Peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely stay in Shelter Island, the house was everything we hoped for, so close to the beach and the salt water pool was such a treat. The house had all the modern touches we needed washer dryer, great central ac and ample and comfortable for our family of 5 and guests. Kate's recommendations in the area were spot on and we felt very well taken care of plus she was extremely responsive with any questions or needs we had and we greatly appreciated that. It was our first time out to Shelter and we think we may make it a yearly tradition. We put together 3 jigsaw puzzles and took naps!!! Was such a lovely vacation from our busy city life.

Relaxing comfortable stay

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a terrific fall week. The kitchen is well equipped and big. The bedrooms are nicely situated for privacy. Having two living spaces to spread out in was perfect on the colder days. Nice dock for sunset viewing and lounging. Wish we could have been there in the summer to use the pool. The yard is spacious. Loved our stay!

Absolute perfection

  • 5 of 5

Where to begin?! We spent a blissful two weeks at this incredible home, cooking, swimming and just totally decompressing. The house is very spacious with a perfected layout, impeccably and tastefully appointed and just exudes easy, clean, luxurious comfort, down to the linens and towels! We were most often gathering in the fabulous chef's kitchen, savoring all it had to offer. The porch was a perfect spot for getting out of the sun and reading very comfortably. The pool was pristine and the perfect temperature and the pool area had super comfy chairs all on a stone that never became too hot (esp important for my 2 year old!). Kate is a gem and a pleasure to work with since the very first communication. She adds an extra special touch to your entire experience, from lovely welcome treats, to thorough island information, restaurants, shopping, activities, you name it, in addition to her availability to respond to questions that came up during our stay. Perfect home, perfect host, perfect island - we will absolutely return!

You can't go wrong

  • 5 of 5

We had the BEST stay at this home - we even tried to extend our trip, but someone smarter already booked it. The owner recently renovated the home and did everything right. The pool area was perfect for entertaining and the dock down the street made it easy to kayak and paddle board around the island.

The owner was a pleasure to work with - arriving to fresh ground coffee, cookies and rose was a nice way to start our vacation. Kate was able to answer all of our questions from where to eat to secret beaches where our dog could explore off leash. This was by far my best rental experience and we plan to be back sooner than later.

Wonderful oasis

  • 5 of 5

This house boast a wonderful pool in a beautiful setting as well as a dock on a serene inlet. We loved kayaking in the creek and beyond. The house itself is so tastefully appointed in each and every room and yet it's comfortable and not imposing. Our family enjoyed gathering around the island in the jaw-dropping chef's kitchen and around the table for meals and board games. There were so many fabulous places to curl up and read. It's hard to know whether the porch bed, the dock chaises, the pool chaises, the lounge in the upstairs family room or the coaches in the downstairs gathering room provided the best reading spot. But certainly everyone had their own favorite spot to curl up and relax -- in addition to their own spacious bedroom. We had a great time taking the bikes out to Ram Island, Shell Beach and Hay Beach and, of course, Wade's Beach. The house was well-situated so that we could walk to the Tuck Shop for ice cream, to the Heights for dinner and into town as well. We'd be thrilled to stay here again and would not change a thing. It was an ideal place for a family vacation.

What a wonderful house to get away from it all! As soon as you walk through the front door you will love it, and the kitchen which is amazing will blow you away, it says "party" with family and friends. There is everything you need for a great, relaxing vacation,, no detail is overlooked. Even the mudroom is posh.

Shelter Island is an ideal vacation destination, away from it and yet close the the happenings of the Hamptons. It is truly New York's best kept secret!

This island, accessible only by ferry, is only 8,000 acres and yet it offers some of the best restaurants in the Hamptons as well as beautiful beaches, sailing, golf, fishing, boating, cultural events and bird and animal watching in the 2,500 acre nature preserve.

Enjoy sunset at one of the many quiet beaches, a quaint little pub or head to Crescent Beach for a cocktail among the jet set at Andre Balaz's Sunset Beach restaurant.

You needn’t leave the island but if you choose to, Greenport and Sag Harbor are just a ferry ride away. Venture a little further and explore the north fork, known for its quaint towns, vineyards and farmers markets, or head to the south fork for the hottest fashion stores and restaurants, movie theaters, ocean beaches, and fish markets.

Other Activities: Going for walks on the beach, napping by the pool, reading by the fire, watching a movie on the HD tv, cooking a wonderful meal to enjoy with friends and family, coffee at stars cafe, dining at one of the many great food purveyors, watching sunset from your private dock or Sunset Bar and Grill, antiquing at Marika's or Beall and Bell, shopping at local boutiques, going to vineyards for wine tastings, golf at nearby public course, shopping in greenport, movies in Sag Harbor, biking around the island, and relaxing in the sun by the pool.
