About Brenda K. Ellison

Hello, my name is Brenda and my husband’s name is Mike. Welcome to Peaceful Properties--Your choice for a green and serene stay. My husband and I are retired Army officers serving for 24 and 30 years respectively. We both love this area and plan to make it our permanent home in the near future. There is no other place in the area that has the benefits of viewing both mountain ranges; the Massanutten on the west and the Shenandoah on the east with the South Fork of the beautiful and peaceful Shenandoah River running between these green mountains. An awesome sight when you see eagles or osprey flying high, deer and turkeys running through the woods, and an occasional bear to remind you that you are in Page County and the Luray area. We hope you enjoy your stay at Peaceful Properties. It is a magnificently beautiful area especially on a clear night with the stars you cannot see nearer the cities.

Brenda K. Ellison purchased this cabin in 2002

Why Brenda K. Ellison chose Shenandoah Valley

This is by far our favorite setting of our three Peaceful Properties homes. It is all about country living--getting away from the busy city, experiencing the sounds of nature, and relaxing.

What makes this cabin unique

If one could fall in love with an inanimate object, it would be this property. In 2003 we moved from Virginia to San Antonio, TX, where my husband and I were transferred in the Army. On weekends back to this area, we would drive around exploring the area. On one of those weekends, we saw a home for sale sign. As we traveled down the gravel road before the creek, we saw this quaint older cabin on over 3 acres of land. My husband traveled back the next weekend, toured, the home, and purchased it that weekend plus the surrounding acres. It has beautiful wood floors, the architecture of an historic cabin, and the comforts of a modern home. Everything in the home conveyed as well as the little cabin out back, which has not yet been finished. The only sounds you hear while sitting on the front porch are birds, livestock (a few), and trains. You can actually see the engineer in the train as it passes over the trestle 100 yards behind the home.

Great secluded getaway

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was cute and very secluded. We're used to being out in the country but this place definitely made you feel like no one was around you for miles even though there are houses down the street but still very secluded. Property was cozy, clean, and comfy. The owners were very accommadating even gave us firewood and s'mores. The train didn't bother us at all. The owner was very accommodating and quickly responded to any questions we had. Luray caverns was about 20min drive. We definitely enjoyed our stay.

A Great View & Cozy Feel

  • 5 of 5

My fiancee and I stayed at GVJ over the Thanksgiving holiday to visit with some family and loved it! The serene area and well-maintained home made us feel as much at home as we could ever feel. The amenities are never-ending, from the front-porch rocking chair to the firepit to the Wi-Fi, and of course the hot tub! The property is ample for tossing the football or playing corn hole, which is also provided! The kitchen is large enough to cook full meals and the coffee maker brews a mean cup of joe for your early-morning jolt. Overall, the cabin and property are amazing, the location is serene, and the owners are very thoughtful. We will definitely be returning to GVJ when it warms back up to partake in some kayaking and fishing in the nearby Shenandoah River!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking time to review your stay. I appreciate the descriptions of how you spent your time and what amenities we have at the property. This cabin is located on 3.5 acres and adjoining a wooded area of 12 more acres. Thanks for being such great guests and it was my pleasure treating you with a homemade pie for your Thanksgiving dinner. Peaceful Properties...Green...Serene.

Fantastic spot; spacious, quiet, picturesque, quaint

  • 5 of 5

The minute we entered the path to the cabin, we knew we had found a slice of heaven. The cabin was very spacious but still felt quaint and cozy. The kitchen was well appointed. The grounds were pristine and a great place for my kids to run around in. The fire pit and hot tub were close enough to the house that we didn't have to wear our coats to get to them. The bedrooms were super comfortable, and my kids were especially excited about sleeping in the attic. We didn't think we would use the TV, but ended up loving the HD quality and size. We also loved the fact that we got to watch the trains from the main bedroom's bed, from the hot tub and from the fire pit. We never heard it at night, and though it woke us up around eight in the morning, we didn't want to waste the day sleeping anyway, so it was a good thing. Finally, we were surprised with a visit from the owner a few minutes after we arrived, bearing treats for us and the kids to celebrate New Year's eve. Thank you very much; we will definitely return.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. It was my pleasure to help make your stay comfortable. This is a perfect cabin for couples and family. Not only secluded but just 15 minutes away from many attractions in the quaint town of Luray. It was a pleasure meeting you and your family. The girls looked like they were having fun in the upstairs bedroom which is perfect for that age. Thanks again for being such great guests. Hope you return to enjoy the property and area. Owner's Response: Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Yes, this cabin is great for couples. It is cozy, it is clean, and it is only 8 miles from Luray. This is an original log cabin which has been modified over the years. Located on a beautiful green setting, this is the place to come and unwind. Of all the cabins in Peaceful Properties, this is my favorite. Thank you for staying at Green Valley Junction. Peaceful Properties...Green...Serene.

We loved our stay in the cabin....It was very private....The hot tub was a perfect way to end a great day..The scenery was not very good but still a beautiful place..The cabin is a little ways from everything..You will have to drive if you want to do anything, so plan your trip wisely...Mrs Brenda is a WONDERFUL Hostess and has all you need in the cabin to make you feel at home.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your response. I am glad that I was able to accommodate changing your reservation a day before your arrival at no additional cost so that you could still come several weeks later. The cabin is 8 miles away from Luray. It is not in town or in a neighborhood. Actually, most of the guests who book this cabin want a secluded experience. This is clearly described in the property description, photos, and in the amenities listed on VRBO. Scenery is wooded area and noted in the description. The beauty of this property is that it is located on 3.5 acres surround by 12 additional acres. My guests have seen turkeys, beer, deer, occasional bobcat, and my favorite bird--the pileated woodpecker. The beauty of this location is just that...Serene...Green. The cabin is clean and pristine. My recommendation is that the guests carefully read the descriptions of the homes of Peaceful Properties before they make a decision based on price alone. Peaceful River is on the river--a higher price but great value. Brown Bear Retreat is on a ridge looking at Massanutten Range. Green Valley Junction, this property, is the least expensive but is secluded, in a green valley and close to a train trestle. I don't hide any facts of the home and I clearly outline the amenities and physical layout of the property. Hope you can come back and stay in one of our other cabins based on what you expect the property to provide for your experience.

Green Valley Junction

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this property. I was especially impressed with the quality of the kitchen supplies. (We couldn't find a grill brush to thoroughly clean the grill.) The train was a little annoying at 6:20 in the morning when they blew the whistle for the crossing. However, I do live near a train and every time I hear it, it brings back the memories of vacation! The hot tub was great. It would have been nice if the game table was functioning, since there wasn't much to do in the evening. I would recommend this cabin to my friends.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I apologize for the lack of a grill brush. I was not aware that is was missing. I am also available 24/7 for anything a guest needs. I make this very clear when I speak with my guests upon their check-in, which is why I ask each guest to call me upon their arrival. I did not hear from this guest on the phone. The phone is a landline which has free local and long distance calls, my telephone is on the contract, the website, and the business cards placed on the table with the very detailed guest book which I ask my guests to review. Reading the guest book helps the guests with their stay. In my welcome letter I also include links to the Chamber of Commerce, places to eat, and other interesting facts about this lovely Page County. Good grief--SNP is only 20 minutes away. This cabin is not in the high mountains or a wilderness; it is 8 miles from Luray, the heart of Page County and Luray Caverns. The cabin is equipped with an HDTV and wifi. Train-Guests who chose to stay here like the sound even at 6:20 in the a.m. Game table, yes, not functioning because we removed it because it was not functioning. The photos of the game table were removed but it was still noted on the picklist. I would have gone out and purchased a pingpong table if this guest had requested it. I would like readers of this review to know that I am very responsive; however, I also expect my guests to be responsive and communicative also. Here are some ideas for things to do in the evening: Take a walk on the Hawksbill Greenway. The Town of Luray has invested resources into the community to beautify the streets. The greenway is a paved walking and biking trail which winds around the creek. On your trek you can see waterfowl, fishermen, cattle, dog-walkers. Anyone want a movie? RedBox at Walmart or if you want go to the pink downtown, old town Cinema. It won't break your wallet. BB&T Performing Arts: In the welcome letter and in a separate email, I include all of the special events happening in the area. Mimslyn SpeakEasy for a drink, snack, or dinner. Uncle Bucks has a great small-town bar with beer on tap or a soda. Read a book TV--you can order a movie. Just have to contact me and pay for it. Games--some games in the home. Hot tub--The hot tub is in a separate building about 50 feet from the back of the house. Stargazing--you can't do this in the city. Thank you and I appreciate the opportunity to provide more valuable information.

Notes:
If you want to getaway to a secluded and quiet area, this is your best choice. There are trains which pass near the property. If you don't like train noises, this is not the place for you. However, they are not as loud as you may think. If you like train noises and like waving to the engineers, then don't pass this up. There is no other property like this around.
