A Modern, Lakefront Cabin In A Rustic Setting Outside Of Glacier National Park

Bedrooms 2
Space 480 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 1 - 3 nights

About the property

2 Bedroom Lakefront Cabin With Incredible Mountain Views

Our cabin sits nestled in a grove of aspen trees by a pond. It is our little haven of serenity, where we retreat to when the rest of the world gets too crazy. Often, the only sounds we hear are the leaves rustling in the breeze and the bird calls from the pond behind us and Duck Lake. Sometimes the crackling of the fire on the crisp evening air keeps us company as we sit around the fire and relax from the day’s activities.

It is a modern cabin, with all the amenities you will need, in a rustic setting. Behind the cabin we have a brick fire pit, a barbecue and a picnic table. A few yards further there is a beautiful pond, with all kinds of water fowl. Moose, deer and even bears have been seen drinking and enjoying a dip in this pond. Behind the pond is a fantastic view of the mountains of Glacier National Park and Chief Mountain, a magnificent mountain peak, sacred to many of the native American tribes of the area.

The view from the front of the cabin is of our field, fenced in with rustic A-frame style fencing. Often you can see free range horses wandering past. Beyond this is the dirt “road” and just a little bit further again, is Duck Lake – reputably the best fishing lake in Montana. The cabin has an official easement to Duck Lake for easy fishing access.

Inside the cabin are two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a living/dining area. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed and the guest bedroom has two twin beds. The kitchen has all the cookware you will need to prepare and serve your meals. There is no oven however, so bring your own cakes and cookies! The bathroom has a shower, a sink and a toilet. The living/dining area is quite large, with a table that seats 6 and a wicker couch, chair and coffee table. There is an electric wall heater and also a cute gas fireplace, which puts out a considerable amount of heat while providing a rustic and comfortable atmosphere. There are some games and books on the shelves to entertain you if it is rainy outside.

The cabin is perfectly situated about half way between two of the entrances to Glacier National Park – St. Mary and Many Glacier. It is wonderful to be so close to Glacier National Park; after a long day of Park activities, you are only minutes away from being home. From here you can enjoy hiking, sightseeing, animal spotting, birdwatching, or any of the many activities available while in the breathtakingly scenic Glacier National Park. We have also enjoyed inner tubing, horse riding, mountain climbing, cycling and canoeing from our cabin too. There is much more to do than you can ever achieve in just one visit.

We bought this cabin when our children were little. It was small, manageable, clean and just perfect for our family of four to get away from it all on the weekends. The property was big and full of adventures, even just within the fenced area. There was so much more to discover on the long walks we would take through the rolling hills just beyond the cabin – lakes, streams of spawning fish, fields of flowers, animals. We had such a great time just staying on or around the property. And then there were the adventures waiting for us in Glacier National Park. We hiked scenic trails, climbed to the top of mountain peaks, picked mountain huckleberries, took boat rides across lakes. St. Mary and Babb were close and we could dine out if we didn’t feel like cooking, or get ice cream cones or go swimming or tubing in the St. Mary River.

Now our boys have grown up and we don’t get to the cabin much anymore. For a few years now, it has been unoccupied for long spells of time so we have decided to rent it to visitors and to share some of its magic. It is small, clean and perfectly self-contained and ready to welcome others, as it has done for our family for many years.

There is so much to discover in this special area of Montana. It is rugged, beautiful, and spiritual. I think you’ll agree with me when you get here.

About Sally Welder

Terry and I met at St. Mary in Glacier Park. I am the youngest daughter of the Black family that founded St. Mary Lodge and Resort. Terry came as a guest of my brother, Lucky, and immediately felt at home in Glacier Park and the St. Mary valley. We celebrated our wedding at the St. Mary Lodge and said our vows on the St. Mary River 40 years ago. Our love for and connection to St. Mary runs deep.

We own and manage The Cottages at Glacier, located in St. Mary, and have re this Duck Lake property for three years, which is owned by a family friend. It is a wonderful property and we are happy to have taken it under our management.

We know the hiking and camping well in and around Glacier and will be happy to suggest some of our favorite trails to guests. If you are in search of a great place to fish, a fantastic day hike with astonishing views, or even the best huckleberry patch around, we will be glad to share our favorite spots.

Why Sally Welder chose Babb

This property is located in an incredibly beautiful and scenic area of Babb, Montana. Ideally situated on Duck Lake, it offers incredible wildlife viewing, some of the best fishing in Montana, and more adventures than can be had in one visit. We know you will love this little haven of serenity as much as we do.

Cute cabin perfect for Glacier NP adventure

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the cabin. It was a great location for spending time in Many Glacier section of GNP. We hiked from morning until night so were there mainly to shower, eat and sleep. It was fun in the morning to be greeted by the cattle from the Indian Reservation. We wish we would have had the opportunity to bring groceries with us as there are few places to buy any other than Browning an hour away. Sally and Terry are great!!

Very Nice

  • 5 of 5

Excellent place to relax and enjoy the rural Montana countryside. The proximity to Glacier Park is perfect. Far enough away to feel isolated, and close enough to spend any part of the day in the park.

not the best....

  • 1 of 5

We stayed here Sept 2016. The location was good for what we needed to do, but the road getting here was terrible - big pits (slow going) and the houses around us were not in the greatest of shape. The surrounding scenery was breathtaking. The owners are sweet people and helpful. The biggest problems we had were that there is no comfortable furniture, just wicker chair set and second, there was a huge mouse problem. We had to wash everything before we could use it and then wash it again after we were done. The kitchen situation was adequate, but not nice. It was a warm and safe environment and we were glad to have it, but we would not pick this rental location again.

Owner's Response: We wish we could have the opportunity to discuss your difficulties while you were with us. We are in the wilderness and do have the occasional little Mickie Mouse come inside - especially if guests do not keep screen doors firmly closed. I see that you wrote this a year after your stay. I don't think we had any problems with mice in summer of 2017. We wish you would come again and give us a second try!

The cabin is adorable and peaceful. We spend a lot of time in Many Glacier and this cabin was a perfect distance. Our view was beautiful. We really enjoyed it and would stay there again.
