About Phil Chavanne
My family purchased Selah Springs Ranch in 1995 and I have been in love with it ever since. Other than writing fiction this place is my only true hobby. We have spent the last 20 years improving the property with cabins and new facilities, as well as extensive conservation efforts, restoring native grasses and habitat, removing hundreds of invasive tree species and replanting hundreds more native oaks across the ranch. My father passed away in 2010 and left my wife and I with the task of turning the ranch into a family business. Our love for the land and for people encouraged the direction the ranch has taken. My wife and I simply love hosting families and providing them with an atmosphere of genuine hospitality. We want everyone to love our Texas playground as much as we do.

An overwhelming getaway.
I don’t know that there’s much of anything they could do to make this place any better. The other reviews say it all. When you rent this property you’re renting an entire ranch. A top of the line place. There’s so much to do you won’t see the whole place in one trip. I dare you to try.
Thanks for the feedback. We really appreciate it!
An old fashioned Texas Hill Country Reunion
Our family is spread out across the country and only gets together every 2 years but this year we traveled to the Texas Hill Country to stay at Selah Springs Ranch and we had a wonderful vacation. The river was flowing very well and everything was immaculate. The facilities are perfect for a reunion. The ranch is full of surprises. Around every corner is a canyon or a pond or a herd of horses running and I couldn't make a list of all the fun things are kids got up to. An old fashioned american reunion. Could not have gone better. thx
Thanks for the review. Glad you got a chance to explore the place and discover all of the surprises.
I'd love to give a shout out to Andrea and Phil for making our stay spectacular. You were so accommodating and went above and beyond in so many ways. The place is perfect - the people were beyond hospitable. We were blessed!
We were honored to serve you guys. Come back anytime!
A really nice time
If you like the country then this is a neat place. Our family had a reunion here and everything was set up as advertised and we certainly had everything we needed. I didn't like that the fishing was only catch and release but oh well. The river was still beautiful.
Thanks for the review. We appreciate it!
They rolled out the red carpet for our huge family!
Everyone can see how splendid this place is just by the pictures. That's why we came and there's no debating the natural beauty. But here's what you can't see: when three of my children jumped up and down on their bed at 11pm one of the mattress supports was broken. Completely their fault. I was upset with the kids so we texted the manager to apologize. And within 7 minutes of the text (I paid attention to the clock) the ranch handyman showed up with a new bed support freshly cut in his workshop. He installed it immediately and the kids went straight to sleep. As far as I was concerned if my kids were going to break the bed they could sleep on the floor. During our stay the staff took time to teach one of my children how to saddle a horse and another how to play chess. On the hayride they taught us about the native american and natural history of the land, took us on a cave tour, talked about water conservation. They brought us fresh vegetables from their garden. I was immersed in Texas. We've been to some beautiful places - but never have we been greeted with such warm, authentic hospitality.
Thanks for making our staff feel so appreciated with this review. It meant a great deal to them. We enjoyed being with your family and would love to have you back again!
Ranch. Resort. Paradise.
I'm a discerning traveler and they've thought of everything at this place. I've never actually been to a place where you have some much land and freedom and luxury. There is no other neighbor on the horizon - you can roam and feel like the only people on the planet. I loved it and was restored by my time there. Our family of 40 had a wonderful time together and tried so many new things like hayrides, skeet shooting and fly fishing. We got so much more than we paid for. I couldn't improve upon it of I tried.
Thank you for those words. More than we deserve!
The ranch is located 9 miles from the town of Brady where guests have access to groceries, gas, and shopping/tourist attractions. Guests can also head south to the charming towns of mason (15 minutes away) and Fredericksburg (50 minutes away) where there are countless Hill countries treasures to explore. Some day trip favorites are: Kayaking the llano river, exploring the shops in Fredericksburg, visiting Luckenbach, seeing the Eckert Bat Cave or hiking up Enchanted Rock
If you are flying in the Airports in San Antonio and Austin are both just over 2 hours from here and San Angelo is 1:15 minutes.
