Well appointed property and great layout for large gatherings.

122 Slipstream was more than I expected. We had our family of 10 and sister-in-law's family of 10 next door. We shared evening meals and our house was used most because communal eating was much easier in the adjoining dining and porch areas. Also, the kids liked our downstairs, ping pong, foosball and large screen tv best. Master bed and bath rooms were tremendous. Kitchen was very well stocked with all sorts of utensils available. The addition of a few more sauce pans would be nice. Also, list of amenities included a k-cup type coffee maker which was not there and we had only brought k-cups. That was inconvenient due to nearest grocery store being almost 30 minutes away.

The pool and lake access on the property were very nice, but a little far (15 minutes by car) from the property. Property also includes a nine-hole golf course, fishing ponds, hiking trails and a rustic park area. The only enhancements that I would recommend is the addition of a small convenience store ( maybe at the greeters cottage) and a playground for small children.

I would highly recommend this property to persons who want to "get away" to and upscale vacation experience.

Would not recommend-Smaller home than expected and very remote-lost power daily

  • 1 of 5

Could not recommend this home.

This home was MUCH smaller than expected, felt cramped. Home in decent shape. Beds were not very comfortable and kitchen was very very small-hard for 2 people to be in there at the same time. Living area was only big enough for 6 people. We lost power daily when a small storm would come, no cell service at All with ATT or Verizon until you got into town 25 mins away. We have rented many cabins and homes in NC, GA and TN and this was the most disappointing home and town by far. Resort to swim at took 17mins from the home to get to on switch back roads, with roads to get there poorly signed/labeled. Near by towns shopping area was horrible- not quant or unique at all.

Quality of products supplied by home owner were poor. Advertised outdoor fireplace was broken.

I could not recommend this home to any friend or family member due to our experience and lack of activities to do located within a 30 mins drive.

Just Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

I couldn't be more pleased with this property! From the moment we arrived I fell in love with this house, its location within Bear Lake Reserve/ Proximity to Western Carolina University, and all there was to do inside the house and the access to nearby hikes. One of my favorites was the proximity to the entrance and the Greeters Cottage. After driving 3+hours with some elderly passengers, it was great to arrive and then "arrive" into the house quickly. The rooms are a great size and super comfortable. It was clean and accommodating for all of our family members. The driveway is a little steep, but super easy to manage once you go up and down it once. I would rent this cabin again in a heartbeat. Its ideal for family reunions, graduation celebrations, girls weekend. Plenty of room. We had a blast playing ping pong! Bear Lake Reserve is definitely a place to rent when visiting the Western Carolina region, and THIS PROPERTY is amazing!

Great family home!

  • 4 of 5

My husband & I recently stayed with our daughter, her husband and their 3 small boys for fall break weekend. It is a wonderful family home- boys loved bunk beds and the really fun downstairs ping pong table and playroom filled with toys and games. It is also the only family TV area (as there is no TV in the main floor living, but TVs in the most bedrooms.) The kitchen was very well-stocked and nice.

Unfortunately, we were there on a very rainy weekend (remnants of hurricanes), so don't know if everything was just a bit harder than normal. There is no close shopping, so bring all your essentials, plus toilet paper & paper towels. (Nearest shopping seems to be in Silva or Cashiers about 30 minutes or so.) The Reception Center has some things, but very limited. We had no cell phone reception and sporadic Internet & TV service.

When weather calmed down, the screened-in porch on the main level was a super afternoon napping spot! The kids loved the open area near the Reception area to play soccer, football, and frisbee-- and nearby fishing.

We really enjoyed the Lodge and ate there for a lunch and 2 dinners (slow, but with limited staff), and had a wonderful time in the expansive pools! We had it almost to ourselves because of the weather! Unfortunately, the drive to/from the Lodge was a 5 mile mountain drive each way, especially treacherous in the dark.

We went to Cashiers for an awesome Sunday brunch at Randevu- would highly recommend!

Bear Lake is beautiful & would love to return in good weather!!

Thank you!
