax (or if you're stuck having to go to a wedding). I would definitely stay there again.
Trudy's cottage was perfect for our trip to Friday Harbor. It was adorable, cozy, and had everything we needed to cook a nice dinner. And the view was spectacular! I'd definitely stay here again.
We stayed in this suite for two nights (a Saturday and Sunday). Trudy made finding the suite and "checking in" simple and easy. The suite was very clean and much larger than we anticipated. The first evening we were greeted by two deer in the field nearby!
The suite was located a quick five minute drive from Frday Harbor and was much larger than we anticipated. Trudy provided wonderful recommendations for places to eat in town as well. We even brought dinner back one night to enjoy the view from the suite overlooking the ocean.
The next time we stay on San Juan, we will definitely start by looking at this suite!
We really enjoyed the studio. It was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. The view is lovely throughout the day as the light changes. It is a very laid back, peaceful environment. Highly recommend and will definitely return. Close enough to town to enjoy but feels like the country as well.
We had a wonderful time visiting Friday Harbor for the first time. This property was just outside of town. I loved taking a run down Cattle Point Road and enjoyed the beautiful sunset, dear, and church bells singing. It was so lovely. Thank you for a great get-a-way!
The property was great, overall our stay was extremely pleasant. There was plenty of space throughout the house, not including the massive background which held incredibly delicious plums! On 2 separate occasions we were visited by a family of deer....that was definitely a sight! The only downside was the lack of air conditioning. My husband and I visited on a pretty hot weekend and although we left the fans on overnight as well as the windows open, the relief was only slight.
Trudy was always available and answered any questions we may have had. She gave great restaurant recommendations, especially for tacos that we wouldn't been extremely saddened had we missed them. Seriously, try Tia's Tacos, they're amazing!!!
The most amazing thing about Trudy was that she remembered we were traveling for my husband's 40th birthday (I had mentioned it when making the initial request). We arrived to find the fridge holding his favorite beer (Guinness) and a massive birthday sign above the bed. The extra personal touch was sincere and extremely appreciated. We felt very welcomed by Trudy.
Car drives or bike rides all over the island are so beautiful, especially at the golden hour before sunset. It is magic to see the colors come out just before the sun sets!
