Sunny, secluded Cape short walk to Lambert's Cove--year round

Bedrooms 4
Space 1,600 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, perfect family house

This bright, sunny, gambrel Cape Cod home is situated on a private acre on a quiet country lane. You are a 5-minute walk from Lambert's Cove Beach, considered one of the most pristine and beautiful beaches on Martha's Vineyard, yet only 10 minutes from towns, restaurants, and shopping. Relax and dine on the two large decks in quiet privacy, surrounded by beech trees.

The interior is freshly painted and filled with comfortable, high-quality furniture. Gallery art and designer decor are several cuts above the average vacation rental. Downstairs is a front-to-back fireplaced living room, large kitchen, dining area with room for 8-10, and full bath. Upstairs are 4 cozy bedrooms and a second full bath. There are hardwood floors and oversized windows throughout the house, and ceiling fans in the bedrooms (sorry, no AC). The walk-out basement has laundry facilities and a ping-pong table, and a new, spacious outdoor shower is perfect for cleaning off after the beach.

The kitchen is well equipped with a waffle maker, electric griddle, blender, coffee grinder and Cuisinart coffee brewer. In addition, there is a lobster pot, bowls and platters, salad spinner, and a full set of pots and pans - all the comforts of home.

The house is uniquely situated as it is walking distance to three swimming areas. It's a 5-minute walk to the Lambert's Cove Beach parking lot, a residents-only private beach with miles of untouched sand dunes. Because it is open to West Tisbury residents and tenants only, it is never crowded. Sunsets on this beach are the best on the island. Your rental includes family beach passes.

Enjoy swimming in crystal clear glacial ponds? Manaquayak Preserve and Seth's Pond are also less than 10 minutes' walk from the house. Manaquayak Preserve is one of the newest Martha's Vineyard Land Bank properties. This 12-acre property contains a pristine, glacier-formed kettle pond originally called Ice House Pond. It has only 4 parking spaces to limit its use. Seth's Pond has a sandy beach and is popular with young children.

This is a great set-up for families with young kids. In the basement you'll find bikes, a portacrib, high chair, stroller, and kids' toys and books, saving you the hassle of bringing these items on your travels.

What makes this house unique

The house is ideal for one family or two, or a group of adults. The location can't be beat -- close to everything, but quiet and secluded. Laying on the hammock, listening to the birds and the distant ferry horn, is something we dream about all year long.

Great group getaway

  • 5 of 5

We headed to the vineyard to run the marathon for the second year. As a group of adult runners and their spouses we were looking for enough bedrooms and a nice kitchen area for a family dinner. We had a couple last minute cancellations which left it just 3 of us siblings and one friend. It ended up being the perfect house for what we had planned. As it was it was pretty big. We all had our own rooms with plenty of space for more. What was the best was the kitchen/dining area. It was perfect for cooking and eating together. We didn’t make use of the basement but there were bikes and a ping pong table. There are 2 decks and a nice yard. We enjoyed the indoor fire place while lounging on the couches post marathon since it was a rainy weekend. Long story short, we loved it! Highly recommend staying here. It was a great location near the beach as well. We hope to be back!

Very cozy and clean home to stay

  • 5 of 5

Spent the last weekend at this house. It is so clean and cozy!.

The owner, Lisa, has been very nice to answer all my questions before we stayed there.

A nice beach within a walking distance, very convenient!

You do need a car to get to other places.

Great house for two families, wonderful beach!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Elizabeth's house. We were four adults and four kids (9, 5, 3, and <1) and we stayed for a week in the summer. The house was clean, the beds were fine, and everything essential worked great (dishwasher, washer, dryer, fridge, etc.). The sliding screen door to one of the decks was broken/always off track but I have found that true of 30% of all sliding screen doors I've ever met.

You do feel nicely secluded among trees and I imagine if you don't have small children, you could have a really nice relaxing morning sipping coffee on one of the decks, or an evening cocktail listening to birds. Yeah, I bet that would be nice for some people.

There was a nearby house that had some rowdy frat dudes the last few days we were there that we could hear at night. They liked to play drinking games and then vomit in the wee hours of the morning. Not the house's fault though!

It is a short drive to great bakeries, the grocery store, Vineyard Haven, and a little further, Oak Bluffs.

The house is definitely walkable to Lambert's Cove, which is a wonderful beach for kids, though it's not really walkable if you are hauling chairs and food and blankets and stuff, so we ended up driving to the beach, dropping off the bulk of our people and supplies, and then one of us would park back at the house (we didn't have sticker for the car to park at the beach) and do the walk back. It was pretty easy though and worth it to spend a full day at the beach.

There is a pack and play and a stroller, though the stroller is quite large so I wouldn't use it for downtown Vineyard haven or Oak Bluffs trips. We didn't bring our umbrella stroller from home but we wished we had it for shopping in town. The high chair provided would be fine for a toddler, but was not suitable for an infant.

Definitely check out a sunset at the beach. That was gorgeous the one night we did that.

The house worked really well for our two families, I'd definitely recommend it. We all loved the tasteful and stylish decor and the other family even said they wanted to redo their own home to incorporate some of the decor elements.

Elizabeth and Lisa were super responsive throughout our planning process (we booked 11 months before the trip!) and very easy to work with.

Finally, they have Pump Up The Volume with Christian Slater and Stealing Home with Mark Harmon on DVD available for you to watch. So that was pretty cool.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the informative and humorous review, and we're glad your group enjoyed the stay. The screen door has already been repaired! We were dismayed to hear of the frat-dude noise, which is definitely not the norm for our quiet, peaceful neighborhood. Hoping that you return for a future visit, and that the dudes do not. Cheers! Lisa

Car: recommended

The house is a 5-minute walk along a country road to the Lambert's Cove Beach entrance, a residents-only private beach with warm water and miles of untouched sand dunes. You can also drop off beach chairs and coolers at the parking lot, and guest can come and go as they wish. This beach has fine sand and silver dollar shells. Because it is open to West Tisbury residents and tenants only, it is never crowded. Sunsets on this beach are the best on the island.

For a change of pace, Seth's Pond (the Island's largest fresh water swimming pond) is also a 5-minute walk. Also within walking distance is Manaquayak Preserve, a kettle pond. Created by glaciers, this pristine pond is one of the Land Bank's newest acquisitions. Each pond has only four parking spaces, so is predominantly used by local residents.

A grocery store, shops and restaurants are only a few minutes' drive. The house is centrally located on the Vineyard such that you have easy access to all the towns.
