There is also a pond that is easily accessed by kids of all ages. River fishing is catch and release fly fishing. When fishing in the pond you may choose your bait and keep the fish if you wish. A fire pit, picnic table and horseshoe pit are included to make your time on the river a wonderful time, indeed.
Spruce House is a beautifully furnished small two bedroom home with comfy sleeping for six. There is a gas fireplace for chilly Colorado mornings and evenings. We provide WiFi and a TV. There is a lovely covered porch, just perfect for hanging out time.
Spruce House is only 2 ½ miles from the amenities of downtown Pagosa Springs and just 20 miles from the summit of Wolf Creek Pass.
Trails and beauty abound wherever you choose to go; whether by foot or simply harnessing the horses of your vehicle for exploratory drives. Or just hang out at Spruce House, and enjoy the comforts of home, the incredible fly fishing and breathtaking views of Pagosa Peak.
We welcome your pet. We do ask an additional $10 per night per pet with a limit of two pets. Sorry, but we don’t accept pit bulls or puppies as guests.
We will provide lists of pet sitters and shops that rent fly fishing equipment.
*Please note: there is no smoking on the property.
We welcome you to our home on the river, and hope your Colorado vacation will be one of joy and beautiful memories to take home.

Wonderful owners and beautiful place!
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed this little cabin. We were looking for a place with convenience to Pagosa Springs but not in Pagosa. The grounds were kept really nice and the abundance of hummingbirds were a joy to watch while relaxing on the front porch with coffee. The peaceful river made cookouts and wading a fun afternoon activity. Tom and Gayle were extremely nice people and made us feel very at ease upon our arrival by showing us the property and answering any questions we had of the area. They were just a phone call away if we needed anything or had any questions. We really enjoyed our visits with Gayle and her extensive knowledge of the area. Thank you Tom and Gayle for sharing your beautiful place with us, it made the long awaited visit with our son and daughter-in-law that much more memorable!
Thank you, Mike! you were wonderful guests, and we enjoyed getting to know your beautiful family. You left our little cabin so neat and clean, and we appreciate that very much. It was indeed our pleasure to have you as guests at Spruce House.

Best week we've had as a family
Great week here enjoyed our stay. Great fly fishing spot on river. Had opportunity to see my son catch first trout on a fly line. Great experience. I would highly suggest staying here if you love fly fishing
Ben...it was truly our pleasure to have your family as guests at Spruce House.
The best part: the fish came out to play, and Caleb caught his first trout on a fly line. I know he was excited, you were excited, and we were too! You all were lovely guests. Thank you for being here.

VERY COMFORTABLE cabin on the San Juan River and relatively close to town. This was our first trip to Pagosa Springs and the owners were wonderful! Gayle and Tom gave us lots of advice on what to do/see while we were visiting -which was much appreciated! They had their lovely cabin perfectly equipped for preparing meals. We took advantage of the charcoal grill (complete with charcoal) and firewood/kindling for the fire pit (where we cooked a lovely early morning breakfast one day while enjoying the river). The front porch is incredibly inviting and a fabulous place to curl up with a book and a glass of wine at the end of the day, a place to eat your meals outdoors and/or to watch the hummingbirds. Another option is to take your refreshments and sit in a chair around the fire pit by the river. Heavenly!! The beds/pillows were super comfy and we loved sleeping with all the windows open. Lots of closet space for clothes/gear. Nice open living space. Internet was handy and television was available although we preferred being outside. Gayle added lovely little touches such as fresh flowers and fruit and both of them were nearby if anything was needed. We would highly recommend their home for anyone who enjoys the outdoors and wants a clean, cozy place to relax after a day of fun. Thanks so much for letting us be the first renters this year!! -- the Sorensen's and the Ferrell's!!
Thank you for the lovely review! We are so glad you enjoyed your visit with us. We're reminded once again what a privilege it is to share our cabin with guests who love this place as we do.

" WE WERE BACK "
Our first visit was so wonderful that we decided to make another trip to the Spruce House. After being Gayle and Tom's first guests at the Spruce House earlier this Summer we wanted to get back to Pagosa even sooner than we were able to. Once again they thought of everything to make this trip even better than the last, if that could be possible. This place is truly magical, from the deer in the yard to the numerous fly overs from the Geese teaching their broods to fly in formation. The peacefulness and privacy of the huge manicured area behind the house to making the short trek to the river where we never saw another sole. Did I mention the fishing in the San Jaun right on the property, even if I had not caught anything it would have been special. The Trout were fat and sassy, in fact the first one I caught fought so hard that I thought that I had snagged him. They were all beauties. What a place this is, from the house to the grounds to our hosts, it is so comfortable that it is a very special retreat indeed. We can't wait to get back again. The most heart felt thanks to Gayle and Tom for making the Spruce House available for our enjoyment.
Tim & Debbie and the furry girls
Tim, Debbie, and your beautiful girl Rottweilers: Your visit to Spruce House was truly OUR pleasure. I'm so glad the fish came out to play. And that the geese were practicing and the deer came by to say Hello.
I kno reviews don't work this way, but IF we could review our guests your family, complete with 2 big Rottweiler girls, would rank more stars than could be printed. I thought Spruce House was clean when you came. I believe it was cleaner when you left. And thank you for your beautiful words. They truly make our hearts happy.

Spruce House is a nice cabin along the river. We enjoyed how clean everything was. The private River area is great!
A Wonderful Getaway
My wife, young daughter, and I spent 4 nights at the Spruce House during our summer visit to Pagosa Springs. I actually find myself hoping others won't find out about this gem, because I worry it won't be available when we come back -- and WE WILL BE BACK! As soon as I made the reservation, Gayle contacted me to find out what activities we were interested in, and mailed us helpful information on the hot springs, hikes, and the Cumbres and Toltec Railway (an absolute must if you have the time!). Gayle and Tom met us at check-in and showed us around the gorgeous property. The cabin is cozy and well appointed, with attention to needs we didn't know we'd have -- such as charcoal for the grill, and fixings for s'mores. The porch swing was a hit, and was a nice place to unwind. The real plus for me, was the 1/2 mile of private river access. The fishing was UNBELIEVABLE! I was literally pulling in rainbow and brown trout with every other cast. In addition, there is a nice "beach" where our daughter was able to wade and play with some beach toys that Tom and Gayle had provided. The cabin is only minutes from town, but felt very secluded. Overall, I give the Spruce House my highest recommendation!
Dan, we are so glad that you and your family enjoyed your time at Spruce House. Thank you for your very kind words about your experience here.
We considered it a privilege to have your family as our guests. It's fun to share this place with folks like you who truly appreciate the magic that we love, too. We look forward to your return trip.

So many wonderful places to visit...Spruce House is only 2 miles from access to San Juan National Forest, where trails and rivers abound. Wemininuche Wilderness Area, as well as the South San Juan Wilderness area can be reached in an easy 30 minutes. Play in the East Fork or West Fork of the San Juan. On the East Fork you'll find Silver Falls and lots of trout. (Hit the down arrow and read on.) Spectacular! Explore Summitville, an old mining town within an hour's drive. Check out beautiful Alberta Lake, just below Wolf Creek Ski Area and a short 20 miles from your home at Spruce House. Spend a day enjoying a ride from Chama N..M. to Antonita CO on the Cumbres-Toltec Railroad, complete with gorgeous scenery and an old fashioned steam engine. If you're here at high water time (May-June) river rafting is a favorite. When the river waters recede to seasonal levels you can tube the San Juan for a wet and wild experience. Not too wild for kids 6 and up, or for some of us...60 and up. The possibilities for vacation adventure range from mild to wild, with something for everyone who enjoys the outdoors and the majestic mountains. And it's all easily accessed from your comfy cabin on the San Juan River.
