About Renee Graner, Pinon Real Estate Group BV

The Brockhaus family has been helping individuals like you create spectacular vacation memories in the Colorado Rockies since 1992. We pride ourselves in providing unique accommodations and excellent customer service. Please contact our property manager with any questions, at 719-207-0650.

The Log Home, located three miles outside of Buena Vista, Colorado, was bought by Bob and Joyce Brockhaus in 1992 as an investment property available only for long-term rentals. In 2006, the Log Home was completely renovated and converted into a vacation rental home that has served as a mountain retreat from hot and sticky summers and a headquarters for many winter ski trips.

Dr. Bob taught entrepreneurship at Saint Louis University where he held the Coleman Chair in Entrepreneurship for 20 years and has been an invited speaker in over 20 countries.

Dr. Joyce has been president of the Brockhaus Group which has provided consulting services to large family controlled businesses for 20 years.

Renee Graner, Pinon Real Estate Group BV purchased this house in 1992

Why Renee Graner, Pinon Real Estate Group BV chose South Central

This is a beautiful home which offers all the comforts of your home including washer & dryer and dishwasher. It also has a beautiful rock fireplace. Waterfront property is a premium in Colorado and this house sits right on Cottonwood Creek. It couldn't be any more spectacular with Buffalo Peaks to the east, and the Collegiate Peaks Range to the west.

What makes this house unique

Since 1992, Bob and Joyce have opened up their log home to friends, family and many guests who share their love for beautiful mountain views, great fishing and relaxation that can only be found in the mountains. When you arrive at the Log Home and hear the gentle roar of Cottonwood Creek, see the trout jumping in the private fishing pond and stand in awe of the 14,000+ foot mountains that surround you, you can not help but feel the worries of the day-to-day life melt away.

One of our favorite “rituals” is to have breakfast/coffee out on the deck overlooking the creek and fishing pond in the morning to talk about what everyone wants to do that day. After a fun filled day of activity (fishing, shopping, rafting, skiing, reading, etc) or non-activity (naps and/or sunbathing on the deck) we reconvene for wine and cheese on the balcony to discuss who is cooking dinner or what great local restaurant we are heading off to. Yep…that is our basic routine. You should try it…it is an easy lifestyle to get used to.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The proof of the pudding is that we have stayed at the Log House for nine consecutive years! Everything we want or need is here or in BV. What better place for coffee in the morning and drinks in the evening on the deck overlooking the beautiful pond and creek? The deck is also ideal for observing wildlife in the meadow across the creek. Every year, without fail, the owners go out of their way to accommodate us. They always make our stay most pleasant.

Enjoying the beautiful outdoors

VRBO Bear stayed here

Oct 29, 2007

If you are looking for a relaxing, enjoyable, fun filled vacation, then look no further. You have found the perfect vacation. We had everything we needed at this gorgeous property in beautiful Buena Vista, Colorado. We had such a good time, we didn’t want to leave. We felt so welcome in the house - as soon as we stepped through the doors, we already felt at home. It was so nice going on vacation but having so many comforts of home. The mountain décor was beautiful and made it truly feel like a cabin in the mountains. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook each meal, and we enjoyed eating at the big table in the dining room. It was so nice watching TV on the big screen. Our favorite activity was being outside and enjoying the incredible views from the large deck while listening to the stream below. The bear cubs especially enjoyed going down to the pond and watching the fish jump. To bad we didn’t bring our fishing poles! If you don’t feel like staying indoors, there is so much to do in Buena Vista. There’s snowmobiling in the winter, whitewater rafting, fishing, horseback riding, hunting, and swimming at the hot springs, just to mention a few. There are also some great restaurants to eat at if you don’t feel like cooking. It was so nice to read everyone’s nice comments about their previous stays. One guest had this to say, “The sound of water running over rocks and stones, horses grazing in the green pastures, aspen tree leaves rustling in the breeze… Memories are made of this.” And I agree. Surrounded by Beauty

We absolutely loved the Brock Haus! You are completely surrounded by 14ers! Our family of four (kids aged 14 & 12) hiked the nearby 14ers then came back to the house and enjoyed fishing in the stream or sitting on the huge back porch enjoying the beautiful views and wildlife. One of the highlights of the week was horseback riding, which was close by. We also really enjoyed driving up to Cottonwood Pass and to Twin Lakes. The house was perfect! If we have the opportunity to visit Buena Vista again we would definitely want to stay at the Brock Haus.

The house was fine, minus a few exceptions

  • 3 of 5

The house was nice. There was some problems. According to the lady managing the property the previous occupants were long stay. They cleaned the property themselves. It was in all appearances clean. The regrigerator had a leak inside putting condensate inside the fridge.

We arrived and used the hall bath, no toilet paper. Went to the master bath, a few strands of toilet paper. None was found in storage. My wife texted and told the caretaker, she was in Salida, she said she would bring toilet paper the next day. We went to town and bought some toilet paper. The next day she left 4 rolls for five people for 7 days, what a wonderful gesture. We found the bags for the trash the day we left, hidden under other stuff. We previously had bought bags. The grill would not work, we unfroze the rust and lifted the grill to add fuel after an hours work. I found a tick in the master BR bed, just one. The bedspread smelled of dog or some other odor. Ticks happen, I know. The fishing on the private pond was terrible, stocking could be an option. It is a very nice property, but improvements could be made.

Owner's Response: We appreciate your positive comment that this is a very nice property because the owners of this house have gone above and beyond to provide a wonderful vacation experience for their guests by providing a neat, clean cabin, with a fabulous deck overlooking Cottonwood Creek and the stocked fishing pond. They have provided all the essentials and even some non-essentials in the cabin with the intent that each guest will feel welcome, create wonderful memories, and hopefully return once again in the future. Unfortunately, your whole vacation experience seems to have been marred by the oversight of toilet paper in the rental. It is true, I was not in town when you called to complain, however, I did call our housekeeper and also a friend to see if either one could deliver toilet paper. Unfortunately, they too were both unavailable. Totally my oversight because I inspected the cabin after the long-term guest brought in her own housekeeping staff to deep clean the bedding, linens, and to dust and vacuum. I was there again the day before you arrived to oversee the professional carpet cleaner and again the day of your arrival to make sure the furniture was returned. One would have thought that I would have noticed that each bathroom didn’t have the standard 2 rolls per bathroom, (which is all we do provide as guests are expected to provide their own consumables beyond what is provided in the house when they arrive). It was also my oversight that trash bags were not left in plain sight and in the future I will double and triple check these issues so this doesn’t happen again. As far as the tick issue, I’ve not had any encounters with them since living in Buena Vista for the last 17 years, however, I do know that a good spot to pick them up is in the trees and tall grass, much like you would see near the fishing pond. Speaking of which, we don’t guarantee that anyone will catch one of the Rainbow Trout or Brown Trout that are stocked in the pond. It is purported that some of them are up to 24” in length. I suppose it would depend upon what time of day you were fishing, as well as the type of bait and tackle. Those fish can sometimes be finicky. Again, I do apologize for the missing toilet paper.

Baby Boomer Birthday Blast

  • 5 of 5

Five of my best "girlfriends" and I celebrated my 60th birthday Sept. 16-20, 2009 in this beautiful log home in Buena Vista, CO. The weather was gorgeous, the stream behind the property was gurgling, and the aspens were peaked. The first day there was designated "Buena Vista Day" and we all piled into one van and went to town. We probably went into every shop before stopping to have lunch at Mother's. Dinner was at Mt. Princeton Hotel followed by the coolest thing of all--sitting in the hot springs at night. Later, back at the log home, we had a fire in the fireplace and played games at a nice, big table in the great room. Day II was "Aspen & Leadville Day" and Day III was Oktoberfest in Breckenridge. There is no chance of running out of things to do, because even if you lack imagination, you can sit in a rocking chair on the huge deck and just gaze at the 14,000-foot mountain peaks or go for a walk along Cottonwood Creek.

My friends and I loved the house, loved the entire area, and we'd go back in a heartbeat. Everything we planned went off without a hitch and there were no disappointments. A couple weeks before we arrived, there had been a rare sighting of a bear, so we were on the lookout for him. Fortunately, we didn't see him, but we saw plenty of deer lying on the lawns of the homes in town every evening around dinner time and a big moose prancing in a field on the side of the road on our way back from Breckenridge.

When it was time for me to blow out the candles on my birthday cake, I only had one wish to make....I wished that I could do this all over again next year.

Wonderful Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have been vacationing at the Log Home for over five years. The owners have gone the extra mile to make their home a renter’s delight. So much attention has been given to this beautiful vacation home both on the inside and outside that photos nor words would do it justice. You must come here to see it for yourself.

This is the place to go if you are looking for a unique family vacation. The mountain views, the babbling creek, the outstanding amenities and excellent customer service will keep my family returning for many years in the future.
