About Yvonne Drake

My family moved to the Naples when I was10 years old and I have been here ever since then. I went to school in Naples, got married and raised my children here. I have lived in this house for 50 years. I am now retired and have this big house so rather than downsizing, I decided to open the apartment up to travelers and vacationers. I thought that would be more interesting than just renting it out as a regular rental unit.

I am a "homebody" by heart and enjoy my yard and gardens, refinishing furniture, reading, crocheting and sewing. I spend a lot of time with my granddaughter, next door, teaching her some of these crafts.

I am a "people person" and so I do volunteer work at the local historical society and library. This gets me out of the house and spend time with friends and neighbors.

Touring antique shops is also one of my favorite things to do. I have several collections that I can add to when I stumble across a great find. My biggest collections are of tea pots, thimbles and old umbrellas.

Yvonne Drake purchased this apartment in 1965

Why Yvonne Drake chose Prattsburgh

I love old houses with a history and this house has been in the family for three generations. At one time it was a turkey farm, famous for it's White Holland Turkeys. The original part of this house is said to be about 200 years old. It is one of those old farm houses that has had many additions over the years, that makes it so unique. We moved her when my children were very small, as a temporary home, while we planned to build a new home. Well, I just fell in love with this old place and never wanted to leave. It sure did need a lot of fixing and took many years, but it was worth it.

After my children were grown, I had a portion of the house divided for the apartment, where my Mother lived for 16 years. She so enjoyed the peaceful quiet and privacy of the apartment that I am sure you will as well.

What makes this apartment unique

I keep mentioning how peaceful and private it is here, that you may wonder about that as you drive up and see that we are located on a state highway. However, that just makes it more convenient as you travel to and from town! Yes, we do have some traffic, but once you enter the apartment, or enjoy the back yard, you do not hear any of that.

The view from the large living room window is like looking at a painting of trees along a creek bank. The creek runs along the apartment side of the house, so when you open the windows you can listen to your own water feature.

The view from the bedroom window overlooks the back yard and flower gardens and the woods beyond. You are welcome to enjoy a stroll along the path that runs through my woods. I sometimes take a sandwich and a book and stay awhile. You can always find a good log or stone wall to sit on and enjoy the quiet.

After a busy day of doing the touristy things, you are welcome to lounge on the back deck and watch the birds as they settle in for the evening. Or you may want to set around the fire pit and relax with a nightcap.

Perfect, perfect stay

  • 5 of 5

I stay in a lot of vacation rentals and Yvonne's place now tops my list as my very favorite. She is an exceptionally warm and thoughtful host and her property is everything I look for: spotless, comfortable, extremely private, peaceful, and well-appointed. There was nothing I needed that Yvonne hadn't already made available. I was driving back and forth between Naples and Arkport and she offered great suggestions on alternate routes as well as the local hot spots to eat, the best farm stands, etc. I grew up in the Hornell area, so driving the back roads was fun and nostalgic ..... and BEAUTIFUL. Naples is a lovely place and, for a peaceful getaway - I don't see how you could do better than this lovely property. I will absolutely be back!

Spotless, comfortable apartment

  • 5 of 5

Yvonne has thought of everything a traveler might need in this guest suite. It’s clean, homey, and spacious. It’s rural and green outside, with a private deck and BBQ. She’s a gracious hostess, even though we came in late. She told us her 12 year old granddaughter helps her clean and is learning what to do when she takes over eventually. Everything is shipshape! They’re both doing a great job! We loved the little treat of the local specialty-grape pie!

Country Apartment in a Picturesque Town

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just spent a week at this spacious and comfortable apartment. Yvonne couldn’t have been nicer or more attentive to our needs. Very close to Naples which is a great little town with good restaurants and a terrific live theater. Yvonne”s place is stocked with literature on all area attractions. There are wineries and pottery studios close enough to see in a day. Watkins Glen Gorge Trail is a must see as is the Corning Museum. It was truly a delightful visit!

A quiet, cute, cozy apartment in the country. The hostess was very friendly and welcoming.

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I traveled to the finger lakes and were very pleased with our stay. The apartment is attached to the house but it is very quiet. It has a full kitchen with a kitchen table and chairs in the dining room/livingroom. Although there were utensils and tableware there we chose to go in to town and try out eating places there. It was a short 7-10 min drive to the closest small town. There was a dollar store so we were able to grab a few necessities impromptu.

The hostess was wonderful. Very attentive to our needs without being obtrusive. She made sure we felt welcome and answered any questions we had about our stay and the local area. She invited us to let her know if any questions or needs arose.

The home was clean, bed was comfortable, the couch is big enough for an adult to sleep on it. I was concerned about the lack of air conditioning but no worries. The ceiling fan and fans keep it very comfortable and if window fans are put in place overnight it can get very cool by morning.

There is a small backyard haven with a backdrop of trees and creek. Nice place to relax and read a book. There is a fire ring should one want to toast marshmallows or hot dogs.

In other reviews I read about the delightful grape pie. We were not disappointed. Our dear hostess left one in the refrigerator and we savored every bite.

If I am ever in the area I will likely stay here again if available. I cannot emphasize enough how warm and helpful the hostess was!
