Overview

About the property

Cozy Cabin with loft, enjoy the peace and tranquility of no neighbors!

Get away from everyone yet within 10 minutes of all the amenities Ogden valley has to offer: This family log cabin is nestled in the middle of over 100 acres on the back side of the Wasatch front, in the shadows of Ben Lomond Peak. There are no neighbors, no disturbances. The accommodations are great and the location can't be beat. Our cabin has a main floor which includes the living room , kitchen and bathroom. Upstairs you will find a loft with 3 queen size beds. The Sofa in the living room also pulls out as a sleeper bed. Bring the whole family or get away with just the two of you. Stay and relax and enjoy the peaceful moments that only nature can provide. Or hit the local hiking or biking trails within minutes. You are also within 10 minutes of Pineview reservoir. There are local vendors you can rent PWC's, boats or head to monte and rent a Razor. For those amenities go to clubrecnorth For more specific details of activities in the area contact me and I will tell you all about it. My residence is only minutes away. The last 1/2 mile of the road leading to the cabin is a dirt road. It is a bit rocky and rough, but any type of vehicle can access it. A note on the road, I occasionally have a renter arrive that has not been on many dirt roads, Thus I get some reviews from renters that are afraid of the road. There are no clearance issues, it does have some rocks that get kicked up here and there and there is one part that gets a little steep. Yes an suv is a preferable vehicle but it's doable in a regular sedan or minivan. I have had a prius make it just fine. It is off the grid, so power is supplied with a generator and fridge and hot water are run by propane. If you have question please send me an email and I will get back with you ASAP! Happy Trails, and I look forward to your stay!

P.S. The Cabin is not accessible by vehicle during the winter months. If you are interested in snowmobiling in to it please contact me and we can discuss. Thanks!

About Bryan Bailey

I am a life long resident of Liberty Utah. The acreage that this cabin sits on was homesteaded by my great Grandfather starting in the 1890's. I built the cabin myself starting back in 1994 when my parents acquired the property from my fathers brother. It was my fathers lifelong dream to build a cabin where he played as a child. Growing up on a Dairy Farm just a couple miles from the cabin, we didn't have long durations of time to get away. The cabin has served as a great way to get away quickly. I currently reside on the Dairy farm, however, we sold the dairy cows back in 2001. We currently farm Hay, grain, horses, Elk, Reindeer, sheep, beef cows and several dogs. If you are interested in seeing the animals, i would be more than happy to take you on a tour.

Bryan Bailey purchased this cabin in 1994

Why Bryan Bailey chose Powder Mountain

What is the one thing this property has to offer that no one in this area can match? It is the peaceful setting with no neighbors. You would never know this cabin even existed if it weren't for the small dirt road leading to it. Sitting on one of the few flat spots on the mountain this location allows one to get away from it all without the long traveling to do so. If you are looking for a condo with pavement a small patch of grass and lots of neighbors, then this is not what you are looking for. If you want some alone time away from neighbors yet within several minutes of many local attractions? Then this is the place!

What makes this cabin unique

You will not have any neighbors to bother you next door as the cabin sits among hundreds of acres. However, a quick drive down the mountains 1/2 mile road and you are back in civilization. The cabin is off grid, meaning we have our own generator and own source of water. If you are looking for some peace and tranquility, this is it!

Remote yet close

  • 5 of 5

Bryan and his family were very helpful and nice during our stay. The cabin is perfectly situated off the grid but close enough to small towns and Ogden that you can easily get anything you want/need.

Lack of preparedness

  • 2 of 5

First let me say that Bryan was generous in that he refunded 2 nights stay when we decided we needed to leave early. I read the description of the property and noted the "off the grid" description. There is no way I would drive just a regular car to the cabin. You need something with higher clearance. Also there was a real lack of preparation for our stay. The beds were made up and comfortable enough but there were no linens for the pull out so if we had had the 8 people staying there was no linens. There was also only 1 towel, no wash cloths, no dish towels available. The generator ran out of gas the first night and the water ran out after only 2 nights. That was without showers and with only 2 people there for the night. I would have anticipated the generator and water being filled prior to our arrival and batteries replaced in the battery operated lights.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately this review has some real inaccuracies to it. I will explain, first off it was obvious from Rebekahs mothers comments that her mother did not know this was an off the grid cabin. She was complaining about the location from the minute I met her. I always personally escort my renters to the cabin upon their arrival. I walk them through accommodations etc. There was plenty of water in the tank for their needs, as well, I do monitor the water level and refill it as needed. I have never let a tank run dry. In a conversation with the son in law it was evident that there would not be 8 people staying at the cabin. For they had another residence that could sleep 25 plus people and he said that their were several people not coming this year. There were 2 towels and a wash cloth as well as paper towels for the needs of 2 people. The generator did run out of gas, however it was on the second night not the first night. I did have it refilled prior to them waking up the next morning. That was an unusual oversight on my part. The road is a dirt road and an Suv is preferable, however, I have had several drive a sedan or minivan and have even had a prius up there, and they did not have any issues with clearance. There were linens for the hide a bed, apparently they did not know where they were nor did they ask me where they were, nor did they even need them. I unfortunately don't know when a battery will die in the battery operated lights and they didn't see the batteries that were in the drawer for replacement. Thankfully they had some of their own. It was my oversight on the generator gas and my apologies there. However, the rest of the items in the review are basically theoretical because they didn't have 8 people staying at the cabin. I knew this upon their check in and thus I took care of them accordingly. Unfortunately this was not a good fit for these renters. Our cabin is at the end of a half mile dirt road and is off the grid. It's a quiet cozy place for a very reasonable price. If you are not comfortable driving a dirt road a little ways up a mountain I suggest you look for different accommodations. Though it is not my policy to refund, I was willing with this renter as I could sense the mother was surprised and not real comfortable being off grid.

Beautiful scenery, cute cabin

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay and the cabin was secluded, comfortable and cute. You should know that it's off-the-grid, which we would have liked to know beforehand and didn't. There is power through a generator and propane and running water, but you can't run the generator all night, so if you have a CPAP or need power through the night for something else, you'll need to bring a battery-powered supply source.

Also, although you can get any car up the road to the cabin, I really recommend something with some good ground clearance. It's a lot easier with an AWD or 4WD vehicle.

Owner's Response: I'm happy Natalie and company had a great time. Unfortunately had she read the entire vrbo website description of the cabin, It specifically says this is off the grid. I also wish she had not assumed she couldn't run the generator all night. Unfortunately she never mentioned anything about that misunderstanding nor the need for the cpap machine. We certainly want to make sure everyone is comfortable. Although the road is a bit bumpy and rocky in places it is driveable by just about any vehicle. My current guests have a prius up there and no complaints. An suv or truck is definitely more comfortable for the 1/2 mile or so dirt road but not required to get there. This is as my ad says a secluded off the grid cabin, accessed by a dirt road. Just want to clarify for future guests.

Wonderfully secluded!!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin has a lot of charm! And it secluded up on the mountain side. It was cozy and quiet. The perfect get away to the mountain!! Make sure to drive an SUV or truck to make it up the gravel road. It's in the perfect spot to go on adventures. Bryan was a lot of help getting to the cabin and explaining everything we needed to know.
