A Beautifully Remodeled "Rustic Modern" Farmhouse
Our farmhouse, built in 1900, is situated in a valley on five acres in the Lost River area. We describe its style as "rustic modern," meaning that it retains much of its century-old character, but has been renovated into a loft with a two-story window looking out on the pasture, a barn and the mountains beyond. The first floor has a dining and living area, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, laundry area and a bedroom with a queen-sized bed. The dining area opens to a large deck that looks on to the mountains. There is a fire pit, charcoal grill, and loungers, perfect for relaxing with a cup of coffee in the morning, or a glass of wine in the evening while gazing at the amazing stars that are visible on any clear evening. The kitchen opens to a screened-in porch with a table and chairs. The second floor has a living area loft that overlooks the dining room and the two-story window and is furnished with a sofa and television. There is also a second bedroom with a queen-sized bed.

Why Eric chose Mathias
We bought this farmhouse and the five acres it sits on in 2010 to escape the hustle and bustle of our lives in Washington, DC. It's a special place to kick back, open up a good book, a bottle of wine, and find peace.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Close to the Lost River community, with state park for hiking, horseback riding and swimming; a yoga studio; the Lost River General Store, which makes great lunches; the Lost River Trading Post in Wardensville, which was featured in the New York Times; and much more! The community is small but wonderfully progressive, and offers something for everyone -- a great spot for relaxation or social activities.

Perfect seclusion in amazing farm house
We LOVED staying at the beautiful farm house and had 4 amazing nights. Very comfy and easy communication + arrival. Our two young visitors in heaven with the vast outdoor possibilities. Welcoming cows, lush grassy fields, the croquet and lots of porch play. The house itself has everything and we really appreciated the homey vibe - the place certainly has character and in a most welcoming way! Great kitchen for all cooking and creaky floors (sound carries! making the two bedrooms seem like one). Even the flies and irony water was enjoyed! Eric and Brett have considered every query or question a visitor might have. We lacked absolutely nothing during our stay and loved buzzing over to Lost River State Park for great hikes and having soft-serve ice cream at local inn in Mathias. We'd come back anytime and give our best recommendations and rating! Thank you.
Great stay at the farmhouse
The Farmhouse is ideally situated near Lost River State Park. The house is beautiful indoors and out. The decor is true farmhouse. A great place for a family getaway or for a couple. Thanks!
Such a special spot. Cozy and peaceful. We love it there, and are able to take such a deep breath. Eric is wonderfully helpful and kind. It's the kind of spot people in movies go for a weekend away, and you think "if only real-life places could be that charming and bucolic and picturesque."
The perfect weekend getaway
The house was very cute and well-equipped. It had Wi-Fi, fire pit, lots of beautiful scenery around, and very cute decorations. We very much enjoyed our weekend at the house.
Great weekend getaway!
Highly recommend this cabin for a weekend getaway. We went with another couple and our dogs and loved it! Cabin was absolutely adorable, lots of natural light, and very cozy. We spent most of our time on the back porch around the fire pit. Definitely pay a visit!
Very much enjoyed this place. If you're looking for a place to unwind and maybe go on a hike or two, it's a great spot. Definitely get groceries prior to the trip because there is not much selection in the surrounding area.
The house is comfortable with great light and a nice deck. I just went there to read for the weekend and it was great for that.
