Villa Terlingua Guest House is located just north of the Terlingua Ghost Town and just between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. We are 11 miles from the Rio Grande where river trips are possible. We are located where the east and west flyways meet, so there are around 452 species of birds Spring and Fall. We are in the middle of the beautiful Chihuahua desert where the temperatures are mostly warm and the days are clear and sunny.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 1996

About the owner: I came to Terlingua for the first time in 1991 to row the Rio Grande for Far Flung Adventures. After that first season, I knew I needed to live here. I left to go to graduate school, but as soon as I got my Masters in 1996, I returned. Almost immediately a ruin came up for sale and I bought it; $2,500 for 5 acres and the largest 7 room ruin in the Ghost Town. I have been fixing up the houses since then.

Why the Owner Chose Study Butte-Terlingua, TX, USA:
I loved this property originally because it is beautiful and quiet. Once the houses started being built, I got addicted to dressing them up and then making them more off-grid and practical. Now the Guest House has a silent propane refrigerator and a solar water pump as well as a 3,000 gallon rainwater catchment system. So its beautiful and quiet now in a different way.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
It is very private here; we are the northernmost ruin in the Ghost Town, so its very quiet. Then its just 1/4 miles walk through the Ghost Town ruins to The Starlight Theater and the "colorful" and musical side of Terlingua. Also, the house has a full sized kitchen so one doesn't need to go to restaurants all the time. Guests can make their own coffee and relax as the sun rises.
