The open-plan, fully equipped kitchen, dining area and living room offers floor-to- ceiling windows to make the most of the stunning views. There is hardwood flooring throughout the house, with scattered Persian rugs and a Pacific Energy wood stove to warm up those cool Newfoundland evenings.
The house sits on the foundation of an 18 th. century fortification. This was also the sight of the original Harbour Pilot House, which helped vessels navigate the narrow harbour opening. With the water lapping at the rocks below the deck, you get that relaxed seaside vibe, but downtown St.John's, with its lively bars, world-class restaurants and unique shops is only a 6-minute drive away. Feel like a walk ? The East Coast Hiking trail begins less than a thousand feet from the house. Or if you're in a mellow mood, just sit on the huge wrap-around deck and watch the ocean liners, small fishing boats and whales pass by, just a few feet away.
Magical views, the serenity of the open water and easy-going living is all at your fingertips in this dramatic setting. You won't be disappointed !

A Rejuvenating Getaway
This lovely home was the perfect base from which to explore St. John's, and the beautiful views and peaceful setting fed my soul. Robert and Eva were communicative, helpful, and welcoming.
I arrived at midnight via cab and easily found the property and let myself in per Robert's instructions. After 12 hours of travel I was delighted to find Robert and Eva had left me a bottle of Quidi Vidi Iceberg beer! Eva checked in the next morning to make sure everything was going smoothly but left a note that said I could call her upon my late arrival if I needed anything.
The house is charming and cozy, with warm wood and nautical decor everywhere. The cliff views and the ship watching were amazing. The November weather was beautiful (I like the cold) and I was able to sit outside bundled up and watch the ships go in and out of the harbor, even late at night. One night I arrived "home" at twilight as the moon rose over the ocean--absolutely breathtaking. On a more prosaic note, it was great to have fast, easy wireless in the house so I could use the Web to plan activities and download e-books. I never did get to the East Coast Trail, but there is a trailhead a minute's walk from the house.
The drive into the city is under 10 minutes and the city is delightful. Quidi Vidi is especially beautiful, and the Mallard Cottage dining experience there was fantastic, as was the tour followed by the kitchen party at Quidi Vidi Brewery. I also enjoyed dinner at the Vinyl Room, music and dancing at O'Reilly's on George Street, and The Rooms Museum. Broken Books and Fixed Coffee and Baking were another highlight. Everyone I met in St. John's was friendly, chatty, and kind, including my neighbors
One note to US travelers who have combo credit/debit cards--none of the airport rental car agencies would honor my reservation as their system would not recognize my card as a credit card. Luckily Centsible Rentals on Topsail Road in Mt. Pearl was able to rent me a car (although I had to put down a large deposit).
The 5 days I spent at this house were so peaceful and pleasant. I returned so rejuvenated that six weeks later I still feel lighter and happier. I hope to come back in the summer to see the whales and the icebergs! Thanks to Robert and Eva for everything!
Really is the best view in St. John's
Excellent views, comfortable property at a convenient and quiet distance (5 min drive) from the city centre. Highly recommended, would love to visit again!
A healing place!
Just coming in the door brought a wonderful feeling of peace. Every time. I did not have a car during my stay there and enjoyed the walk into town. I also used taxis and had a pizza delivered, all with no difficulty whatsoever. The taxi to downtown is quite affordable. I was able to do all sorts of creative work while there. It is a very quiet house. Had great sleeps in that seaward looking bed! I would strongly recommend this place.
We sat on the front deck and looking to the left we saw the colorful and historic city of St. John's. We looked straight ahead and saw the austere beauty of the rock face of Signal Hill. We looked right and saw the open Atlantic Ocean. We have stayed in many places but none have ever combined these three elements in such a harmonious way. Add to that the boat traffic and the easy access to the city and Harbor Point Cottage becomes a place that is unmatched. We think we may never find another place as entrancing as this. Thank you, Robert.
A little piece of heaven!!
We loved everything about this house on the Narrows in St. John's!!
From the gorgeous wraparound deck and ships with incredible views of St. John's in one Direction and the Atlantic Ocean and open seas in the other direction you can't beat this view. We could have sat and watch the ships go by for hours. We even saw a couple of whales.
The cottage was spotless and when we arrived there was even a bottle of wine to greet us and a nice letter of greeting. The house was very well-stocked with everything that you could possibly want in the kitchen. All you need is some groceries and you're good to go.
Each of the two bedrooms has sliding doors out to the beautiful deck as well as the living room. We even used the wood fireplace one night when it was cool and it works great.
Every day when we go out and aboat we always look forward to coming back to the house and in fact one day we never even left!
The sunsets are over St. John's and one of them was just breathtaking with no clouds at all. Even if it rained all week you'd probably be thrilled to stay here because when the fog horn blows just down the road in the fog rolls in that is a thrill in itself.
I highly highly recommend this fantastic house and we will most definitely be returning. My parents are already making plans to book for next year as they've seen the pictures and have been to St. John's in the past.
We have been to 30 countries and travelled extensively and stayed in houses and hotel rooms and this has to be one of the best places we have ever visited and here it was all this time in our own country. We loved Newfoundland and the friendly people and we even may retire here some day!
Thank you Robert and Eva for a most memorable stay!

Wonderful Gem! LJ, Lethbridge, Alberta
I loved staying at this quiet, cheerful and comfortable cottage and seeing wide open skies. The views from the windows and wrap around deck of the harbour were amazing--whale watching and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. Best VRBO rental ever! I have never received such attentive and prompt service as I did from Robert and Eva was very good at explaining the "working" of the cottage. I will highly recommend this cottage to my family and friends and I hope to return to see icebergs.
