About Brenda K. Ellison

Hello, my name is Brenda and my husband’s name is Mike. Welcome to Peaceful Properties--Your choice for a green and serene stay. My husband and I are retired Army officers serving for 24 and 30 years respectively. We both love this area and plan to make it our permanent home in the near future. There is no other place in the area that has the benefits of viewing both mountain ranges; the Massanutten on the west and the Shenandoah on the east with the South Fork of the beautiful and peaceful Shenandoah River running between these green mountains. An awesome sight when you see eagles or osprey flying high, deer and turkeys running through the woods, and an occasional bear to remind you that you are in Page County and the Luray area. We hope you enjoy your stay at Peaceful Properties. It is a magnificently beautiful area especially on a clear night with the stars you cannot see nearer the cities.

Brenda K. Ellison purchased this cabin in 2002

Why Brenda K. Ellison chose Shenandoah Valley

This is by far our favorite setting of our three Peaceful Properties homes. It is all about country living--getting away from the busy city, experiencing the sounds of nature, and relaxing.

What makes this cabin unique

If one could fall in love with an inanimate object, it would be this property. In 2003 we moved from Virginia to San Antonio, TX, where my husband and I were transferred in the Army. On weekends back to this area, we would drive around exploring the area. On one of those weekends, we saw a home for sale sign. As we traveled down the gravel road before the creek, we saw this quaint older cabin on over 3 acres of land. My husband traveled back the next weekend, toured, the home, and purchased it that weekend plus the surrounding acres. It has beautiful wood floors, the architecture of an historic cabin, and the comforts of a modern home. Everything in the home conveyed as well as the little cabin out back, which has not yet been finished. The only sounds you hear while sitting on the front porch are birds, livestock (a few), and trains. You can actually see the engineer in the train as it passes over the trestle 100 yards behind the home.

Notes:
If you want to getaway to a secluded and quiet area, this is your best choice. There are trains which pass near the property. If you don't like train noises, this is not the place for you. However, they are not as loud as you may think. If you like train noises and like waving to the engineers, then don't pass this up. There is no other property like this around.

Beautiful country cabin

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a long weekend for our 10th anniversary at this perfect cabin in the woods. It had everything we needed but cell service, but who needs that when there is WiFi and a house phone anyway. You will enjoy the peace and quiet of this property. Thank you Brenda & Mike for the extra touches.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Tina and Pat, for your wonderful review and your decision to celebrate your 10th at Green Valley Junction. Yep, no cell service unless you have Sprint and then it's spotty in this green valley. Never fear, there is Wifi and free local and long distance calling. So your loved ones can still get a hold of you and vice versa. Thanks for staying and being a fantastic guest. Hope you can return. Peaceful Properties...Green...Serene.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I'm glad you had a relaxing time. We have made many improvements since your stay. The outside frames of the windows are new and our carpenter is putting in two new Andersen windows in the kitchen.

Tranquil little piece of heaven !

  • 5 of 5

Brenda, the owner, was very helpful. We had to call her and she was at a important family event and picked up the phone ! Thank you so much ! The cabin was very nice and clean. If you want to make your meals, the kitchen is accommodating. We enjoyed looking out at the property on the front porch while sipping coffee in the mornings. A little bunny paid us a few visits too ! We'll written instructions throughout the cabin, very helpful. The mountains in Luray are spectacular to see ! We visited the Hawksbill park and very much enjoyed the walk along the stream. The hot tub looked great but didn't have a chance to experience it, hopefully next time ! Thanks again Brenda for the last minute booking and the baked goods and snores !

Owner's Response: Thank you for reviewing your stay at Green Valley Junction. I appreciate the positive feedback and always open to improvements wherever we can. We know we have some modifications and upgrades. We are waiting to sell our home in Northern VA so we can move ahead. The front porch is definitely one of the highlights along with the dual fans which circulate the air for improved comfort on the porch. Thanks again and we hope you can return. Green...Serene.

Secluded and generally quiet except for the occasional train. Nice get away.

  • 4 of 5

We arrived to find a wonderfully secluded cabin away from the hustle and bustle. The owner was clearly meticulous in her overall preparation for her guests and the experience was very nice. There was a complimentary Smores kit in the fridge and firewood available for our use among the other amenities. Some unexpected games were also available for use. The owner was also easily available for any questions or concerns. A couple of minor detractors- the only bathroom in the cabin was very small and a larger person would have difficulty using the toilet. The rear porch area smelled like mold or mildew and we thus chose to use the front door only. The cabin could use some repair work due to age and some deterioration and the maintenance man chose to visit the property to get a canoe while we were there. He didn't even stop to say anything, but this issue was addressed by the owner immediately.

Owner's Response: Thank you for providing recommendations for improvement. It took me awhile to think about how to respond. I was away at my nephew's wedding in Atlanta; however, I have friends I can count on if anything is needed. I would have appreciated a call regarding the comments. We have had window repair and the window repair person took off the frames and did not return to finish the work. Thus, water got inside the frames around the porch. I sincerely apologize for this and we have taken quick action to remedy this situation by hiring an expert carpenter who has already left his positive impression on the cabin. If others read this please be assured that my husband and I have refocused our efforts on this property, my favorite. We will be painting the outside of the cabin a lighter color, installing some tile in the front porch and painting that area as well. Our future plans is to expand and add another bathroom, fireplace, and larger living area as well as expand the existing bathroom. This is over a 100-year old cabin and is a delight to stay. It is comfy and homey. My housekeeper keeps it clean inside and we have done war on the bugs--it's the country! No excuses, I'm a country girl and I don't like bugs either. Finally, I apologize for the maintenance/painter. He was not aware anyone was there and was in haste to retrieve the canoe for his daughter. I have shown him this review and I believe this will not happen again. In his haste he was caught off guard and didn't want to bother you. A judgment error but nonetheless this individual has been my friend and colleague for over 15 years. I trust him to do what is right. He made a mistake. Thank you for calling me and informing me of your concern. Peaceful Properties are Green...Serene....even this one.

Enjoyed our Stay

  • 4 of 5

This was a quiet little cabin in the woods. My wife and I stayed here for our first anniversary and it was pretty good. There were a few bugs in the cabin and the hot tub was not attached to the house (it's about 20 yards away and up a flight of stairs), but other than that it was great! The king bed was very comfortable and the kitchen appliances were very nice. Brenda was very welcoming as a host and even left us a bottle of wine since we were celebrating our anniversary. The hot tub was very relaxing! Remember to bring plastic drink ware since glass is not allowed in the hot tub and the house doesn't have any plastic cups. Also, this cabin is on a curvy single-lane dirt road so if you have a truck or vehicle better suited for off-road, it would be better to bring that.

Thanks for a great weekend!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review of your stay at Green Valley Junction. Yep...this is an old cabin yet quaint. Thanks for the recommendation on the plastic cups/glasses for the hot tub. I do point out in the property description that a 4-wheel is recommended but not required. The road is less than 1/2 mile long and easily navigable but I would not bring the Rolls Royce. As far as the bugs, you are in high season. However, noted and I will ensure the home and property is duly sprayed for future guests. Thanks again and I'm glad you enjoyed the wine. Green...Serene.

Owner's Response: Thank you for reviewing your stay at Green Valley Junction. I am thrilled you enjoyed the train. Makes my heart happy being the child, grandchild, and great-grandchild of railroad workers. I hope you can return to wave at the conductors as the traverse the trestle above. Thanks again, Peaceful Properties...Green...Serene.
