House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, 1 Half Baths, Sleeps 8
Relax by the lake in this charming three-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bathroom, pet-friendly Lake Champlain vacation rental with great amenities like a huge yard, a fishing dock, and enough space for up to eight guests and your dogs!
Located on 150 feet of picturesque shoreline on South Hero Island in Keeler's Bay, this lake house is perfect for a relaxing weekend or an extended stay spent communing with nature on both land and water. Bring your poles and tackle, then head down to the home's very own dock to cast for over 80 species of fish that live in the cold waters of Lake Champlain.
This authentic Vermont lakeside camp is a rustic house with an updated interior featuring exposed wooden beams, custom furnishings, and large picture windows. During colder days, sit in the living room's rocking chair to read a book from the home's small library, or gather your group to snuggle together on the comfy couch while watching a DVD movie on the flatscreen television. You'll find plenty of space to spread out, relax, and enjoy picturesque lakeside views in this room.
Adjacent to the living room is a well-stocked kitchen with everything necessary to whip up a great meal, along with ample counter space to lay out ingredients. Plus, modern appliances - a microwave, a stove, and an oven - make meal preparation and cleanup easy. When the food is ready, sit at the nearby dining table, which will accommodate up to 8 hungry people. Just outside, there's also a waterfront deck with a table for dining al fresco on hot summer days.
Retire home at the end of a full day of lakeside activities to get restful sleep in any of the home's three bedrooms, which will accommodate up to eight, including the living room's sofabed. Sleeping options include a queen-size bed in one room, a set of twin bunk beds in another, and a bunk bed (twin over full) with an additional twin bed in the third room. Each room is simplistically furnished with reading lamps, minimal decor, and picture windows. These rooms have a zen-like quality in their simplicity and will no doubt be places of deep, restorative slumber.
Extending over 20 feet into the lake, the dock is great place to land a trophy fish. You may decide to have your adventures on land - that's fine, too! The area offers myriad activities from wine-tasting at Snow Farm Vineyard & Winery (just three and a half miles southwest) to apple-picking at Hackett's Orchard (two miles south), and scenic drives on country roads for beautiful fall foliage viewing September through November.
South Hero has many great dining options, but you could also head over to the mainland and catch a Long Trail Ale or a Magic Hat #9 beer in Burlington, which is just 20 miles southeast and home to music venues, boutique shops, and eclectic restaurants - including over 10 breweries. Also of note is the abundance of great hiking trails and pristine lakeside woodlands in the area. Go five miles north or the same distance southeast to find Grand Isle State Park and Sand Bar State Park, respectively; both areas offer beautiful features such as sandy beaches, dense maple and oak forests, and scenic trails.
Book this pet-friendly Vermont vacation cottage today for a fun-filled New England getaway!
(Please note: This home is on a lake water system and you'll need to bring your own drinking water. Guests must sign swimming waiver, and should take care that the railing on the upper bedroom level may not be suitable for small children. Thank you!)

About Vacasa, VT - Lake Champlain Islands Office
Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.

Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.

Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!

had a very comfortable stay
loved the house and ease to lake.
Only good quality is the view, but it is still not worth the stay
First of all, it should be made much more clear that you cannot drink the water in this home. You can shower with it, but it smells like lake water.
Second, the second level of the home has no safety railings. The 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom are in one line and the 'hall' in front of them only has one rail going horizontally across. There are no vertical rails to prevent a fall. Even the adults in our group felt nervous, but worse, we had children in this home (3 kids under 3) and it was completely unsafe. This should be remedied, or at very least disclosed before renting. It was the same situation on the back deck of the home, so we couldn't enjoy the back deck with the little ones either.
Third, the inside needs major renovations. The bathrooms smell strongly of mold and the furnishing were so old and dusty that several in our party had allergies flare up.
Fourth, the keys to get in barely worked, making it a hassle to get in and out each day.
We are sorry to see these guests felt unsafe with the railings as they are. The back deck did get an extra rail this year, and it hasn't been a problem for most of our guests. We will work on including additional pictures so guests can better see what it looks like. The original keys for the home have been returned so it should be much easier for guests to enter the home, and we will check for mold. Thanks!
Perfect Lake Retreat for Our Family
My four year old niece has decided this is her "favorite hotel." The dock was nice and relaxing. The views from the deck at sunset were unparalleled. I couldn't have asked for a better weekend away. I would highly recommend Gone Fishing (and have already). A word of caution, though, that the very young, the very old, and the spatially unaware (such as myself) should watch their steps. The house has a couple of spots where there are unexpected steps or where one step is taller than the ones around it. I managed to stub my toes on all of them. Just be cautious and enjoy your stay!
Perfect lake getaway for our family
The house was perfect for our long weekend away - my four year old niece insists it is her "favorite hotel." We found the house to be perfectly appointed and didn't want for anything. The dock was an amazing place to have a cup of coffee in the morning and watch the water. The collection of vintage board games and puzzles kept the kids entertained. As a word of caution, there are a few spots that might be a bit treacherous for small kids or older people - I managed to stub my toes on literally every spot there was. Steps are varying heights and there are unexpected steps in some spots. Just be aware. My only complaint about the entire experience was that we had some prior guests show up without notice - they were weird and a bit rude and I would have appreciated some notice about their visit. I highly recommend Gone Fishing and have recommended it to friends and family already.
Very funky and cozy vintage space.
This is an older house with a really neat history. The lake water system takes some getting used to, but it's easy to manage. If you have very small children, this could be a challenging location. It's clean and if you cook, there is basically anything you need.
Vintage and funky, but very cozy
We are a big family of 6 and there was definitely enough room. The house is very interesting. We liked the history and the location. It's a lake house and older, so it was a little musty. The lake water system took a little getting used to but overall we enjoyed our stay.
