Elk Hollow Get-Away, Mountain Views, Close to Nat'l Forest, 7th Night Free,

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 5 nights

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Elk Hollow Getaway is a comfortably decorated, two bedroom, two bath cabin with spacious covered decks surrounded by tall pines and has all the comforts of home, including wifi and expanded satellite TV for those football games you fellows like to watch. Elk Hollow is located only a few miles from Cloudcroft, and sits on several lots allowing you room to enjoy the sunshine and private wooded location. We call our cabin Elk Hollow, because at dawn and dusk the elk will stroll down the hollow beside and below the cabin. Sometimes you will see herds of 25-30 elk around the cabin..

In the great room, the ledge-rock gas fireplace will warm you during chilly evenings. The well-equipped kitchen has everything you need including instant hot water. Use the gas barbecue grill on the deck while enjoying a spectacular view of the Sacramento Mountains. There is a pond just down the road from the cabin where you can feed the many fish. There is also a nice hiking trail through the Lincoln National Park just beyond the pond.

The bedrooms at Elk Hollow are very nicely decorated, have ceiling fans and both have nice views. Both bathrooms have heaters in addition to central gas heating.

Elk Hollow is located in a private community where the roads are maintained year round. The community has no really steep hills, so driving and walking is a pleasure. It is advisable, however, to use a four-wheel drive vehicle or chains during winter months.

There is abundant wildlife in the area. You may see elk, whitetail and mule deer, bears, raccoons, chipmunks, rabbits, turkeys, and a huge variety of birds. Several varieties of hummingbirds make their home in the Southern Rocky Mountains from April through Mid-September.

Just minutes away from our cabin is the Cloudcroft Lodge and Golf Course, four Village Tennis Courts, Ski Cloudcroft, the Village Ice Skating Rink, Zenith park where you can picnic and BBQ. There is also a playground, shopping, the Cloudcroft Museum, bakery, winery, and restaurants. Browsing the quaint shops in the village is a must.

One stay at Elk Hollow will bring you back. The combination of stylish country decor, refreshing crisp mountain air added to the fabulous Sacramento Mountain view, makes this one of Cloudcroft's best rental cabins. Come see for yourself why Elk Hollow is the perfect solution to your mountain get-a-way no matter what the occasion.

We provide snow discs for your use on our hillside, or you may take them to Ski Cloudcroft ( 3 miles away) to use on their tubing hill, or they can be used on the sand dunes at White Sands National Park.

About Jeri-Lynn & Bill Sandusky

My husband, Bill, retired from the Air Force with 26 years of service and I had a career as a Realtor specializing in corporate and military relocation. We've lived all over the USA including Washington, DC, MD, PA, SC, FL, CO, UT, TX, NV, and overseas in Japan and Korea.

Jeri-Lynn & Bill Sandusky purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Jeri-Lynn & Bill Sandusky chose New Mexico

We fell in love with Cloudcroft after visiting friends there in 2003. We enjoyed living in the mountains previously, so we decided to build a second home in Cloudcroft once we found the perfect location.

At Elk Hollow we provide everything you need to make your vacation a wonderful experience. We want all of our guests to feel as though Elk Hollow is their own little piece of heaven.

What makes this cabin unique

Well, you just can't beat the view from Elk Hollow! Mountain views and woodland views from all rooms, and Elk Hollow has a large, fully covered wrap-around deck and gas BBQ for your enjoyment. We also have Wi-Fi and 3 TV's and 2 DVD players. We furnish all condiments, herbs, spices, coffee and even birdseed. If you're visiting for the wildlife, then we've got it. It is not uncommon to see herds of elk in our yard and throughout the neighborhood. We have a large pond down the road where you can feed the many fish, and just across the pond is a hiking trail through the Lincoln National Forest. We furnish sand/snow discs for winter use, or they can be used to sled down the sand dunes at White Sands National Monument in Alamogordo. An amazing stay in the mountains of Cloudcroft, NM

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mr. and Mrs. Sandusky's cabin in Cloudcroft, NM. We wished we had booked more nights to enjoy the peacefulness of the area and fresh crisp mountain air. The cabin was well stocked with all the amenities and very nicely furnished. This has been the best VRBO that we have stayed thus far.

The beds were very comfortable and and the cabin was very clean and well organized. We appreciate the extra supplies in the cabin for cooking/washing clothes/feeding the birds.

Such beautiful morning when you can enjoy your coffee and watch elk walk up the mountains right next to the cabin and listen to turkeys gobble in the background.

Thank you again for letting us stay at your wonderful cabin in the mountains. We had an amazing time filled with lots of memories :)

Great Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We recently had a chance for a quick family getaway and booked Elk Hollow, and were thoroughly impressed with the home. The house was well furnished and in a great location with excellent views. The wrap around deck with gates was an extra sense of safety as we have small children. We were lucky enough to get a good amount of snow for the kids to sled and build snowmen. The owners were fantastic and provided us with a all the information you could ever need about the surrounding area. Due to the snow however, we just hunkered down and enjoyed the property for the short time we had. We had a great time and hope to go back very soon.

Absolutely LOVED this cabin!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Elk Hollow this past weekend and to say we enjoyed ourselves would be putting it lightly! We had the BEST time ever, we have never seen so much snow. The cabin was supplied with some necessities which was very helpful and the views..... THE VIEWS ARE BREATH TAKING.... we lucked out and stayed during a snow storm and got 6+ inches of snow and it was a dream come true for us!!! If you are planning a trip to Cloudcroft I would highly recommend you stay at Elk Hollow!!! My 4 year old son was as amazed as us adults at the beauty of this cabin and this town!! We can't wait to go back!!

Thank you for allowing us to celebrate our 58th wedding anniversary in your lovely cabin. Everything was so clean and well organized that we were able to completely relax and enjoy ourselves to the max. We enjoyed the daily wildlife viewing, deer, elk and turkey. I hope we can return in Jan or Feb to enjoy the snow.

Our stay was absolutely wonderfully amazing!!!! Thank you for your attention to detail which made our stay even more enjoyable. When we arrived and opened the door we were greeted with an amazingly clean and tidy cabin that was completely stocked with anything that we could possibly need. The kitchen was furnished with all the items that made meal preparation a snap. The panty was stocked with many food items; coffee, sugar and spices were all available for our use. The cabin is furnished with quality linens; toiletries were provided and the beds were very comfortable. The cabin is decorated and furnished with style, the furniture in the living room is very comfortable and offers a nice place to relax as you watch TV or enjoy a fire in the beautiful fireplace. The patio provided much entertainment for us, we feed the birds (bird seed provided), we enjoyed seeing the elk graze in the meadow across from the cabin. A 12-point buck and his harem of 25 or more would come down beside the cabin just after dusk and graze for 30 minutes or so before moving on. We saw deer several evenings as well. We even had a gray fox visit one evening. Enjoying my coffee on the patio in the mornings was one of my favorite things to do. Cloudcroft provides a nice relaxing peaceful vacation spot away from the touristy Ruidoso area but close enough to tourist attraction if that is what you desire. We meet some wonderful people at the Mountain of the Lord Fellowship church, we were truly blessed attending service there. We had a fantastic time and enjoyed our stay so very much. We definitely recommend this fantastic vacation spot; the place is amazing and the owners are super great people!! Thank you allowing us the opportunity to stay in your amazing cabin; we are looking forward to a return stay.

Amazing Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for 5 days to celebrate our 35th Anniversary. We initially chose it from many options because it looked remote and welcoming. When we first arrived and walked in the front door we were amazed how beautiful it was! Although they're nice, the pictures just don't do it justice. It was also very sweet that there was a chocolate fruit gift bag congratulating us on our Anniversary.

The cabin had every single thing we needed to feel like home. Enough so that we ended up eating most of our meals there. Not only is the cabin beautifully furnished, but the covered patio has a patio table and very comfy furniture with an amazing view of the mountains. There's also a huge bird feeder (seed is furnished) and we spent countless hours watching the huge variety feeding and trying to identify them from the book they have there.

Cloud croft is a quaint, fun town to visit and the shops were very friendly. The winery there has fresh roasted pistachios, gourmet cheeses, freshly made olive oils, and different flavors of balsamic vinegars and seasonings. One day we loaded up on that, bought a fresh loaf of sourdough bread from the bakery next door (which also rents 4-wheelers), and had a delightful snack.

The highlight of our stay was one evening a herd of elk surrounded the cabin as they lazily grazed their way down the mountain. There were 15-20 of them and we were in awe just quietly sitting feet away from them for almost an hour watching them. Then one of them started bugling (which we had never seen before) and they all responded and walked away.....

The last two days of our stay unexpected cold and rainy weather moved in and we enjoyed the beautiful fireplace and coziness of the cabin. We took a day trip to Ruidosa to sightsee and it was so crowded and commercialized that we grabbed a Starbucks and headed back to the tranquility of Cloudcroft.

From the moment we first booked the cabin Jerilynn had very detailed instructions which we appreciated. We also loved how all of the light switches were labeled so there was no guessing where to turn something on. We loved out stay there!
