There is hardwood flooring throughout the house, with scattered Persian rugs and a Pacific Energy wood stove to warm up those cool Newfoundland evenings.

The house sits on the foundation of an 18 th. century fortification. This was also the sight of the original Harbour Pilot House, which helped vessels navigate the narrow harbour opening. With the water lapping at the rocks below the deck, you get that relaxed seaside vibe, but downtown St.John's, with its lively bars, world-class restaurants and unique shops is only a 6-minute drive away. Feel like a walk ? The East Coast Hiking trail begins less than a thousand feet from the house. Or if you're in a mellow mood, just sit on the huge wrap-around deck and watch the ocean liners, small fishing boats and whales pass by, just a few feet away.

Magical views, the serenity of the open water and easy-going living is all at your fingertips in this dramatic setting. You won't be disappointed !

!!! Magical !!!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage, without a doubt, is in the best prime location in St. John's. With the wraparound deck, the large windows in every room - you feel totally captivated of the views of Signal Hill, St. John's Harbour, the Atlantic ocean and of course the ships and fishing boat traffic coming in and out. I gave my father for his 70th birthday this trip to Newfoundland - and he was beyond thrilled to visit The Rock. As this was my second time coming to Newfoundland - it was just as magical as the first time and had many new experiences. The Lighthouse Picnic in Ferryland - I totally recommend. O'Briens Whale/Iceberg/Puffin Boat Tour - wonderful !!! Seeing an iceberg that close - unbelievable ! Mallards Cottage for a fantastic meal - can totally see why they receive the accolades they do - the food was amazing. One morning, we woke up at 3:30, drove to Cape Spear to be the first ones in North America to see the sunrise. What an experience ! Every day was filled with a different excursion and trying different restaurants......and yes, the odd nap here and there with the sounds of the ocean to help you drift off. But truly, sitting on the deck of this cottage was probably the best part. Relaxing and soaking it all in - no words to describe. This cottage has everything you need. Upon arrival we had the nicest personalized card and some local beers left for us - what a nice touch ! The cottage was so clean and refreshing. The owner Robert, so easy to deal with - and very welcoming. I will be returning.

Adorable Cottage in an Postcard Perfect Location in St. John's Newfoundland

  • 5 of 5

Cutest cottage just before Historic Fort Amherst, unspoiled views of the city, Battery, Signal Hill, Narrows & Fort Amherst from the wrap around deck. The awesome picture windows throughout allowed you to be immersed in Newfoundland culture even in the nastiest weather right from the comfort of a chair by the wood stove. Find yourself a case from the local brewery who offer a great tasting & tour (Quidi Vidi 1892 was our fav) & order a pizza from Venice on Military Rd (they will deliver to the cottage for a small charge & have amazing hot wings & pizza.... $14 with Jiffy Cab to George Street). Weather your from the Rock or arriving for the first time, this stunning rental will have everything you need to enjoy your escape with the most unique view of the city you can find! On a side note if your there for the May 24 Monday when the 21 Gun Salute at Queens Battery takes place you will get a quite the show of the canons right from the deck! We will def be back :)

A PIECE OF HEAVEN!!!

  • 5 of 5

I spent 10 relaxing, fabulous days in this picturesque cottage. The place was immaculate and had everything needed for a complete vacation. The view cannot be described as it was so beautiful. I will be returning - I might even try it out in winner. I highly recommend this place - Robert was an absolute charm to deal with - made it all easy and welcoming!

You must stay here!

  • 5 of 5

If you have any thoughts of visiting St. John's, then you simply must choose this cottage to stay in. The cottage itself is so well-equiped, comfortable and immaculately clean. Virtually everything you need is here. It is such a wonderful place to come back to after a day of sightseeing. We can't even begin to describe the views. They are truly million dollar views. It was so enjoyable to just sit out on the deck with a coffee or tea and watch the ships/boats go by. Even the neighbourhood itself was fun to explore. Staying here was so much better than being in a boring, old hotel room. If we're ever lucky enough to come back to St. John's, this will be our first choice of accommodation. Robert (the owner) was very helpful, answers back quickly and clearly takes pride in his property. I can't say enough good things about our experience.

Unbeatable St. John's location!

  • 5 of 5

Harbour Pilot House is a well-equipped, comfortable, charming cottage with stunning panoramic views, a peaceful haven to return to from day excursions or evening dinners out. Interesting boat traffic often had me running for my camera. Quiet neighbourhood minutes from St. John's with private parking. Wraparound deck with views of Signal Hill, The Battery, and St. John's Harbour. Robert was very helpful with restaurant recommendations (best were Mallard Cottage and Merchant Tavern) and always responded to our questions promptly. Favourite memories: all-day trips to Trinity Bay and to Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve, as well as the spectacular Quidi Vidi "gut". Try Gracie Joe's in QV for great coffee and lunches. Highly recommend this little slice of heaven!

Awesome rental!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time in St Johns and our first VRBO experience and there were no disappointments. The owner made special efforts to ensure that everything about our stay was perfect. Instructions were very clear so that one would never have to call and ask questions about any aspect of our stay.

The location was simply the best and we had visitors from St Johns who were amazed that such a rental existed in their city.

We hope to return another time and will definitely make this our first choice for accommodations.
