Makaha Valley Retreat

Bedrooms 2
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom

Enjoy our beautiful, mountain-view condo! Newly renovated, our 2 bedroom/1 bathroom unit is perfectly spacious for two couples, or a family of four. With one king bed, one queen bed, and one queen inflatable mattress, the condo can accommodate up to four adults and two small children.

Welcome to Makaha Valley on the leeward coast of Oahu, a little slice of Hawaiian paradise. Makaha is home to white sand beaches, a rural atmosphere, and is a favorite surf location among the locals. Swim with dolphins on a Waianae boat harbor tour, learn to stand-up paddle board in Pokai Bay, visit the local organic farm and market, or enjoy a round of golf at the Makaha Valley Country Club. Makaha is located approximately 45 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. The world famous Ko Olina Resort, including the Disney resort, is also only 20 minutes away. Best of all, our condo is located about one mile down the road from a quiet beach!

It is located in the Makaha Valley Plantation, a gated community. The community hosts 24-hour security on site, convenient laundry gazebos, tennis courts, two pools, and basketball courts. And, the beloved local peacocks find Makaha to be their perfect home, too.

The closet is stocked with everything you'll need to enjoy the local beaches: boogie boards, beach towels, cooler, beach umbrella, bucket of sand toys and beach chairs. Upon request, we'd be happy to have a Pack 'n Play and high chair ready for your little one when you check in. There are plenty of fans to help circulate the trade winds. And, best of all, the unit has an air conditioning unit to cool down the living room.

Free wifi and one assigned parking space is included.

Check-in time is 4:00 p.m. Check-out time is 10:00 a.m.

Why Natalie Zisko chose Hawaii

Makaha is quiet, a haven for sea turtles and spinner dolphins, and framed by mountains. It's located off some of the last stoplights on the island. Makaha is a relaxing retreat, and truly gives visitors an authentic Hawaiian vacation.

Accomodations were nice but.....

  • 4 of 5

I hate to write this review but feel that the info in it is important to people who wish to rent this condo. The condo is nice and well stocked. We found the location a bit noisy as almost all traffic from the community drives by it to get out of the gate. This is fairly well remedied by purchasing a noisy fan for the bedroom. The biggest drawback though is the neighbors downstairs that are all to willing to let you know immediately that they smoke pot and would be generous enough to share a bowl with you, and smoke pot they did!!! All day long!!! So just be warned if you don't love that skunky smell of pot filling up your living quarters all day long this is not the place for you. I am sure this is out of the owners hands but it sure made for a less than desirable stay.

Accommodations were nice and sufficient but neighbors smoke pot all day long

  • 4 of 5

The accommodations were nice but the downstairs neighbors smoked pot all day long everyday filling the whole unit with that terrible smell. I went back on forth on whether to write this review as I don't know that there is anything that the property owner can do about this problem but having to endure the constant pot fumes from the neighbor below who just apparently could not get high enough was miserable. I hope that the owner can resolve this problem.

Office personnel was cordial and efficient. Security was helpful and friendly.

Condominium was cleaned and met all of our expectations.

We enjoyed the quiet evenings hours.

We would highly recommend this place to others.

Awesome Stay!

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived at the condo, we immediately noticed how clean the place was! It's clear that the owner keeps up with maintenance and cleanings. Makaha beach is quiet and has a beautiful mountain backdrop. This condo is exactly what were looking for. An affordable vacation on Oahu! Would stay again!

This condo was so clean and nicely decorated not to mention the view. We could see the ocean from our room as well as the beautiful mountain background. Loved the peacocks roaming the grounds. The staff was so friendly and helpful! Would recommend this condo to all.

Great Accommodation!!!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay! The Makaha Valley Plantation is well groomed, clean, and well-maintained. The security guards and office staff are friendly and helpful, as were the neighbors we met. The condo itself was very clean and comfortable, with a great view of the surrounding area. The updated decor is very tasteful. We were pleasantly surprised to see how well stocked the kitchen was, in addition to the usual dishes, pots and pans (toaster, crock pots, blender). The beds were super-comfortable! There were plenty of beach towels and beach accessories, including a cooler, umbrella, mats, boogie boards, and beach toys. There were also board games for evening entertainment. Of course, cable tv and wifi were nice bonuses.

When we first arrived to the condo (mid-afternoon), the air conditioner was not on, so it was quite warm and stuffy. It took most of the evening to cool down. We strategically placed the floor fans to help circulate the air to the bedrooms. The condo gets afternoon/evening sun, so we found that keeping the curtains closed while we were gone during the day through sunset helped to keep the condo comfortably cool.

The free-roaming peacocks and chickens were fun to watch. I even got a nice picture of a male peacock with his feathers fanned out, "strutting his stuff." The peacocks can be quite verbal, especially in the early morning, along with the roosters. If you sleep with the windows open, you will hear them. It didn't bother us at all, but just a reminder that nature was close by.

The town of Makaha is definitely inhabited by more locals and is not "touristy" at all. The beaches are not crowded and we found that gas was cheaper than closer into Honolulu. That said, if you plan on grocery shopping, I recommend shopping in the Kapolei area instead of the local grocery in Makaha -- better, bigger food selection. Also, there are only a handful of options for dining (we really liked Spinner's Cafe), but overall, there is a much better selection of restaurants down the road in Ko'Olina and Kapolei. If you are planning on driving to see the sights, I suggest avoiding the typical rush hour times. It takes about 30 minutes in normal traffic to get to the highway crossroads that access the rest of the island. Once to the crossroads, it was easy to get to the North Shore or Honolulu.

We enjoyed our first visit to Hawaii and the condo accommodations certainly added to our experience. We would definitely stay here again!

Owner's Response: Thanks for such a detailed review! We are glad you enjoyed your stay and got to know the surrounding areas. The best part about staying in Makaha is definitely the gorgeous beaches! Mahalo for staying at our unit!
