2 bedroom, 2 baths, canine friendly home located in historic Alma
About Jan McCabe
My husband, Mark, and I are transplants from Kansas City, Mo. I grew up in Kansas City and Mark moved to KC from Buffalo, NY. We moved here permanently after completing the remodel of our house, which took 5 1/2 years! Mark and I are both retired, me from the financial services industry and Mark from photography. We love to hike and go camping with our dog Murphy! In the summer I work for the Mosquito Range Heritage Initiative, leading their Rare Alpine Plant project. I also like to quilt and Mark is a project guy! In fact, Mark built our little house in Alma with some help along the way! We hope that you enjoy your stay!
Why Jan McCabe chose Alma
We have always loved Colorado and through the years came skiing and camping with our kids. Then in 2006 life long friends bought a house in Fairplay. When we came to visit, we fell in love with Park County. We bought our home sight unseen in 2007, thinking we would do a fix and flip. When we saw the views, we knew this was the place for us. We moved into our home 5 1/2 yrs later and have no plans to leave any time soon. Park County has so much to offer and the people of Alma and Fairplay are so friendly, we can't think of a better place to live. In 2014, we bought a house in Alma (37 S Oak) thinking we would do a remodel and rent it. However, once we got into it, we realized there was no saving it; so down it came. We had plans drawn up and started from scratch.

Such a gem!
This adorable little cabin was absolutely perfect for our stay in Alma! Beautiful and modern, and quite comfortable. Would certainly stay here again, and hope to! Great overall experience!
Staying at Altitude
To prepare for the Leadville 100 Trail Run. Spent over 2 weeks here living above 10k and training on the local 14'ers. This house was perfect, clean , had everything I needed. Owners were attentive. Lost the internet for a few days (mountain living) the owners and even the RIS Internet provider worked hard at getting it back up and running . I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this property.
Better than expected accommodations.
The interior feels new and like it has been recently updated. Internet (including smart TV) worked really well. Parking is easy, although I wasn't sure whether to park in back, front, or on the side (don't park on the side, as that is the neighbor's drive).
The neighbors are pretty close on both sides, and if you are looking for beautiful solitary views of the mountains, you'll be disappointed. However, I was just looking for a pleasant place to sleep - and this, in my opinion, is a far, far better value than the area's closest motels.
Beautiful two bedroom home in such a cute town! Very clean, everything you need to cook, awesome trails behind the house and gorgeous morning views from the patio. This place is perfect!
The town is small but has all the essentials and the views are amazing! If you’re looking for a place close to Breckenridge that’s not outrageously expensive but equally as beautiful, this is your place!
Beat the Denver summer heat
We had a great stay here this summer. It is the cutest cabin with all modern conveniences and style inside. Very cozy and clean. This is a great location for easy access to activities in South Park, Buena Vista, and Breckenridge. We will definitely be back!
South Park City, a historic town from the 1800's is located in Fairplay just 6 miles away. A fun place for kids of all ages! For those that want to tackle a 14'ner, Mount Democrat is practically out the back door! For the really ambitious, you can make it a trifecta with Bross & Lincoln. The quaint town of Breckenridge is a short drive of 15 miles north of Alma. Browse the shops, ski or mountain bike depending on the season.
