Cedar Key is "Real Florida". With natural waterways, great seafood, no high rises, no traffic jams-except when the locals stop in the street to exchange news and greetings-we invite you to join us for a weekend, week or month. Come for the kayaking, canoeing, nature walks and birdwatching. Ride a golf cart, a bicycle, or walk anywhere in Cedar Key, we are "slower paced" friendly.
Boat rentals, bike rentals, golf cart rentals and guided boat tours are available in Cedar Key. Please visit the Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce for a directory of local businesses and services.
The Cedar Key Historical Society has a museum and a walking tour, and the St. Clair Whitman Museum is operated by the State of Florida. The Lower Suwannee Wildlife Refuge is a scant 15 miles, with hiking, fishing, and a "drive by car" tour. Cedar Key State Preserve, 6 miles east of Cedar Key, on SR 24, offers bicycling, nature and horse trails and picnicking.
Like to fish? Cedar Key's waters are abundant in redfish, trout, whiting, grouper, cobia, both king and Spanish mackerel, shark and an occasional tarpon. Fish off your dock, a public pier, or hire a guide, you'll remember why you took a vacation.
Kayaking and canoeing are THE ways to see Cedar Key. There are kayak rentals available at City Park, only 500 feet from YOUR front door, or the operators will deliver to you. Check out the paddle boards and water bikes, now available on Dock Street, just a short walk from YOUR place on Florida's NATURE COAST.
Want to bicycle or golf cart while you are here? Golf cart rentals are just across from City Park, on 2nd Street, and just across from the Cedar Cove pool. Electric bicycles are located on Dock Street, and "regular" bicycles are available with only a phone call. Planning on coming on a busy weekend? We will be happy to help you reserve in advance.
Park your car, turn off your phone, come enjoy the REAL Florida with panoramic views, east to west, perched high above the Gulf waters. No, you can't fly, but don't tell the ospreys, egrets, herons and eagles just outside your windows.
While we don't have the sandy white beaches and blue waters most envision when dreaming of Florida, we do have the NATURAL beauty of a vibrant waterfront, with bird life, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, aquatic animals, and REAL seafood, produced and harvested locally! Come for the beauty, enjoy a REAL seafood dinner, stay for the "aaaahhhh" moments.
I work out of town-a LOT!. When I am home, I want to be where time and people remind me of a slower paced, friendlier time and life and Cedar Key does JUST that. It is a community, a place to enjoy the luxuries of living in the United States. This is where I will retire.
Jennie Pinto purchased this condo in 2001
Cedar Key is the Gem of the Nature Coast, with unspoiled waterways, small town charm, abundant bird life, pet friendly and golf cart friendly streets, most of the convenience of a larger town, but with all the charms of small town living.
We are directly waterfront, a small island in the middle of Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge, comprised of 13 islands.
Jennie was very easy to work with, responding to all my questions timely, and even meeting us at the property upon our arrival.
Having travelled to many beach locations, Cedar Key is very unique. In the property you are literally surrounded by water on all sides. It's the closest I've ever been to the water in a rental. You can walk into town and get dinner, drinks, ice cream. It is not a tourist town, stuff does not stay open late, and there isn't any cheesy putt-putt, go carts, or resturant chains. Everything is very fresh and very local. The water is similar to being on a bay or sound, except the depth changes with hi and low tide. If you want the blue water known in the gulf, then you are better to stay in destin or clear water and south. If you are into wildlife, fishing, old Florida, then cedar key is for you. We loved it!
The house... It's nothing super fancy, but very suitable for a vacationing family. There are a lot of stairs, so you should be aware of that. The king beds were nice and large and the kids slept comfortably in the bunk beds. The washer and dryer were perfect. We also prepared all meals in the kitchen, and put together many of the puzzles. The only complaint we have is that the carpet is in dire need of a thorough cleaning. Otherwise, pictures accurately represent the rental.
We highly recommend planning a fishing charter, renting a golf cart and spending a few meals in town during your stay. Steamers is yummy and Tony's clam chowder is a must. Also the homemade ice cream is tasty.
We did not keep our reservation. The ad is misleading. It says the property is directly on the beach. They left out the small details! This is not a ocean (beach) property. This is a man-made beach and there is not an ocean. This is mainly a fishing village. I did not find out the details until the day before my departure. I had been in contact with the manager on several occasions and this was not mentioned. I had to find last minute accommodations and had to pay higher costs. I did not receive any of my money back and feel that travelers should be skeptical before renting any properties
This could not have been a more ideal situation. Walking distance to downtown, beaches and restaurants. The view was amazing. The realtor was very nice and accomodating. We loved the history of the town, and being able to kayak with the dolphins that live off the coast of cedar key.
This is THE place to spend your time in Cedar Key. Only blocks to ALL the activities of Cedar Key, yet just far enough for you to enjoy the solitude and the sounds of stepping back to nature, the rise and fall of the tides and the sounds of only birds calling to you.
