The condo: the view was ok, lots of trees but nothing particularly notable about it. Some areas of the community had really nice golf course views. The deck was large and the furniture was comfortable. But It did not appear that the cleaning crew cleans the patio area…the glass table was quite dirty. Also there were lots of wasps, carpenter bees, etc. Many nests in the rafters and we saw them swarming into the deck boards right below the sliding door of the bedroom. The exterminator came while we were there but that didn’t clear them out. The condo itself was very nice with some high end upgrades. The kitchen had everything we needed, except maybe a crockpot. The towels and linens were a nice high quality. However, there was one HUGE letdown…the beds were terrible…SO uncomfortable and old (like rundown motel “old”). The box springs creaked and squeezed with any tiny movement. Every bed seemed to have this issue (we tried them all). For 4 nights, we had the worst sleep ever and woke up with back aches. This was so disappointing…A good night’s rest is such an important piece of enjoying a getaway. With new beds, this place would be great!
Community: The country club was nice with some beautiful views. The pool area was nice and wasn’t busy. The hot tub jets were broken. The condo itself was almost at the very back of the community and the drive contains some very steep ups and downs (a bit like a roller coaster). The garage was a nice benefit. There were 20+ steps leading up to the condo from the from the garage. Something to consider for anyone who doesn’t do well with stairs or if you have a lot to unload from the car!
Location/Area: Whittier is midway between Cherokee and Bryson City (about 20-25 min each way). But there was nothing notable in Whittier except the Post Office. No restaurants or anything else to do (except we did pick blueberries at a nearby house). The closest grocery store was about 20 mins away so we were glad we planned out our meals in advance. Also, during early August we found that many restaurants were closed on Monday and Tuesday and/or closed early on the days they were open.
