1890's farmhouse with 3 bd/1 ba and a guest bedroom (bedroom only). Thoughtfully appointed, perfect for a family of 4 or more. One downstairs master bedroom with queen bed. Two upstairs bedrooms, one with twin beds (great for youngsters), and another guest queen bedroom (perfect for guests or an older child). There is even a bunk house (queen bed only), that sits 20 yds away from the house in the woods (ideal for visitors). 2 acre property, so privacy and seclusion abound. Cute cottage; great location
Great location-20 minutes from everything we wanted to see or do in Acadia NP. Super cute, cabin-y interior. Stairs are REALLY steep to upstairs bedrooms. Also, the little cottage in the woods was cute, but not clean. I did a quick vacuum of dust and mice leavings and my 16 yr old was fine. Fortunately, he is used to that closed up cabin smell and was fine roughing it. Owner was super responsive about internet issue. I would definitely go back. Kitchen was well equipped. When we weren’t eating lobster, we cooked at home. Long Pond is also just 5 minutes away and has a small public swim area that was great for a quick dip before cocktail hour on the front deck. Had some epic monopoly games as well.
Fabulous holiday cottage
We stayed here with our 2 young boys (6 and 7 yrs) and had a marvellous holiday in Acadia. The cottage location on the quieter side of Mount Desert was perfect being very close to the main attractions of Acadia (i.e Bar Harbour) and also having some wonderful things to do on our doorstep (e.g Beech Mountain, Somes Meynell Wildlife sanctuary, kayaking...). The cottage itself is an old rustic cottage with a lot of charm so if you are looking for somewhere pristine/spic and span this might not be right for you. We loved that it was extremely comfortable and so well equipped with nice beds, linen and towels. The children loved the board games and the wooden playhouse in the garden which they made their secret hideout! Family evenings were spent playing board games in the lovely , bright , stylish living room or relaxing and eating meals on the garden deck. The only thing I felt needed some improvement were the 2 bedrooms upstairs which in contrast to the downstairs, needed some more love and attention. Because the children only slept upstairs this didn't bother us too much! The owner called to check in with us on our first day and was super friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this charming and cozy cottage as being a fantastic place to spend a family holiday .
Lovely time on Mt. Desert!!
Our rental home was truly a unique 1898 house! If you're looking for a big kitchen, modern conveniences, granite countertops, this is not the place. But, if you like a quiet, rustic home to enjoy your vacation in, this may be the place for you! Somesville is a lovely little village with welcoming people. We even went to a community supper at a local church and were welcomed with open arms. Right down the road from us was an organic farm run by the College of the Atlantic students, there was a mountain trail to explore at the end of the road. The owner was very quick to respond to questions and even offered his vehicles for our use. An apple tree full of small apples provided food for several deer who visited the back yard, as well as providing apples for homemade applesauce for our breakfasts. The house was stocked with games and books, as well as a very nice gas grill on the deck. Had a nice TV and good internet. Quite a number of the owner's items were in the home. Be aware that the two upstairs bedrooms are reached with very narrow, low-ceiling, shallow steps that would probably not be suitable for elderly or handicapped. Downstairs bedroom is spacious. Although there is no closet in the room, there is a roomy armoire in the family room suitable for hanging clothes.
House with a Super Convenient Location & Many Great Features
We loved our stay and found that the location near Somesville was very convenient. We took advantage of the super easy access to Beech Hill Organic Farm, the Somesville Church Wednesday pie sale (we can recommend the crab quiche and blueberry pie), and National Park kayak rental. The house was very comfortable; the deck was just right for grilling and for our lobster feast. The kitchen is a little small, and the single bathroom for 5 adults was busy! at times, but we managed just fine. The 3 deer who came to eat the apples in the back yard added charm. This house is on the "quiet" side of Mt Desert Island, but it's easy to take the bus or drive to the park. I recommend it!
Home and Garden are Worth It !
This rental home was a real vacation for us. It is so private and lovely that we spent long mornings there before hiking and then "stayed home" after the daily activity. We cracked and ate steamed lobsters on the deck five nights in a row! along with accompaniments my husband made. Give my husband a nice kitchen and an outdoors for happy hour and he's in! And the moss garden in the woods was like nothing I could have imagined. I had to traipse through every day; and there was a hammock waiting for me at the apex that was so perfect to be alone in. Everything works great for a rustic house: immediate hot water, large HDTV, kitchen appliances, bedroom fan. We didn't utilize the outdoor grill, indoor wood stove, washer/dryer or upstairs bedrooms, but all were available and ready. It is central to all villages on the island and practically walkable to the Acadia Repertory Theater. The owner was only an email away for questions, didn't mind several emails and always got back to me immediately. We went to his restaurant recommendations on non-lobster nights: Side Street Cafe and Rosalie's Pizza (which we took back to our deck!) and loved them both. We would rent this Cozy House again.
