About Allison and Mark Walsh

We are a couple who reside in New Dundee Ontario who grew up and went to school in Toronto, Ontario. Our 2 children are now grown and independent. We look forward to sharing our home with you.

Allison and Mark Walsh purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Allison and Mark Walsh chose Prince Edward Island

Our family of 4, born and raised in Ontario, took a family vacation to Prince Edward Island in 2003 and that is when we fell in love with the island way of life. We have visited every summer since, until finally purchasing our summer cottage in 2012. The warm summer sands, the incredible views, access to live theatre and world class golfing are some of the main attractions which drew us there year after year. While our 2 children are grown up now, they still manage to visit their childhood summer destination every year. Be careful, you too might lose your heart to PEI, just like we did.

What makes this cottage unique

We fell in love with our home primarily because of its excellent location close to beaches, Greenwich National Park, St. Peter's Bay and the main towns of Souris and Montague with their many amenities. We have made our home a warm inviting place for family, friends and our guests who return to us year after year.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We really enjoyed the house. Thank you for renting it to us. We found everything we needed. We love the location.

Lovely house, wonderful service, perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

Prince Edward Island is a beautiful place, and Greenwich Gables is located in one of the most stunning parts of the Island. The house is just minutes away from the spectacular PEI National Park-Greenwich Unit in one direction and a quiet, family-friendly beach in the other. Rental includes use of the house bikes and a free park pass, which is very convenient. I wish we could have gone to the park and the beach every day.

PEI is surprisingly big, so we had to do a lot of driving--but Greenwich Gables is a good, central hub for day trips. At the end of the day, we'd come home tired and happy, cook a quick meal, and relax in the cozy sitting area. The inside of the house is nicely furnished and uncluttered--very tasteful yet unfussy. Upstairs, the layout of the den is a little odd (the doors and the open pullout bed conflict), but the beds are all comfortable. Downstairs, the kitchen is gorgeous and seems to be newly renovated. Coffee, spices, and even a bottle of wine were there when we arrived. I only wish there had been a dish rack for drying dishes. Wi-fi worked decently for such a remote location, but we did have some problems when trying to work over the slow connection. The lesson for us: Don't work on vacation!

Allison, the owner, was the perfect host--gracious, responsive, and responsible. She and Emily, the property manager, sent detailed and helpful emails before check-in. During the stay, Allison answered my questions about biking directions, etc., promptly and enthusiastically. After the stay, when I realized I forgot my laundry in the dryer, she and Emily made sure it got back to me.

Our stay on Prince Edward Island was one of our best vacations ever. Everyone in my family (my husband, my two sons, and I) loved the Island--and Greenwich Gables!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. Just thought I'd mention that we have noticed the slower than usual internet connection and have taken steps to correct this. We have purchased a signal boosting system, which has boosted signal strength and speeded up the connection as a result. Thanks for pointing this out. We have also purchased a dish dryer rack. An oversight on my part.

A clean and charming house with lots of space and amenities, located close to great beaches

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Greenwich Gables. We are a family of six, had no troubles arranging sleeping for everyone (doubling up kids in the double beds) and there was plenty of space for all in the open-concept living area. The cottage is comfortable and well-equipped, including full laundry facilities, a proper propane barbecue (including a reserve propane tank), and a new kitchen with everything we needed. All the windows are equipped with tight-fitting screens, so mosquitoes weren't a big problem. We have been to PEI before, and were specifically looking for something in this area. The location is ideal for a peaceful vacation - very quiet, little traffic, yet close to St. Peter's Bay and Morell for groceries and other shopping. There is a wonderful and largely empty beach nearby, Greenwich Park is about a 10 minutes drive away (the owner's provided a pass), and it's an easy day trip to the beach at Basin Head. Besides the beaches and hiking through Greenwich, a canoe trip on the Morell River (under the watchful eyes of several bald eagles) was a highlight. There's also a take-out restaurant (Lin's) less than five minutes drive away that makes great food and surprisingly was able to prepare a gluten-free meal to accommodate one of our daughters, who has celiac. Allison and Mark made everything about the trip easy - clear instructions, everything well organized, and no hassles. Thanks for a great stay - we'll be back!

The best week ever!

  • 5 of 5

This is by far the greatest vacation property we've ever stayed at. Like many previous reviews, Allison and Mark have thought of everything. It truly felt like our home away from home. We do plan on visiting PEI again and would stay here again! We had great weather and the beaches are fabulous. Being so close to Greewich National Park is also a huge bonus. We took our dogs there every day. It's wonderful that Allison and Mark provide the pass to access the park.

This was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations we've had. The only downside to it all, was that we had to pack up and leave.....until next time. Thank you so much Allison and Mark!

Comfortable and quiet

  • 5 of 5

Greenwich Gables is a very comfortable place to stay. It is well decorated and the kitchen area is wonderful. Everything you could need for cooking and cleaning is supplied, as well as extra blankets and towels. Having laundry on site was a definite bonus. There is no cable tv ( not that you need it) but on a rainy day it was nice to find a small DVDs collection. We were 2 adults travelling with a large dog and the property for running around and playing with him was a great size. I love that it was on a back road with little to no traffic and the property is tree lined for complete privacy. The beach down the road is beautiful and not busy. We had it all to ourselves a few times. Make sure you bring bug spray for the mosquitos if travelling in August. Thank you for a great stay!

A charming cottage experience that exceeded our expections

  • 5 of 5

Greenwich Gables was a terrific find for us. We are a family of 4 with two little kids and we wanted a place close to the beach. Greenwich Gables was exactly what we were looking for. It is only a 5 minute drive to Greenwich National Park which is one of the most spectacular beaches i have seen in Canada.

The charming cottage is very comfortable with all the amenities one would need. Our first impression once we stepped inside was of a tastefully designed home that evokes the feeling of an Anne-of-Green-Gables cottage appointed with charming rustic furniture. And the modern kitchen did not disappoint.

The cottage location is also an easy drive to St. Peter's Bay - a lovely little town overlooking a large bay.

The owner provided excellent customer service and we would totally recommend this place to others.

Just a couple of minor issues to note: we were there in mid July and found the mosquitos moderately annoying in the late afternoon and early evening.

And although there is wifi connection, we found the signal to be a bit slow.

Overall, we were very happy with our stay.

Nice house, great location

  • 5 of 5

The house is very nicely decorated, comfortable and well equipped. The location close to the Greenwich National Park and St Peters is really convenient, but at the same time very peaceful and far from main roads. There was a nice welcome package waiting for us on arrival - thank you Allison! Overall we had a great time.
